In April of 2024, my wife and I had Oldcastle slate pavers installed in our driveway, having previously installed the same pavers in our front yard and different colored pavers in our backyard. We've always preferred the cobblestone look to Oldcastle Pavers, but every installer we interviewed (four in total) insisted that we would need to use both thin and thick pavers. They assured us that the pavers would be the same color, so we didn't worry. However, we discovered that Oldcastle produces pavers of vastly different colors. The thin and thick pavers were not just slightly different; they were as different as pink and red. Oldcastle acknowledged the problem and eventually delivered new pavers. While some of these were slightly darker, the majority were not. The Oldcastle representative said he had done all he could and recommended installing thick pavers, which would cost the installer substantially more. The installer tried to work with Oldcastle, who offered $1,000 in credit, although the project would cost him $2,500 in materials and labor. Meanwhile, I have been placed in the middle of this feud. I believe Oldcastle bears responsibility for manufacturing such radically different pavers, even though they are supposed to be the same color. I want the company to work with our installer so this project, which I've already spent well over $9,000 on, doesn't cost me more money.
