TOTAL AND COMPLETE SCAM!!!!! My husband got sick back in 2020 and thought that this would be a good way to help with the finances since he was unable to work. I have been paying SLATE $1444 a month since March of 2020. I have had ONE debt resolved since then. They are now telling me that on top of the $1444, that I will have to pay an additional $800 for 20 extra months to resolve another debt. WTF???? We were supposed to be done with the program in June 2024****debt free!!!! Nope, not with this scam of a company. My husband has since passed March of this year. I received a life insurance payout and reached out to SLATE to pay off all debt in cash right now. Guess what****.. they won't let me do it!!!! They have come up with every excuse in the book to not accept my money. What is wrong with these people? How are they able to take advantage and steal peoples money like this?? I am so upset and do not know how I can get out of the mess I'm tied up in with them. Has anybody been successful in this program? Is there a way to get out of it? I literally have cash in hand to pay my debts off and can't even do that because "they aren't aloud to talk to me directly". This is a shame that this company is still in business. Oh, and you got one star because I couldn't post this without a rating. Well, my rating is a big fat ZERO****Review from Kathy C.

My husband and I began the program in February 2021 and have paid them $18,500.00. They have negotiated current payment plans on some of our debts, but they only follow up with our creditors when we receive a notice a summons from the court and send them the paperwork. By the time late fees and interest increase over time, the debt ends up being so much higher than when we initially enrolled in the program. Therefore the settlement offers after negotiations are very poor in my opinion. When we got behind, we should of negotiated directly with our creditors. Most of our payments have gone to their initial fees. It is like we paid them to make our situation more stressful than it already was! Back in December of 2022 they attempted to negotiate a debt for about $200 more than the original balance and wanted us to deposit $300 that day. It was two days before Christmas and we didnt want to send them anymore money than we already have.so we said we need more time. We have not heard from then since and we call every week. The attorney assigned to the case has been of no help either. He does not reply to emails in a timely manner at all. My husband was very ill and we got behind on bills and now there seems no light at the end of the tunnel. I sincerely hope the BBB can help us with this company. If nothing can be done to help us at this point, I am just hopeful the next person reads their horrible reviews before they commit. We are certainly not their only clients that have had a horrible experience.Review from Miranda H

The process & everything was easy. Getting the paper trail information is like pulling teeth. I exited the program Jan 19th 2023, so I can close on my house but I need the follow up letter, they said it would be 3-5 business days it is now Feb 4th and I'm still waiting and now can't close on my house... I have called 3 times since Jan 26th with a run around that I will get the information. They have jeopardize my percentage rate which is up as of Feb 6th.Review from Rosalio P

Funny how I miss a draft after I've called numerous times and 1 percent of my debit has been handled after 2yrs and now I'm getting garnished when you were suppost to help with my accounts.Got told that the person handing my accounts had been gone for months and he didn't work on them for 6mths. See it from my point of view. You people are garbage making people's lives worse rather than better im working 2 jobs as a single father with 2 children and asked for help and this is how you handle your firm. By putting people in worse predicaments then If would of just handled it myself but now it's so far gone that I'm at the mercy of whom ever can help me out. Paid yourself first before even taking a glance at my debit shame on you! Believe me I believe in karma and I hope your whole firm gets it 100x worse then what I'm going through. I know I'm nothing but a number to your firm and money is all you see and profit for yourselves and its all greed! I have to look at my children every night I know I created my debit and it was self infected but I maintained it till it got put in your hands One ****** off client **************************** Show quoted text This is what I wrote no response has been made!!Review from John M

I entered this program in August 2020 with 71K in debt, 7 different accounts. The monthly interest and fees on these accounts was around $1,400 a month, and this was compounding. Around a month after I signed up and all the creditors had been notified the interest, late fees, and high balance fees we stopped. This one act alone was enough to offset the cost of the entire program easily, and have money left over. First settlement came after 9 months. $17,900 personal loan settled for $7,200. Couple this with not paying any interest on this account for 9 months and its well over 10K in savings. I have added a little money extra here and there when I could, and was able to speed up the process, and also get better settlements. So here I am 21 months later, have 1 payment to go on one account next month, and another account that will be paid off in another 7 months, this settlement was made around 10 months ago. I will try and pay it off in the summer and complete the program in less than two years.I read these reviews and realize that most people do not understand the program, what the benefits and savings are, and that they need to be very involved in the program itself for it to work. I was involved, called 2-3 times a month to review and follow up, and everything worked out very well. I always got results when I called, they kept records, I had a few bumps along the way which I expected, but it all works! For those out there in debt, its hard in the beginning when you see the fees and no settlements the first 7-8 months. You have to realize that during this time you are saving a lot of money by the actions of Slate Legal. This for me was a two year process, my settlements were 38K in total so I saved around 33K there. Processed the 1099's with my tax returns, and this whole nightmare is pretty much over. I personally am thankful that after reading all the reviews after I joined the program, and becoming a total nervous wreak, I just stuck with it.Review from Vic G

Im not going to go through the whole story but I will say this , I am presently being sued by a large credit card company who are going to garnish my wages. In the meantime I have the money in the account that is set up with their partner. They had assigned a lawyer who did absolutely nothing in a timely fashion, then suddenly up and quit. So I called in with a wage garnishment paper a month ago and thats how I found out I had a different lawyer for this creditor. Which means I have a judgment against me because these people did not do what they were supposed to. So now Im looking at paying more with court costs than the debt was worth. Another thing which is quite interesting is every time you send something to them paper work or summonses, they say it takes 3 days for the litigation department to get to it , then when you call in to find out about said items they tell you they couldnt read them and you have to send them again, and when you ask when you can call to find out about whatever you sent they will say 5 -7 days, this happens every single time. These people are scam artists, a complete Fraud. I cant even believe they are rated by the BBB , which means they must have incredibly low standardsReview from Craig S

Please do not use this company! They take early 60% of your payment in fees, they will get you taken to court and they wont represent you, so if you dont realise this then you land up with judgements against you. Terrible customer service, never respond to calls, frequently lose documents you submit, I could go on. Please just get a proper attorney if youre in serious trouble or speak to your creditors yourself, I wish I had!Review from Rick C

They are currently representing me and they dropped the ball on providing a representative lawyer in court. They asked me for additional fees and I have paid over 12k into their pocket. They have yet to close a single case!!! Warning ??
