On 1/5/23, I went to Goldstein to have them assess a chipped tooth that I wanted to repair. Goldstein also found a miniscule chip in another tooth (tooth 7) that was not causing me any issues or concerns and offered to have them both done at the same time, suggesting that if left alone, the tooth would cause problems in the future. The office quoted me $500-$1850 and said my insurance covers "up to 80%" of those charges.On 1/11/23, the office quoted $1,850. I still had the understanding that my insurance company would pay up to 80%. I am expecting to pay $1,850 x 2 = $3,700, and then get at least 50% back from insurance. My total out of pocket is expected to be no more than $1,850. Goldstein's office charged me $4,241 that day. I was confused about the amount and why it was so high, but I was still under the impression that I would get money back once the claims were filed with the insurance company.My wife was concerned when I told her the amount of the charges, and she followed up with Goldstein's office. After already having work done on my teeth (AND paying), the office assistant replied "we may get some help with the filling on tooth #**, I do not expect any payment on the veneers." A month later, the insurance company sent an EOB. They covered 50% of one of the veneers but 0% of the other (for tooth 7) because it was unnecessary.Goldstein's office intentionally sold the idea that I needed to have both teeth fixed. They withheld information about costs until after I had received the dental work. They "fixed" a tooth that I hadn't even noticed a chip in, that apparently was completely unnecessary, in order to charge an extra $1,850 of which they knew I would not be reimbursed for. I am $4,241 out of pocket with a $985 refund. Insurance paid $1,073. I believe it would be in good faith if Goldstein Dental Center refunded me $1,850 for the tooth they operated on, knowing it was unnecessary and would cost me the full $1,850 without telling me up front.
