DOSH Holdings LLC tried to issue an unauthorized attempt to establish a payment account and/or charge to my card. This was a typical scam charge of $0.00 to establish link to an account. I have never heard nor have I had any dealings of any kind with this entity until this illegal action was perpetrated by them. This required cancelling my credit card, and changing every account that referenced that card a needlessly frustrating and time-consuming experience.Business Response

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out regarding this issue.
Dosh is a cash back app that allows users to link cards, and earn cash back on transactions at our partner merchants with those cards. Dosh authorizes a small / $0.00 charge to any linked cards to verify them. This is a pending charge that clears up in a few days. This is an authorization charge, and not impact your credit report in any way. We want to reassure you that we are not taking any funds from your account. ********************** does not charge or facilitate the charging of linked cards in any way. Other than the verification authorization charge you would not see any future charges from Dosh.
That being said, the only reason that a charge from Dosh is being seen is that someone is attempting to or has successfully linked your card to our system.
If you nor anyone else with access to the card may have done this, we recommend contacting your bank immediately and reviewing any transactions on your account. Your bank can help you determine if your card has been compromised and if there are any next actions you may need to take.
Although we're not able to look up an account by a card number because all of the card data is encrypted and we only see the last four digits when we access a user's account, if you would like to provide the last four digits of the card, issuing bank, type of card (MasterCard, ***** Amex) and the date of the authorization charge from Dosh, we can provide that to our Fraud team for further investigation.
Dosh uses bank-level, encryption security. Password, credit or debit card data and account information are NOT stored in the Dosh App or on our servers. When your bank account or credit card information is displayed the app only reveals the last four digits. Additionally, all purchase transactions made using Dosh are encrypted.
Dosh is fully PCI compliant - meaning we adhere to the ************************** Security Standard (PCI DSS). This is a set of security standards designed to ensure that all companies that accept, process, store, or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment.
Please note, the Dosh service will close permanently on 2/28/2025 and as such, all Dosh accounts will be terminated on 2/28/2025. Please refer to the Dosh Privacy Policy (*****************************************************) for complete information on data policies.
Our Terms of Service (*******************************************************) have been updated to reflect our app closure.
Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.Customer Answer

We searched our ticketing system and were not able to find a ticket submitted by ********************** regarding this issue.

The bank can help determine if the card has been compromised and if there are any next actions they may need to take, such as cancellation of the card and having a new card issued.
Someone may have purchased the card data, along with other stolen card information on the Dark Web, and are using Dosh to 'test' the card information by attempting to link the card to Dosh.

Because we don't store full account information, we have no way to search for a specific card. The only person(s) who has the full card information are the cardholder (and any authorized users), the card issuer, and whomever linked the card to the Dosh platform. Although we're not able to look up an account by a card number because all of the card data is encrypted and we only see the last four digits, if ********************** would like to provide the last four digits of the card, issuing bank, type of card (MasterCard, ***** Amex) and the date of the latest authorization charge from Dosh, we can provide that to our Fraud team for further investigation. Note: This will not prevent the person attempting to link the card from continuing to use the card as charges do not go through the Dosh platform.Initial Complaint

DOSH Holdings LLC placed a $0.00 charge on my credit card. Because this activity seemed unusual, my credit card company asked if I had authorized the charge. I answered "No," adding that I'd never heard of the firm. (This is the DOSH HOLDINGS LLC in ****** with a zip of *****. Their website says they're a subsidiary of Cardlytics. The site lists no phone number, just a fax.) My credit card company then terminated my credit card, pledging a replacement (with a new number) would be sent ASAP. I have no idea what this firm does, or how they got my credit card number. I understand that this firm does business in the Internet space--something to do with cash-back incentives on financial transactions. But I only learned this after they ran this transaction against my credit card. I want DOSH to tell me how they got my credit card number so I can prevent a similar event in the future.Business Response

Dosh is a cash back app that allows users to link cards, and earn cash back on transactions at our partner merchants with those cards. While we do not currently offer phone support, there is a support link on our website which allows you to submit a ticket to our support team for any issue.
Dosh authorizes a small / $0.00 charge to any linked cards to verify them. This is a pending charge that clears up in a few days. We are not taking any funds from accounts and Dosh does not charge or facilitate the charging of linked cards in any way. Other than the verification authorization charge you would not see any future charges from Dosh. That being said, the only reason that a charge from Dosh is being seen is that someone is attempting to or has successfully linked your card to our system. Someone may have purchased or otherwise obtained your card data, along with other stolen card information, and are using Dosh to 'test' the card information by attempting to link your card to Dosh.
We normally advise that if you nor anyone else with access to the card may have done this to contact your bank immediately and review any transactions on your account. We are glad to see that it appears that you've already taken this step and your bank is issuing a new card.
Although we're not able to look up an account by a card number because all of the card data is encrypted and we only see the last four digits when we access a user's account, if you are able to provide the last four digits of the card, issuing bank, type of card ****************** Amex) and the date of the authorization charge from Dosh, we can provide that to our Fraud team for further investigation. In most cases, if we are able to locate the account (we are not always able to do this - it will depend on how many cards are linked with the same last 4 digits on that date), the most we're able to do is lock the account - which prevents the user from using the mobile number again and from linking any of the cards again to another Dosh Account. Unfortunately, the people who abuse Dosh in this manner are very crafty with how they go about their 'trade' (for lack of a better term); using burner phones, false names and emails, and obscuring their location data.We do everything possible to prevent this type of behavior on our platform, and when it is discovered, we do take steps to remove bad actors from the platform. If we can answer any further questions, we're happy to do so. If you would like to submit a ticket to us directly, you can use this link: ******************************************************************** . In approx December of 2022, Dosh locked access to my account, where I had approx $60 in earnings stored. These earnings came from my accepting their solicited offers using their shopping app. On contacting them, they claimed that my purchases weren't valid, and so they locked me out of my account to keep me from claiming my earnings. {Note: the Dosh app uses data collected directly from credit card transactions, and so it is unambiguous as to whether the money was indeed spent on the offers-- the credit card company told them it had been spent.] I have not been able to access those funds since that time. Some time in 2023, Dosh unilaterally changed their terms of service to include an "account inactivity fee," to which they started deducting from my account monthly-- an account they would not allow me to access-- taking money away from me that I had earned, and that they would not allow me to create "activity" with which to suspend the "inactivity fee." They have since drained the approximately $60 they owe me down to zero. In August 2023, they began sending email solicitations to me (as though I could somehow participate in them-- I checked at that time and confirmed I was still unable to access my earnings). They have emailed me _34_ times with similar offer solicitations that I cannot redeem. I have contacted their customer service at their publicly advertised email address (one which they have previously answered my emails) _34_ times since then. They have NEVER responded. They state on their website that they DO NOT have phone access. So, they don't answer emails and don't take phone calls. I've done a little Internet research and found hundreds upon hundreds of others who indicate Dosh has done the same to them. Seems like a great gig-- solicit offers, but never pay out for them. I have copies of all _34_ emails I have sent them requesting my earned funds be released to me. No response. Their behavior here is inexcusable, and further damages their brand image.Business Response

We do not have a publicly advertised email address for support, rather we have a support portal where users can submit support requests. This portal is accessible via the Dosh website (screenshot included) or via the app. Our FAQ outlines how to contact Dosh via the app: ***************************************************************************************************************************; If emails were sent to ************************************************** an auto response was sent indicating that the user needed to submit a ticket in order to reach the support team.
I searched both emails associated with **************** account, and we have record of two support requests from ************ - one in March of 2020 regarding some issues with app functionality, and one in December of 2021, which was regarding his inability to transfer funds. Both email requests were responded to. The latter, regarding the transfer of funds was responded to within 1 day of receipt (received 12/27/21, response sent 12/28/21).
**************** account was suspended in 12/23/2021 due to a high volume of apparent Gift Card purchases. Per our Terms of Service (*******************************************************) Section 9, if we believe a user is purchasing gift cards at a volume or denomination that is intended to abuse the Services or that appears to be consistent with manufactured spending, Dosh retains the right to suspend and/or terminate the Account and remove any DOSH received as a result of the gift card abuse from the Account. In our response on 12/28/21, we relayed this information, in addition to citing the Office Depot offer at the time (this offer has since been ended) prohibited the use of the offer for gift cards and provided ************ with the opportunity to provide receipts if these purchases were not gift cards. We received no response. We have received no further communication from ************ until this BBB complaint.
In review of the account associated with the email noted in this complaint, it appears that there were no logins to the account after December 2021, as the account was considered dormant and subject to Inactive Account Maintenance Fees (Terms of Service Section 4), which begin 365 days after the last transaction / withdrawal. Fees can be avoided either by completing a qualifying transaction and earn cash back. This will reset the 12 month period by which we measure activity. If you've made a transaction, you're safe from fees for 365 days from your latest transaction. Alternately, the user can open the app at least once every 30 days. If the last transaction was over 365 days ago, the user can open the app at least once every 30 days until they have another cash back transaction. Opening the app must be done at least once every 30 days. Due to the account becoming inactive, the current balance has been reduced to $5.11.
The account activity and ratio of transactions in the account is as follows:
Total number of Gift Card Transactions: 275
Total number of Cash Back Transactions: 359
Current Percentage of Transactions that are Gift Cards: 76.60%
Normally, in order to un-suspend an account, the total number of gift card transactions must be below 60% of the total transactions. In this case ************ would need 107 non-gift card transactions to bring his account into compliance.
We are certainly willing to work with ************ to come to an acceptable resolution to this issue. Considering the number of gift card transactions, fees and overall activity, in lieu of bringing the account into 60% compliance, we are willing to refund $30.00 of inactivity fees and un-suspend the account.
If this is acceptable, please let us know and we'll get the credit to the account and un-suspension processed immediately.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:The wall of words provided by Dosh fail to address meaningful aspects of this issue, to include, but not limited to-- 1) why they spontaneously resumed soliciting me for business on an account they have suspended, which cannot be accessed. Left hand and right hand don't speak to one another before starting new spam marketing campaigns??; 2) how they can change their ToS to include financial penalties that I was not able to accept or opt out of (withdraw funds and close account) becausexthey had suspended my ability to do so. This is Legal 101 stuff. 3) that they can somehow discern the details of my purchases when they are not being provided L3 transaction data (per Chase business office response to my query on the subject); 4) that gift cards were NOT excluded in their ToS until 2022 (per Internet wayback machine copies of their ever-changing ToS, and that has been widely disseminated and discussed in consumer feedback forums where Dosh complaints of abusive behaviors such as this run rampant); or 5) that paying me HALF of what they owe me is somehow supposed to elicit some sort of grateful response.
Send me my $60, that I earned as a result of responding to your publicly advertised solicitation for business. You have my PayPal address. Or, send me a check. You have my mailing address. Otherwise, I will continue to share my horrible experiences with Dosh to all who are interested. Pay me the $60 you rightfully owe me, and I get to report your redemption instead. What's your time and brand image worth? It seems like it would be more than $60.

Responding to the customer's rejection, we will address each part in turn, to provide correct information:
1) Marketing materials are sent to Dosh account holders who have a non-terminated account with **********************. **************** account, while suspended, is not locked, inaccessible, nor terminated. The only thing that was prevented was withdrawal of Dosh.
2) The Terms of Service state, in section 2: "We may also revise these Terms from time to time in our sole discretion, subject to applicable law. When we revise these Terms, we will post a revised version on the Website and the Application and such revised version will take immediate effect upon posting on the Website and the Application and, subject to applicable law, become binding on you."
3) ******************** analyzes purchase amounts, frequency, timing and considering merchant practices, to determine suspected abuse situations. As our Terms of Service state; "If the Company, in its sole discretion, believes that you are purchasing gift cards at a volume or denomination that is intended to abuse the Services or that appears to be consistent with manufactured spending, the Company retains the right to suspend and/or terminate your Account and remove any DOSH received as a result of the gift card abuse from your Account." When we suspected that abuse may be taking place, the account was suspended.
4) Gift Card abuse was present in our Terms of Service in 2021 when we first responded to **************** questions about withdrawing his funds and the Terms of Service were referenced in our response on 12/28/2021. As our communications stated, it appeared that there was abuse of gift card purchases and we provided ************ the opportunity to dispute this, however he elected to not respond to our request at all.
5) **************** account was suspended due to suspicion of gift card abuse, however the Dosh in **************** account was removed not due to the gift card purchase abuse, but rather due to inactivity. As per our Terms of Service, Section 4, "If at any time your Account becomes Inactive for longer than twelve (12) months (an Inactive Account), we reserve the right to reduce, on a monthly basis, the amount of DOSH held in your Account in the amount of the lesser of (i) DOSH representing the equivalent of $4.99 USD, or (ii) the DOSH balance then reflected in your Account (the Inactive Account Rewards Deduction). The Inactive Account Reward Deduction shall be assessed each consecutive month that the Account remains Inactive. Inactive is defined as failing to either complete an eligible transaction or redeem DOSH from your Account in the trailing twelve (12)-month period or failing to open the DOSH app at least once every thirty (30) days."
**************** account was inactive for 12 months and as such Inactivity Fees were assessed monthly for each month he did not log into the account for a total of $54.89. Notifications were sent to the primary email associated with his account regarding these fees. The Terms of Service state "Inactive Account Reward Deductions cannot be re-credited to your Account, but your ********************** balance will never become negative.".
At any time, ************ could have contacted us to terminate his account, clarify fees, or inquire as to how to un-suspend his account - there was nothing to prevent ************ from submitting a request to support to assist with any issues with his Dosh account. This is demonstrated by his initial support request submission. Upon hearing that we suspected gift card purchases consistent with manufactured spending, ************ ceased to respond to us.
-- After December 2021, ************ ceased communication with Dosh, until this BBB Complaint.
-- ************ did not access his account for a year after 2/5/2022, as inactivity fees began in February 2023.
The next time he logged in was 9/1/2023 - which was why no fee was assessed for October 2023.
However, there was no attempt to contact support at that time, either.
-- There are clear indications of gift card purchases consistent with manufactured spending
-- Terms of Service indicate that Inactive Account deductions cannot be re-credited
We escalated **************** complaint and obtained approval to refund all of the Inactivity Fees which were assessed against his account ($54.89). This amount has been applied to his Dosh Account, and the account has been un-suspended so that ************ can withdraw his balance which is now $60.00. His account has been notated as well regarding this decision. Note: We are not able to send funds on behalf of a user nor issue a check. The user will need to access their account to make the withdrawal. If ************ needs assistance with accessing his account, he may submit a ticket to our support team here: **********************************************************************;Customer Answer

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and while I believe the arguments made are both disingenuous and indicative of predatory behavior, my goal was to recover the funds taken from me. To that end, I have installed the app and initiated a transfer of those funds. Assuming that process isn't defeated or interrupted, and that my money arrives, I accept this resolution.Once those funds have been successfully deposited to my PayPal account, I request that Dosh remove me from all future marketing communications, and delete all data and metadata associated with me and my account to a level that is compliant with ****** (my primary legal residence) 'right to be forgotten'/global privacy laws. This includes all credit card information, and credit card transaction data collection (re Dosh ToS).
One important note regarding what I see as the company's ongoing abhorrent behaviors-- I was forced to provide Dosh a valid credit card number to request _withdrawal_ of my funds to PayPal. There is no legitimate business rationale for requiring me to provide credit card information for this purpose, and begs the question what a company (or individual at that company having access) might do with that credit card information. It all comes off as so very shady. See attached screenshot of system forcing me to provide credit card info.

I used the Dosh app for 10% cash back on multiple rides on Lyft. The offer stated it could be used for $2 cash back daily, and every time I clicked the link the app notified me that 10% cash back was deposited to my account. So, I continued using the offer link daily.Dosh later voided all of the transactions and claimed the offer could only be used once. However, the offer clearly stated that there was a $2 daily maximum and any reasonable person would think the offer could be used once per day to achieve the $2 daily maximum. The app continued to show me the offer every day, and confirmed deposit of 10% cash back each time I used it.Ive attached documentation for all the cash back transactions they canceled - please note that the dates listed by dosh are the dates they processed the cash back (the rides were taken on different days, but processed in batches - I used it once a day to get to work in the morning)There were 13 transactions cancelled by dosh for a total of approximately $25 which I believe they they should pay to me.Business Response

The user contacted us on 12/22/22 (Ticket ******* regarding the transactions which are showing in his account (in the screenshots he provided) as not being eligible for cash back. It was explained at that time that our engineers discovered a batch of transactions, occurring between 11/19/2022 and 12/15/2022, which did not process properly. They resolved the issue which caused this to occur and as part of the resolution, we re-processed these transactions. Due to transaction timing, this unfortunately caused cash back to be issued for Lyft transactions that were not eligible for cash back per the offer limitations.
User was advised that due to the offer limitation, we removed the erroneously paid out cash back. In this case, cash back was paid out on two of the user's transactions, and we explained that we would allow both transactions to process. User was also advised that per section 5(d) in our Terms of Service (*******************************************************), if we award DOSH in error we reserve the right to remove the applicable DOSH from the user's Account.
The offer (in the screenshot attached) clearly shows that the offer is a one time only offer, and because of this only one transaction would be eligible for cash back. The offer also states the other limitations ($2.00 *** on cash back per day, $2.00 per transaction). The purpose of the daily max *** on cash back is so that users are aware that their cash back will be ***ped at $2.00 for this offer and that they will not be expecting more than this amount. All of this information was also provided to the user.
All eligible cash back for this offer has been paid to the user's account and no additional transactions are eligible to be processed.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:Dosh voided cash back because they claimed to have a problem with their engineering team. The app offered me the promotion daily, stated the offer could be used $2/day, and sent me confirmation after each transaction. This led me to continue purchasing lyft rides through the app many times, only to have the offer clawed back later. Rather than honor the offer, they blame me for their mistake. Their resolution is inadequate, and their BBB rating should reflect such poor practices.

We did not assign any blame for the transaction processing issue, rather just explained the issue and what correction took place. Per section 5(d) in our Terms of Service (*******************************************************), if we award DOSH in error we reserve the right to remove the applicable DOSH from the user's Account.
The offer detail in the app clearly states that the offer is a one time offer. No additional transactions are eligible to be processed. The user has been paid out on three transactions which were not clawed back as part of the correction due to the transaction processing issue. As such, the offer has been honored beyond the offer restrictions for this user.Customer Answer

Our Terms of Service state If we believe you are purchasing gift cards at a volume or denomination that is intended to abuse the Services or that appears to be consistent with manufactured spending, Dosh retains the right to suspend and/or terminate your Account and remove any DOSH received as a result of the gift card abuse from your Account. As this behavior appeared to be in violation of our Terms of Service, on 2/12/22, we advised the user that it appeared they purchased a high volume of gift cards from Office Depot, as well as our Terms of Service. Additionally, the Office Depot offer details indicate that gift cards are not eligible for cash back. We gave the user the opportunity to provide itemized receipts with explanation of these transactions if they were not, in fact, gift cards.
On 2/17/22, the user responded that they were trying to find receipts - that they purchase a lot of tech devices from Office Depot for their small business. We, on 2/17/22, advised the user at that time, that wed keep an eye out for their response and documentation, and if their ticket closed, they could respond to our email and it would reopen. We did not hear anything further from the user until receipt of this complaint.
As the user has already cashed out over $2000.00, we can offer two possible options for regaining access to their account:
1. We can claw back the remaining cash back that has not been cashed out ($366.80)
OR
2. The user will have to get the total number of gift card transactions below 60% of their total transactions. The user will need to make 31 non-gift card cash back transactions (these can be of any amount) to bring the total number of gift card transactions below 60% of their total transactions. As we realize that 31 transactions is a large number, we are willing to reduce the requirement to 15 transactions. NOTE: Only three non-gift card transactions per week will be counted towards this goal. Once this has been achieved, the user can submit a ticket and we will review their account and un suspend the account; no funds will be retracted from the account with this option. If the user indicates they would like to proceed with either of these options, we will follow up with an email confirmation to them directly.
