I purchased a car from Consumers choice auto on February 9, 2024. A week later the check engine light came on. I was asked to bring the truck in to be looked at. That day I was told that the vehicle needed a catalytic converter, and that it would take about a week to come in, but the car was drivable until the part came in. March 5th the dodge journey started to over heat really bad, I reached out again to Consumers choice and was told the vehicle would need to be towed to the business and could I pay for the tow truck. I informed them that I didn't have that amount to pay. They picked the vehicle up from tire plus. Three days after picking the vehicle up from them, again the journey started to do the exact same thing over heating and smoking. I called Consumers choice again, again they came towed the journey. This time they gave me a loaner vehicle bc I was paying so much for ubers to get back and forth to work. Within four days the loaner car started to run bad. I was told not to drive the car, but I couldn't drive the car. When I asked if there was another vehicle I could use I was told No. I asked if I could get assistance paying for my uber rides that was no as well. I was told they would swap engines in the journey, and that would take a few days. It has been three weeks with no word from this company about my vehicle. The last communication I had was through text messages and no one would answer my phone calls. They just talk over text messages. I would love a refund of my total down payment $2000, and $400 for my ubers I paid to get to and from work. They sold me a Lemon and they should make it right.Initial Complaint

I was not a customer, but an employee of the business. Let go likely out of retaliation for speaking up to the Owner, ******************, and the co-owner, his wife, ***************************, about touching me and calling me pet names. This business does some very illegal and very sketchy things. I witnessed the Service Manager forge a customer's signature on the right of repossession so we could pick up their car. The Service Manager also refuses service to customers even when they have a warranty on their vehicles. This business does not value professionalism or customer service. Customers are left on hold when the service and finance managers don't feel like addressing any issues instead of communicating with them. Deposits and down payments are non-refundable even if a car is not purchased. Vehicles are repossessed, not by a reputable company, but by the co-owner's brother who consistently steals people's personal belongings out of the vehicles. Any Customer with an issue is given the "corporate email" which is just a Gmail that the same people have access to: the finance and service managers.I am not looking to have any resolution with the business personally. I would just like to make you aware of some of the things going on within this business.Business Response

upon receiving the paperwork for the vehicle there where discrepancies that needed verification. At that moment we refused to finalize the paperwork to ensure that the company would be willing to fix the issues before completing the then needed agreement. As soon as the car was purchased there where immediate issues with the vehicle. The car door needed a replacement key made, due to lack of unlocking. I have paid a locksmith out of pocket ($160.0) to unlock my door. Then i paid the locksmith an additional ($150.0) replace said key within 24 hours to which the dealership did not reimburse me for. Within six months of proper care and maintenance the vehicle, The vehicle looses power. I immediately pulled over into a local car wash and proceeded to check the engine. The engine did not start until my husband gave me a boost using jumper cables. I bought a new ($112.0) battery that same day to replace the dead cell from Wal-Mart. I made it home, but the very next day after work my car lost power again and i was stranded on the side of the road. At that point i called a tow truck to pick up the vehicle because the vehicle would no longer start. The following Friday I had a mechanic to perform a diagnostic evaluation on the vehicle to witch he stated that due to the vehicle not circulating any power aside from the emergency lights, the fuses that are needed for certain functions on the vehicle where needed, and it is recommended that we utilize a mechanic that specializes in electrical issues. I dread to see how much it would be just to repair the wiring in this vehicle. I feel as tho I was sold a lemon through shady business' practices, and the constant calls threatening to reposes the car the same day if the note is not paid on time. Please help me to remedy this situation. I have already spent so much on this vehicle and I have had the car less than a year.Business Response

On Saturday July 29th 2023, I live paycheck to paycheck, and my credit is not the best, this is why I have been shopping around looking a cars at the buy here pay here places... I had stopped at Consumers, filled out the paper work and looked a few cars, was not interested it the cars they had at the time. So about two weeks later and new cars came in and I saw one that I liked, but could not get there until after work. I work till 4 and then its a ******************** ******* (The sales lady) I was working with texted me that someone is looking at the car I was interested in, so I asked "could I put money on the car to hold it till I come look at it" YES she said $500 is all we need... I was going to use that money for the down payment anyway. So I paid the ****** plus ***** (they charge if you use the cash app). I get there with my brother and boy what a surprise, looking at all the cars on the lot they all looked like they all have been in accidents and poorly put back together, paint colors did not match from the poor touch **** bumper not all the way attached. So I said let me think about this and I will let you know. ******* told me that if I didn't like that car I could look at others they had. Monday came and I told ******* I didn't care for the car, could I get my money back.? This is when she informs me that the money is NONREFUNDABLE!! I said wait one min, nobody told me that the money I put down to hold this vehicle was NONREFUNDABLE, nor did I sign anything to that fact.. She said she would check with corporate, got back to me about an hour later and said they are not going to refund my money... So I feel like I was robbed, taken advantage of, mislead, lied too. $****** is a lot of money to me, i'm at a loss ..... they took my money and I STILL don't have a car.. I can't even look at cars now cause they have my money.. Is there anything that the BBB can do to help me? PleaseBusiness Response

He put the money down to guarantee no one else could buy it. He came tot he dealership and saw the vehicle and asked for specific repairs. We agreed to the repairs and provided him with a loaner vehicle while repairs he requested were completed. After the repairs were completed, he decided he did not want the car. He could have told us he did not want the car and not taken a loaner vehicle. He did not. He was told and we have signs visibly posted in every sales office that we do not give refunds for holds or down payments. On 2/10 I inquired via ******** about a car ad that said $500 down payment, no credit check all you need is a job and valid GA drivers license. I spoke with a representative who confirmed this info and I can do it all in house financing. The saleswoman said they have to run my credit and there was no other way. I asked for a copy she refused I also found that the company opened an account on my credit. Afterwards they then told me the true down payment is $1500 not $500. They told me I could send a money order, drop off cash, pay over phone or cash app the company. If I sent payment through cash app it would be no extra charge. March 9th they told me I had to start paying an extra 5% for cash app fee. March 27th I never received my license plate. ************ said I have to come into their office and fill out paperwork for my tags and title. I did let her know I work 2 jobs and I can't just go to ******** and also asked why nobody called and told me the paperwork was incomplete but she never answered only said I would have to come in to fill out more paperwork for the tag and registration. When I ask to speak to a supervisor or the owner she refuses. I spoke with ****** Monday 4/3 who advised I was supposed to come back into the office to fill out paperwork. I told him I'd like to return the car, get a refund and part ways. He said he'll speak with the owners and call me back that never happened I called ****** 4/6 he said the owners are out of town and they'll return 4/10 and they'll be able to determine if they'll refund my money Because I have work over the weekend I called ****** 4/7 and he sent me a bill of sale to apply for an extension on the temp tag. I was advised that Consumer choice had sent my registration to Rockdale county not Gwinnett county so they can not extend the temp tag. I called them back to inform I wasn't able to get the tag and he said the tag office is wrong and I should've called him. He then reiterated that the owners will be back on MondayBusiness Response

I am rejecting this response because: the full down payment and the condition of the vehicle is not the concern. the failure to inform the consumer to return to fill out complete documentation, the attempt to extort additional money after an agreement, the mishandling and lies from your employees. I am rejecting this response because: I was only informed after I asked why I haven't received my license plate. Again you failed to properly inform the consumer of your procedures. You are avoiding the issue of my credit report that you refused to provide when I asked for a copy at the time you ran it without my permission and also why this is on my credit report. You are refusing to take responsibility and forcing me into a contact with you because you refuse to refund my money and I have to make a payment of $200. You're also avoiding the extortion of additional money

Financed the car through Consumers Choice Automotive Group located in *************, ******* on 11/08/2021 financing for a 2016 Dodge Journey. I was promised a down payment of only $500 and a monthly of $404 with the warranty. After a couple of papers were signed they changed the down payment to $2,500. I paid $250 for 10 weeks. They asked me would I like to add a warranty with my vehicle purchase and I agreed. I specifically asked did it cover the main components of the vehicle (engine, transmission, computer system, etc.) and their response was yes. Overheating problems started less than 30 days. Call Consumers Choice, told them my vehicle broke down and was really hot. Towed my vehicle to their shop and informed me that my alternator went out. *************************************************************************************** the car since the alternator went out. Thats all I was told. Car starts smoking on the way to work. I open up the hood to see that my radiator hose has been burned up. Call Consumers Choice again and they said to put water in the coolant tank and try to get it back here so we can take a look at it. I take it back to them and stated that I was still having overheating problems and that this needs to be fixed. 30 day warranty was up so I paid $400 out of pocket for them to change my radiator hose and radiator. March comes and Im going to **********, ** which is only 4hrs and 30mins from my house. Two mins from my destination the car cuts itself off. The diagnosis stated I had a blown head gasket and its going to take $4128 to repair the vehicle. Only 4 months with the car and I have one blown head gasket on my first long-distance trip. The warranty doesnt cover overheating, it only covers multiple head gaskets blown out not one. Ive been trying to contact Consumers Choice since the day it happened and no real response has been made by them. Ive stopped making the payments on the vehicle and still no response from them.Business Response

Complaint: 17443005
I am rejecting this response because:
They asked me would I like a warranty on the vehicle (didnt specify if it was the manufacturer or the dealer). Ive only had the 4 months and my head gasket blows out on my first long-distance drive. Even so, Consumers Choice stated that they changed my engine due to a vehicle breakdown that I had in December. The new engine thats currently in there has broken down so Im due a free repair. If u take your car to a mechanic shop to get serviced and the parts and faulty, youre more than right to take your car back and get it re-serviced for free. Ive been trying to call and text but nobody has reached back out to me. This car has been a HUGE hindrance and inconvenience for me since I got the vehicle and every time I took it back to Consumers Choice, its like the car was getting worse. I just ask that they right their wrongs because Im a loyal paying customer and I wouldnt go to these lengths if I was at fault here.
Sincerely,
