I paid a large sum to Freedom Mortgage on May 2023, to reduce my principal and reach the 20% equity threshold to avoid paying additional private mortgage insurance (PMI) premiums. Freedom Mortgage forced me to pay a substantial fee to remove PMI, which was not disclosed beforehand. However, the main issue is that these payments were never considered in my Freedom account. A month later, I got letters from Freedom Mortgage and AmeriHome indicating that my mortgage was transferred to the latter finance company. Freedom Mortgage continued charging me for mortgage insurance, and the large sum I paid to Freedom disappeared. Only to understand this mess, I spent over 30 hours talking with my accountant, my lawyer, and employees at Freedom Mortgage and AmeriHome. I wasted even more time explaining to AmeriHome that it was illegal not to reduce my principal.

On Thursday October 20th, 2022 we called our mortgage company of 6 years Freedom Mortgage to explore the options of a refinance. We spoke to *********************** to get us set up, we explained to him the reasons behind our refinance and what we were looking to get out of OUR equity. Friday, we were sent an invoice for $500 dollars for an "Upfront" fee and preliminary loan documents that looked good. Monday, our "Customer Advocate" ***************************** reach out to us via email and telephone. The email was asking for information that we had previously provided *** on Friday but I replied anyway with the answers to the questions. When she reached us by telephone she told us I did not reply to her email correctly because she never received anything. She told us we were using the email wrong and she would send us an email to reply to, which she did and we did and she still was not receiving. In the meantime the finalized loan documents were sent to us and all of the numbers were COMPLETELY wrong (APR was wrong, cash out was wrong, payment was exponentially more than we were initially quoted) it appeared we were victims of a bait and switch. At this point we were highly concerned because everything was so different than what was negotiated, we tried reaching out to *** again to no avail. We have since sent several emails asking to cease the process, we have talked to several reps that assure us someone should be calling us back. We are 8 days from the start of this process and we cannot get anyone who is able to resolve our issues at Freedom Mortgage to answer our calls or return our calls or emails. We have disputed the charges of the "Upfront" fee with our bank and we will be removing our mortgage from Freedom as soon as we are able.
