I was leasing an AC unit. I was living in ** at the time. I was looking after my mom who has *********** with ******** and I had a ******* baby. I called the company and asked them if I could return the AC. They said no because they do not have anyone in **. I explained that I was moving to ** because of my mom’s condition. I had no help with her and I am single mom. They told me that I could donate the AC to a nonprofit organization and to send them a letter from them, and that it would all be fine. I did what they asked me to do. Well they messed up my credit. They put it as a surrender, reported late payments (which did NOT happen), put my account as delinquent, and reported that I still owe them $290! They can use that letter for a tax break as a donation, and the company is NOT losing anything, yet they still messed up my credit and refuse to do a goodwill deletion. If I had known they were going to mess up my credit on purpose I would not have donated the AC!!! I am now trying to buy a home for my toddler and myself and can’t because of this account. They flat out lied to me by telling me to donate it and that everything would be OK.Business Response

******* ******* did lease a ac unit. Ms. ******* requested to return the unit back in ****** ****. Ms. ******* was advised to donate the unit since Okinus doesn’t have a pickup company in her area. Okinus spoke with Ms. ******* in ******* **** to let us know that someone by the name of ******** would contact us to continue paying on the lease. Okinus was contacted on ********* by someone who stated they would donate the unit. Okinus reached out to Ms. ******* several times but the phone number that Okinus had was no good. On ***** ** ****, Okinus received the donation receipt stating the merchandise was donated. Any time merchandise is returned or donated, Okinus will report that on the credit report. Ms. ******* was explained that the account would report this way on the credit report when she contacted Okinus on ******** Ms. ******* can dspute the credit reporting with the credit bureaus if she disagrees with the way Okinus is reporting. ThanksCustomer Answer

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because: this was never explained to me. If the unit was donated and you received a letter, you cannot state that I still owe you $290 because that is not reality. Once someone donates an item and you get the letter, you get a tax break so in reality the company did not lose anything, yet my credit is being affected and the company is refusing to do a goodwill deletion even though I did what they asked me to do and fully cooperated with them. After I sent the letter of the donation I never heard anything again from Okinus. I never said that ******** would pay for it, he is the person who bought my house. Your company was trying to charge over $2,000 for an AC that was not even worth that much. So in good faith I did what was asked of me so the company gets a benefit, but yet the company is acting in retribution by damaging my credit?
Sincerely,
******* *******Business Response

Ms. ******* needs to refer to number 18 of the lease. Per number 18, it states that the customer has no right to sell, transfer, assign, pawn, pledge, or sub lease the property. Ms. ******* sold her house with Okinus’ property still there, so Ms. ******* abandoned Okinus’ property. The pickup request was received in ***** **** and the unit was not donated until ******** **** per the donation receipt. Since Ms. ******* did not fulfill the lease agreement, she terminated the lease early by returning/donating the unit. As far as the cost of the lease, Ms. ******* can refer to number 6 of the lease. The account can be sent to our home office for the amount owed to be reviewed, but Okinus will not be able to change how it’s reported to the credit.Initial Complaint

I financed a laptop payment using Okinus. The approval process and getting the device ordered was all a really smooth process. It all went to **** after I got the laptop. I *think* I've paid off half the laptop now, however I have no idea really. Okinus never updates the website where I make my payments. It has been months since I have been able to see accurate payments I've made, how much is actually due for the device, or even when the next payment is due. I had someone reach out to me yesterday about being behind on payment. (Apparently $900 behind WTF!) So when I asked her to please update the website so I can see accurate information she got a shit attitude with me and said it's updated. But only the payment due was updated! I have no information about my own loan. Okinus you need to contact me with accurate information and correct your website or I will be seeking legal advise to get a predatory and shady buisness off my back.Business Response

I would like to ask how long does your company take to get the funds from my account? I have scheduled payments the last few times I've been paid. Normally around $200 and if you are taking the amount I'm paying over the minimum payment to be applied to the account? Or are those funds just disappearing?
Business Response
Date: 02/11/2025
With the automatic draft, it can take 1-3 business days for Okinus to get the funds from the bank. With a card, the payment comes out right then. The last payment that was received on the account was in the amount of $200.00. Your account was set up on automatic withdrawal from the checking account provided during the application process, however, due to your bank returning payments back to us and your account being past due, the automatic withdrawal has been stopped. Okinus had a customer service representative reach out to ******* ********* but we were not able to speak with the customer.Customer Answer

I will bring the account up to current in the next few payments. Please keep the website updated, so it can clearly display the due amounts and payments left. It has been extremely frustrating with how little information I've been able to access about my loan.Business Response

Okinus does offer a 90 day buyout to our customers. Ms. ****** can refer to number 7 and then number 2 regarding the early purchase option. If Ms. ****** continues to have issues with the website, she will need to contact Okinus at ************ so that we can further investigate the issue. We do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. ThanksBusiness Response

Unfortunately, Okinus can’t honor the 90 day buyout that ended in September 2024 or discount the payoff. Ms. ****** has the option to take advantage of the early payoff that Okinus offers instead of going the full lease. We do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused due to human error from our website.Customer Answer

Hello the reason I filed complaint in the beginning is because after contacting the company multiple times, they were not trying to help me which resulted in me missing the 90 days same as cash deadline. When I called and informed them, they still did not try to help me, but instead told me that it was not their fault and now I have to pay the full 5000. I feel that the company should honor my 90 days same as cash deadline due to their faulty website not working for months even after my numerous complaints.Initial Complaint

I did not sign the agreement. The agreement I signed did not contain the information that the company sent me on Friday. I checked my emails for the agreement and I received non. I also checked the online account and the agreement or contract is not available in there as well nor is the balance they say I owe is not on the online portal. The company I purchased the mattress from says they no longer do business with Okinus because the drop them as a client and owe them close to 100,000 dollars for furniture they financed. I went to return the mattress and they won’t accept it because of the terminated relationship. This company is fraudulent. I’m currently speaking with an attorney to resolve this matter. They are prey on the public in hopes that the public will not read but the sad part they do not disclose the full contract , I’ve never seen the contract they sent me . I did not sign it. It is a generated signature and they are capable of adding or changing whatever they want. The mattress was $1 799 and now they want $5100. I’ve paid 2300 and I refuse to pay more. The phone numbers on the website are fickle 1 out of 4 numbers work it took 24 hours to discover which phone numbers work . I thought the company was out of business because of the confusion . I did not think of calling new accounts number because it’s not what I was calling about I tried calling the other number because it was for existing clients . This can’t be legal on how they deceive people …Business Response

Company set me you doing Finance for automatic draft each month then they don’t let you read the contract for financing until after you sign. After calling in to inquire about my balance they then inform me that I still have a outstanding balance in the amount of 3000 and some dollars. But I have all ready paid 2100 for the couch set which was 2200.I don’t know how this is possible.Business Response

All lease agreements are emailed to the customer so that they can READ over the agreement before signing. Ms. ****** should have a copy of her lease in her email. Ms. ****** contacted Okinus on 8/6/24 and was advised that she had the option to take advantage of the 110 day buyout that Okinus offers to our customers. All calls are recorded so Okinus will be glad to let Ms. ****** listen to the call where she was advised when the 110 day buyout would end. Since Ms. ****** did not take advantage of the 110 day buyout, Mr. ****** has entered into the full lease agreement. Okinus still offers an early payoff to our customers who do NOT take advantage of the 110 day buyout. Regarding the balance on the account, Mr. ****** can refer to number 6 on the lease agreement. I have attached a copy of the lease agreement for Ms. *****. If Ms. ****** has any questions, she can reach our office at ###-###-####. ThanksInitial Complaint

On 11/8/2024 while at work I received a phone call, voice mail and email from Okinus. I do not have access to my phone unless on my lunch break as I work in a facility with government contracts. Therefore our phone are locked up so we cannot take photos, make calls, etc... We'll before I even have a chance to return their call or email, they just take a payment from my account which has now caused my mortgage payment to not process. Which now means late fees and returned payment fees to both my mortgage company and my bank. Had Okinus given me time to even see their message to return their call, all of this could have be avoided. But they didn't even give me 1 hour to respond before they just did whatever they wanted to. So how many other people are they doing this to as well. Really just seems like very bad business practices and I am curious as to whether or not to contact a attorney that know consumer laws to see if this is even legal.Business Response

Mr. ******’s payment was due on 11/18/24. Okinus tried to process the payment, but the payment DECLINED. Okinus reached out to Mr. ****** numerous times, but Mr. ****** never contacted our office back. Mr. ****** can refer to number 19 on his lease regarding the payment authorization. ThanksCustomer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: While that is all well and good. On several occasions Okinus has been told that I work in a secure facility where I have no access to phone or internet services. And since Okinus is closed on the times that I'm not working, I cannot call them as they are supposed to have noted it in my account that I can email them during my non working hours as they are closed to phone calls. As well as calling someone and leaving a message for them to contact you and then just withdrawing a payment a hour later without even waiting to see if they get a return call. So according to Okinus they can just take a payment whenever and however they see fit. So now the FTC and
BCP are going to look into the matter further.
Sincerely,
******* ******Business Response

I took out a loan for the amount of about $2400.00. I had paid $1400.00 So I only had about $1000 left. I got a letter saying I owe them $6000.00 now because I didn’t pay in the time frame they said. I called in to find out how much I can give to settle an account and they are trying to make me pay a loan for $5,900. The item I purchased was only $2000. I explained how I lost my job which was the reason I wasn’t able to make the last few payments but I’m now employed and making a decent income to where I can pay the full $2000+ tax by the end of the month. After talking to a rep who was extremely unhelpful, I asked to speak to a supervisor and she agreed I can pay the early pay off option today only which is insane . She stated the option expired in July I asked if I could still make the early pay off at the end of the month and she told me no. Which I don’t understand how can a purchase that only cost $2000 could be $5,900. Then she told me if it goes to collections it’ll be $6,400 which is insane. That is hidden fees and price gouging and should be illegal. I explained that I can pay the early pay off in full this month. This company is money hungry and has hidden fees that doesn’t make sense. I do not want a $6000 bill on my credit that was only purchased for $2000. That is insane, if someone can help me with this I can make the full payment August 30th please ( the purchase was for a two piece sofa that was on sale for $999 which I took off the floor and a bed frame for $1000 something in that price range, if I would have known they wanted $6000 I would have just waited to purchase out of pocket) All I ask for is to at least let me pay in full by August 30th no later than September 7 I am now employed and can pay the early payoff $2000 loan but $5900 is completely unreasonable. Or even refinance from the loan so I can pay it off, for a company that states they work with all credit types this is completely unreasonable and unrealistic to expect from customers.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: they are not being reasonable or understanding for a company that supports people with bad credit. I’ve stated I was unemployed for the month of April and May and had just started back working and all I am trying to do is get back on track with bills. This makes absolutely no sense to pay almost $6000 for something that was only $1800. All I’m asking is for my original loan amount or an option to refinance my items. The response from this company is not only rude but inconsiderate. Especially to say return my furniture when I’m just trying to make some type of payment arrangement. Wow!!!

I have had to file numerous disputes with credit reporting agencies over the last year plus due to Okinus misreporting my balance owed to credit agencies. Despite these numerous disputes they continue to misreport - impacting my credit score and disregarding my requests for resolution both directly with them and with the credit agencies. Last month they reported I still owed $1,627 when it was closer to about $300. I made a final payment of $177 today and am not confident they will update anything to show that this account has been fully paid off. While I believe you get what you get with high interest predatory companies like Okinus, I do think that it is extremely negligible business practice to misreport the amounts paid as they have.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: the business is incorrect. I am referring to equifax and TransUnion. Both of whom I have filed disputes with directly, and have had to file about four disputes in total over the last year for reporting inaccurate late payments and inaccurate balances. They do this regularly which I would see as an improper business practice which is why I took the additional step of filing a BBB complaint because there should be more accountability for inaccurate reporter as a regular practice rather than a one occurrence error.

However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.
When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.
BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this business, please let the business know that you contacted BBB for a BBB Business Profile.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
