Econocheck refused to honor the towing roadside assistance benefits that we pay for as a community trust bank member. They refuse to honor the ****** tow benefit after we were stranded on the side of the road for many hours at night and in snow without heat. We couldnt contact the bank after hours and was never given contact information or special codes for service. There was only one tow service working in the area and the bill was over ******. They refuse to reimburse any of it. It is a very misleading and shady way of doing business. Consumer protection needs to get involved. I request ****** reimbursement from econocheck.Business Response

My iPhone, iPad and wallet were stolen, and part of my banks benefits is theft protection for a cell phone as long as my bill is paid through my bank account. This company is trying to refuse my claim if I cannot show the previous statement with a payment out of it, but that payment was late due to somebody got my card info and auto pay from cellphone company couldnt withdraw payment and I hadnt received a replacement card in time. and so I didnt make a payment in that statement. I had to pay by other means. But still payment made before theft they are trying to refuse my claim based on when my payment to cellphone company was made. It doesnt matter when the payment was made it matters what monthly cell phone bill the payment was made for. Payment made 9/16 before claim date of 9/23. I can prove I had a fraud case in last month. They cant penalize and refuse a claim due to that.Business Response
Date: 10/04/2024

Following review of the claim documentation provided, documentation evidencing that the customer's cell phone bill was paid out of their eligible account during the month prior to the incident date (August in this case) was requested as this information is required for claims processing per the terms and conditions for the cell phone protection benefit. At no point was the customer informed that the claim was being denied.

This customer enrolled in an Accidental Death and Dismemberment ("AD&D") insurance program on August 2, 2020, following receipt of an offer from the customer's financial institution. The offer included instructions for enrolling by mailing the enrollment form included with offer or by enrolling online at the program's website **********************************;
This customer enrolled online by selecting the coverage they wished to purchase, entering their account information for the debiting of premiums and authorizing the debiting of premiums for the coverage purchased. During the enrollment process, the customer also listed the beneficiaries the customer wished to receive claim funds under the policy in the event of an accidental death (see attachment).
This customer first contacted ********************** regarding their coverage late in the afternoon on the date this complaint was filed. The customer service representatives that spoke with the customer informed the customer how they enrolled and purchased AD&D coverage through their financial institution and noted that they had named three family members as beneficiaries.
Econocheck's customer service manager also sent an email to the customer with copies of the customer's insurance certificate, billing authorization and beneficiary designations. The email also confirmed that the customer's AD&D coverage has been cancelled at the customer's request.

This complaint has been resolved. We have responded to the customer and explained that while we understand the recent payment for the claim under their family member's accidental death and dismemberment ("AD&D") insurance policy was less than expected, the claim was paid in accordance with the policy. The claim payment was processed in an amount equal to the percentage of the maximum benefit amount that corresponded to the insured's age bracket as of the date of the insured's passing.
The offer for AD&D coverage received from the insured's financial institution clearly disclosed the fact that benefit amounts reduce with age. This information is noted on the enrollment form and in the insurance certificate mailed to the insured following enrollment (see highlighted language on the first page of the enrollment form, attachment 1, and on page 3 of the insurance certificate, attachment 2).
AD&D policies frequently include age reductions, particularly when premium amounts are not adjusted based on the insured persons age, as is the case with the policy purchased by this customer's family member. The offer to purchase AD&D coverage was a joint offer made available to the insured through their financial institution and the insured's financial institution elected to offer the coverage to its customers regardless of age.
We informed the customer that we would be happy to provide an explanation of the age reduction schedule and its impact on claim payments and/or schedule a call to discuss the policy details and address any other questions they may have.
