On August 5, 2024, a charge of $ ***** was made to my checking account. I did not authorize this deduction and have no idea of Who or Why. I keep my information private. Other transaction information is questionable, A telephone number ************ is associated with ************* If they have my banking information then they must have my telephone number! There are several BBB (Better Business Bureau) complaints and that is suspicious. The internet reflects associations with a couple of Banks anda thank you program. I want my money bank and no association with this organization.

This complaint has been resolved.  The customer was contacted after receiving notice of this BBB complaint to determine if the customer would like to cancel their insurance policy offered through their financial institution.

The customer responded and confirmed that they wanted to retain their insurance coverage and did not want to cancel the policy. The customer also stated that not recognizing the premium debit was a mistake and hoped the complaint did not cause any inconvenience.

A $16.50 "ACH Transaction" on my checking account appeared today, dated 6/3/2024 that I did not authorize. The description line was "ECON800-832-6858 JUN INS" Having read through the prior complaints I can say beyond any shadow of a doubt I did not authorize, request, apply for any insurance plan. Nor have I give ANY necessary banking information to ANYONE!!! I simply do NOT give out this type of information, PERIOD!!! THIS IS A SCAM!!!

      Business response

This complaint has been resolved.  The customer that submitted the complaint was not found in our system, but in speaking with the customer, we were able to confirm that the customer's spouse had recently purchased accidental death and dismemberment ("AD&D") insurance coverage through their financial institution and had used a joint account held with their spouse to pay premiums for the voluntary coverage purchased.

The customer advised us to contact their spouse to discuss the coverage.  We contacted the customer's spouse who elected to retain the complimentary AD&D coverage provided by their financial institution and cancel the additional coverage purchased.  A refund was issued for the premiums collected.

A $5.50 charge on my checking account appeared today, 5/3/2024 that I do not recognize. In the description line was "ECON800-832-6858 ************** I called that 800 # to determine who they were a recording stated "insurance service center", no company name which is highly suspecious. I did not authorize, request, apply for any insurance plan. I immediately called my bank and reported the fraudulent charge. I want the refund for this transaction and no further charges EVER from this "service."

      Business response

This complaint has been resolved.  The customer purchased accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage offered through their financial institution in March 2024 with a coverage effective date of April 1, 2024.  After receiving notice of the complaint, the customer was contacted to determine if they would like to cancel their insurance coverage.

The customer elected to cancel the coverage they had purchased but retain the complimentary AD&D insurance coverage provided by their financial institution.  The customer's optional coverage was cancelled on May 3, 2024, and a refund was issued for the premiums that had been collected for the months of April and May.

I have never authorized this accidental death and dismemberment policy. I have my own policy through work and I sell insurance. I don't know what kind of scam this is but clearly I'm not the only one dealing with this. I would like a complete refund immediately and to know who they bought my information from. I would also like to see my signature on a form- because I know there is not one. The screenshot is from my checking account showing the deductions. When I requested this of the person at the 800-number I was told that I signed up online. I would not do that as I already have policies. This is fraud.

      Business response

      03/28/2024

This complaint has been resolved. The customer enrolled in an accidental death and dismemberment insurance program offered by their financial institution in October 2020. The form the customer *********************** to purchase coverage (see attached) was included in the offer mailed to the customer.  After the enrollment form was received through the mail, the customers enrollment was processed and an insurance certificate outlining the coverage was mailed to the customer.

The customer contacted *********************** customer service center on June 3, 2021 with questions regarding the premiums being debited from their account.  The customer service representative explained the insurance coverage in place and the monthly premiums due for the coverage and mailed another copy of the customers insurance certificate to them.

The customer did not contact ********************** by phone or mail after the call in June of 2021 and Econocheck received no correspondence from the customer until the customer responded to the email ********************** sent after receiving notice of this complaint.

On Tuesday, March 26th,the customer responded to an email from ********************** that included a copy of the customers enrollment form stating that the signature on the form was not the customers signature.  Econocheck cancelled the customers insurance coverage and advised the customer to contact their financial institution to dispute the changes (see attached correspondence).

I am rejecting this response because:

As I have stated to the company when they reached out (only after I filed this complaint) I want to cancel this policy and have it voided out. I've never filed out paperwork with them and I don't know where they got that form. I expect the premiums that they illegally removed from my checking account returned within 7 business days or I will be taking this to an attorney. I've already contacted the bank to explain to them the situation and they stated that I should continue working with the BBB and hopefully this insurance company doesn't end up with yet ANOTHER negative review from all of this. Clearly it's an ongoing issue after seeing all of the other complaints.

      Sincerely,

      *****************************

      Business response

      04/08/2024

As noted in our previous response, this customers insurance coverage has been cancelled. No further charges will be debited for the collection of premiums for the coverage the customer purchased in October 2020.  As with all insurance programs, insureds may cancel coverage at any time by contacting our customer service department by phone or by contacting us in writing.

As also noted in our previous response, an offering for the coverage was mailed to the customer by their financial institution. The enrollment form signed on October 1, 2020, was mailed by the customer to purchase the coverage.  The enrollment form also included the handwritten name of the beneficiary the customer wished to designate for the receipt of funds under the policy in the event of the customers accidental death.  Following the processing of the customers enrollment form, a fulfillment package with a copy of the customers insurance policy was mailed to the customer.

This customers last contact with Econocheck prior to receipt of this complaint was in June of 2021, at which time the customer did not request cancellation of their insurance coverage.  Econocheck mailed another copy of the customers insurance policy to the customer following this call.

*********************** contact information was included with the policy mailed to the customer in June of 2021 and the phone number for Econocheck is listed beside each monthly debit of premiums (see attachment provided by the customer with the original complaint).  No funds were illegally removed from the customers account.  Premiums were collected in accordance with the signed enrollment form received from the customer for the purchase of their insurance coverage.

Econochecks process in the event of an allegation of fraud is to advise the customer to dispute the charges with their financial institution.  Econocheck can then work with the customers financial institution to process refunds of any disputed charges.

In an effort to resolve the customers concerns, Econocheck has also offered to accept an affidavit from the customer confirming that the signature on the customers enrollment form is not the customers signature and that the named beneficiary is not known by the customer.  Upon receipt of this affidavit, Econocheck will initiate an investigation into the fraud allegations.

I am rejecting this response because:

I've contacted my financial institution and they have redirected me to this company that is trying to make me play some kind of runaround in a circle game. I'm tired of it. This has been over a year. I want the money back in my account and to let everyone know how horrible this company is.

As a benefit, my bank offers mobile phone protection through our ******* checking account. This benefit is contracted out to the "**************/ ***************** We have paid $8 for this benefit every month for almost 3 years. Last month we filed our first claim with all of the appropriate documentation and it was denied. It was denied under the premise that our phone bill was not paid out of our ******* checking account which is a requirement to receive the benefit. We supplied *************** with appropriate documentation to support that our phone bill had been coming out of our account for almost 3 years and we were denied a second time. I am writing this in hopes of receiving the benefit that is due to our account for the mobile phone protection that was offered.

This complaint has been resolved.  Upon receipt of this complaint on Monday, March 4th, the customer's claim was reviewed and was re-opened for processing as it was determined that it should not have been denied.  The customer was informed via email on Monday, March 4th that the claim was being processed for payment.

Multiple attempts were also made to contact the customer by phone the week of Monday the 4th.  While we have been unable to speak with the customer, a follow-up email was sent to the customer today, March 11th.  The email was sent to remind the customer that the claim payment should be received within the next few days if not received already, and to provide a direct contact in our claims department should the customer have any questions.

This complaint has been resolved. Outside of a coverage change request processed a few years ago and the communication detailed below, Econocheck has not received any correspondence from the customer listed in the complaint regarding the insurance coverage administered by Econocheck.

Econocheck's customer service manager contacted the customer at the phone number provided in the complaint on the morning of January 3rd and after leaving a voicemail, sent an email to the email address in the complaint to offer assistance.

The voicemail and email were received by a representative of the complainant who spoke with the Econocheck manager on the afternoon of January 3rd.  A copy of the customer's insurance certificate and most recent coverage change form was sent to the representative and reviewed while on the phone with the Econocheck manager.

During this conversation, the representative indicated that the insurance coverage administered through Ecoocheck had been confused with coverage through another provider when the BBB complaint was submitted.

On January 5th, the complainant requested claim forms which were mailed to the customer that day.

I filed a mobile insurance claim with them and they refused to accept it. Why? Because I'm on my dad's business plan for cheaper phone service. In their benefits guide, it states that phones purchased for resale, business, or commercial purposes are not covered. I bought my phone for me to use personally. I paid for their service through my bank and they won't even cover my phone.

This complaint has been withdrawn.  After speaking with representatives of Econocheck and this customer's financial institution, the customer realized that the debit was for the collection of premiums for an accidental death and dismemberment insurance policy which the customer recently purchased.

When speaking with the Econocheck representative, the customer stated they would respond to the ******************** confirmation email received to inform the BBB that the complaint should be disregarded.

I have a withdrawal from my checking account on 4/3/2023 for the amount of $113.00, I have not authorized any such business to do so! I need my money refunded immediately! My husband will be out of work for the next 4 months and I shouldn't have to be dealing with unauthorized withdrawals!

      Business response

This complaint has been resolved.  The customer elected to purchase accidental death and dismemberment insurance coverage through an offer made available by her financial institution.  The customer submitted a signed enrollment form for the purchase of this coverage, which was received and processed by Econocheck in February 2023.  The coverage became effective March 1, 2023.

Econocheck contacted the customer on Wednesday, April 19th after receiving notice of this complaint.  Econocheck cancelled the customer's policy and issued a refund of premiums collected.  Econocheck also mailed a copy of the customer's enrollment form to the customer.  The customer was satisfied with this resolution.
