My mother had her *** with them for many many years. She passed away in August of 2023 and because one of the beneficiaries has disclaimed their portion because they did not want to take the distribution it is now July and the payment has been unduly delayed. I understand from my contemporaries that other companies actually assist people in getting the claim paid promptly. Midland National has made the process unreasonably difficult and their actions have resulted in my loss of income.Midland National Life Insurance Company Response

Terrible. Dont work with this company. I have a 403B that needs to transfer out. It was a variable rate and they dropped my rate down and wont raise it. Ive been trying over a month to get my money transferred to another company and they are refusing to release it. When you call them They put you on hold indefinitely and keep giving a message, your **** time is longer than 20 minutes. This message repeats over and over. I am totally disgusted, and will never do business with them again. Ive been calling for days, no luck getting through.Midland National Life Insurance Company Response

I'm giving 5 stars to BBB, for having a site to help someone make the right choices. Because after seeing these reviews about Midland Life Insurance. I surely will Not be dealing with them. My heart, goes out to these people, that have to go through such a hard time. For all the money they had already put in. And get no results. And I'm sure there are many more people going through this. Just don't take the time, to leave a review. But, I am thankful for the one's whom do. They help many like myself not to make the same mistake. Thank you, much appreciated.Review from Sierra D

$185 was taken out of my account today and I called to ask about it because it's normally only 11.17 a month the lady said she couldn't talk to me because it was associated to my husband's account, but I pay his payments and I am on his account. So I can't know why you took money from me? Makes no since to me. I had to wait on hold for more than 30 minutes to even talk to someone.Midland National Life Insurance Company Response

Midland is the worst. I had a term life insurance policy with them for 20 years--TWENTY. My term was up and of course they raised the premium to a ridiculous amount. I called and asked about options to convert to whole of universal life. Well, no sales people were available to talk with me and they would call back. No call. End of year, crazy at work and hold times are so bad it's hard to get it done during the workday. I finally had time to call them back (before my lapse date). I explained the situation, that my term ended, I had asked for info on a converting to whole or universal and , sales was 'busy' at the times and l said they never called me back and I would like to get quotes. She said of course, put me on hold and then came back and said that the window for that has passed and the policy would need to go through medical underwriting. I said, you dropped the ball. I called the day I got the new premium notice. She said they called and left VMs 2 times. I did not see any VMs. She only mentioned they called after I objected, not when I first called in and mentioned I was waiting for a call back. She got a little snippy and said "we called, twice." She would not budge. I have tried to get life insurance with medical underwriting, but due to chronic migraine and some previous (not current) health issues (which if you live in America, you have health issues!!!!) my premium was going to be $1200/month. WHAT?! I'm so livid, but I know they truly don't care and maybe they even engineered this to drop me. I could try calling back and asking for a supervisor, but there's really no incentive for them if this is how they treat a 20 year customer. Based on the other reviews here, sounds like they would have caused my surviving family misery and stonewalling if they did try to collect on it. I have other insurance through work, but this just burns me. I guess I have to take the loss, but beware this company does not care AT ALL or appreciate their customers.Review from Rebecca D

This company is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to work with. No one would discuss anything with us prior to my moms passing. And now, no one will discuss anything with us. Even refused to speak with the attorney handling the estate. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY AT ALL.Review from Jody H

Horrible to deal with. Inherited annuity and they have been the worst & slowest to deal with in the entire estate/probate process. Their favorite saying is "it's under review"... which takes 4-6 weeks for them then to tell you they need more information (after telling me they had everything they needed ). Stay away unless you like delays and frustration.Review from Pat T

Annuities are supposed to give you safety of principal but you sacrifice with the lack of liquidity and generally lower returns. I lost 9% of my initial premium with Midland National. Very poor customer service to boot, Their annuity products perform so poorly that I decided to take the penalty after two years of poor performance. Even their fixed income products are below money market returns. They offered me 1.4% to switch from my managed equity fund to a fixed income fund at a time when T-Bills offer more than 5% yield. I only talked to them twice but one of these times, the waiting on hold was over 40 minutes to talk to a live customer service agent. One may argue that I lost money by terminating my contract early but the alternative was to finish the contract at barely above a 0,5% annual return.Midland National Life Insurance Company Response

Do not give your hard earned money to this insurance company. We are out of ******, and their agent screwed over me and my wife, my mom and sister-in-law. Close to $60,000. Their agent just wanted his bonus, he did not have a signed a document saying we could take the money out whenever we wanted. We were supposed to make money on this. We initially invested $20,000. We didn't make any money we lost money. Then they told us they wanted $1000 a month. Pretty much $12,000 a year. This was the worst mistake we had ever made and we told them how their agent screwed us, they could not care less and would not help us whatsoever I've looked, and the money is pretty much all gone, most likely to line their pockets. Do not ever invest of these people, or buy life insurance through them.Midland National Life Insurance Company Response
