  I found ******************************* and his company 'Square Ft2 Builders' on a contractors website like Angi's List or Home Advisor. He came to our home and we discussed a project to build a pergola, an attached overhang roof on our patio, and updates to our fence and fire pit. He quoted us a price of $18,200 and we signed a contract with him. He asked for half up front so we paid him $9,100 in late March of 2024. He was to have the work done by the start of May. In the middle of April the pergola was completed and he asked for a second payment as agreed upon. So, I gave him a second check for $5,000. At this point I had paid him $14,200 and he had completed about $2500 worth of work. Then his communication became spotty, he was harder and harder to get a hold of, and eventually he stopped responding whatsoever. He entered into a contract with us to do a significant amount of work but he took our money and left without doing the majority of the job. It is now August and I'm writing this complaint. I have spoken to the police and they are pursuing the case. ******************************* will either be charged with theft or fraud depending on what the judge views it as based on the evidence that I provided to the detective. Do not hire ******************************* or Square Ft2 Builders to do work in the **************** area. He is a scammer, a fraud, a liar, and a thief.

  Attached is the original scope of work created by *******************************, signed by me, and with a proof of 1st payment written, signed, and dated by ***** himself.  Also attached are my bank's records of the 1st and 2nd payment checks being cashed by *******************************.  I can provide further evidence if needed.  I have recorded images of all of the text communications between ***** and myself and I created a spreadsheet log of all of our phone conversations including date and length.  All together, it is very clear that ***** presented himself as a contractor that could complete my projects, took my money, and then disappeared after receiving the second payment.
