i live in the state of ******* and the Homeowners Insurance jumped over 50% in 2 months. My policy was coming up for renewal and I could not afford the new premium the company was about to chrge me. I am on social security and disabled and my husband is also. Our funding is limited so i stay on a tight budget. I got a flyer from Kin insurance and got information and i like their plan and we entered into a policy. The policy saids it started in july and i was quoted 4 installments or quarterly installments of $438.25. *** has not honored this. They sent me a text the last week in Sept. saying they want the 2n installment on the 26th and another one in 2 months. I disputed this saying this is quarterly and i am on a budget with my S.S.check. My bills were already paid for the month. They rejected that and still pursued me. I talked to someone else from the company and he say can you pay in October and again in December. I say no this is not quarterly. Also my **** estate taxes went up i pay them every 3 months my car insurance rate when up i pay that every month. I have life insurance to pay every quarte. And my husband had surgery in august and the anesthesia bill came for over $1000.00 and expenses with this storm. I need help thank you.Business Response

Kin originally cut a check to pay for repairs only, then agreed to replace entire roof. The first check was void after 90 days. They cut another check less that amount and told us once they received the by now EXPIRED check they would reissue. We mailed it the sane day. They stated until they get it they won't reissue. It has been *Months*. ******************* the rep ************ has not returned any calls. The roofing company keeps requesting the balance due. The claim # is HO-*******. I am rejecting this response because:I do not accept the response made by the business to resolve this complaint. Where is the evidence after 2 years of uninterrupted coverage on my property? They dont have enough arguments to cancel. They just cancel after I made a claim request through the insurance for wind fence.

Kin insurance was advertising in my area. I called them. They wrote a policy and did a wind mitigation that they wanted. We take good care of the house. We installed a roof, hurricane proof windows, doors and garage door. Now we are putting in a new kitchen and floors. I called Kin to ask why they are canceling us after only 2 months. They said it was for peeling paint and lack of gutters. They are not giving us a chance to fix anything. I feel the canceling is due to news of increased storms in my area. We feel well prepared with new storm windows and newer roof. It's currently too hot to have the exterior painted which will be done this fall. It is very unfair to cancel us for these minor issues.Business Response

Kin doubled my house or home insurance against the guidelines outlined by the ******* Office of Insurance Regulations yearly increase amount. They doubled the price without telling me, then removed the funds from my Escrow without me agreeing the increased price rate. This should be illegal, not only the price gauging, but removing more money than was agreed upon by the two parties. If the insurance company is going to increase rates, then they should have to obtain a signed agreement associated to the policy change.Business Response

On June 5th 2022 the Tropical Storm **** damaged our home's roof, the ceiling fell on the floor and we were told by the Kin Insurance adjuster agent that the damage was caused by "TEAR AND WEAR" not by the storm, which delivered 10+ inches of rain, although never before had we a water leaking problem. In our policy there is the following: "Windstorm or hail .............this peril does not include loss, unless the direct force of wind or hail damages the building causing an opening on the roof......"This tropical storm created lots of damage in *******, we were not the only ones and still Kin does not want to admit the facts, they deliberately twist the truth and use an excuse of "TEAR and WEAR" to avoid to pay for our damage.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.I attached the mitigation report which was given to us in November, 2021 before we purchased our home, which does indicate any wear and tear that the Kin Insurance claims to avoid reimbursement.

I am rejecting this response because:I cannot accept your decision about closing my case, because when I clicked on the question about agreeing to the decision about the situation, I thought the question referred to the Better Business Bureau decision of the case, not the KIN Insurance decision.Kin Insurance refuses to admit that they have an obligation to reimburse our loss. At first they claimed the WEAR AND TEAR argument for the ******************* caused roof damage.Recently they changed their opinion, now they say that the our ******* room is an other structure that our policy does not cover. If they firmly believe that the damage was, as they previously said "WEAR and TEAR", how come they now claim the roof being part of an "OTHER STRUCTURE" ?This is a proof that they are just looking for an excuse to avoid paying for our damages. Please reopen our case, even if we never get reimbursed we want other people to know what they can expect if they buy a home insurance coverage from this company.********************************* & *******************Below I copied they email and our respond also.Hi Magdolna, -
During our usual audits, we discovered a document showing you elected out of other structures coverage (Coverage B) was missing from your policy packet. We wanted to get you your updated documentation as soon as possible.Your corrected policy packet that includes your election out of Coverage B is now in your portal! This update does not alter any coverage limits you selected or affect your premium. If you have questions or would like to add this coverage to your policy, were just a phone call or email away at ************ or ***************.Thanks for your time and understanding!Kin InsuranceYES, we elected out of other coverage because we have no other structure. I transferred and purchased my Homeowners Insurance with Kin on August 2021. Upon my renewal, Kin increased my premium by 100% from $3,308 to $6,745. According to Kin Insurance representative The whole ******* insurance market has had to increase rates significantly due to the high cost of catastrophe reinsurance, and Kin is affected by this as well. We try to have the lowest cost of anyone in the market based on building our company on modern technology, operating more efficiently, and cutting out independent agents, but we have to pass through these reinsurance expenses like every other carrier.Kin mitigates lawsuits from scams by not allowing assignment of benefits, I have not had any claims in my history of homeownership, and have appropriate wind mitigations. This feels like a bait and switch by the company, offering an initial low price the first year to subsequently increase the premium two folds and leaving customers having to scramble to switch insurance.Business Response

I had purchase home insurance last year through KIN insurance, in March we had storm which damage my roof, I'd put in a claim after finding out my roof was damage and needs to be replaced. Today after a month waiting on a reply from the claims department I was inform that I had an endorsement on my policy which depreciates the roof by how old it is, So the only payment I will receive for the roof replacement will be $700. I would have to cover the remaining $15,000. This company is a **** off they never explained what was cover or not cover the endorsement part was never mention on the purchase of the home insurance. I've been paying Kin insurance $1350. a year so they could come and say I have to pay for my roof, I live pay check to pay.Business Response

On May 25 , I have damage due to heavy rains on my patio tiles , contacted Kin Insurance and was helped by a very nice person ****, He told me that I was covered but that I have a $ ***** deductible ,filed a claim # HO-******* and assigned me to a Claim ********************************* ,From the very first time I spoke with Mr ***** I noticed that He was going to denied the claim no matter what, He mentioned that my house was built in the year *********************************** the year **** , He repeated this 3 times ,I have to go to the original Policy Declaration of Kin Insurance ( page 3 ) where it clearly shows **** , I think He was trying to say I was lying ,finally He admitted it was an error on his papers ,He sent an adjuster on June 1,2022,a week later Mr ***** called me and said I was not covered because it was probably from water damage ,then I mentioned that I had also Flood Insurance with his company , told him look at my policy (page 4 ) He didn't know , His answer was "Now I will have to sent an engineer" They came two of them June 14,2022 ,after more than a week with no news from Mr ***** I called him 3 times and sent him 3 e mails ,no answer until June 24 when i called again, this time He answered and mention He just received the engineers report , that was a lie ,because the agent that connected me to Mr ***** mention they had the report a few days before ,While I was on the phone with him in less that a minute He said I was not covered , that the engineers said that it was the way they cemented the tiles when they put them, Please these tiles have been in my patio for over 20 years and never a problem .Probably Kin Insurance spent more money sending the adjuster and two engineers from ****** than the cost of my repairs , My total claim was for $ ***** less $***** deductible = $2,025 I am 80 years old ,and aa loyal customer of ******************** , never put a claim against them . I am rejecting this response because: If you read my original complaint the person assigned to my case from the very beginning wanted to denied my claim ,He didn't know I have flood insurance ,had the wrong information about my house Built in **** not ********* not answer my phone calls or e mails .The adjuster that was sent on June 1 admitted that it looks like the damage was because of a flood ,this adjuster lives in the area and knew there was heavy rain the week before , the engineers that they sent June 14 came from ****** ,more than a thousand miles away didn't knew about the rain , two contractors came to give me an estimated and both said it was because of the heavy rain .What am really surprise is that Kin Insurance is spending all this time and money for such a small claim ,and the way they treated me ,an 80 year old man and a loyal customer

I recd an ad in the be mail which I set aside in case I chose to reevaluate my homeowner insurance. In these times where everyone is trying to make ends meet it seems ti make sense especially in *******. The insurance companies drop people to limit their exposure. My son took the time to contact them he said it was a lengthy procedure involving a lot of personal information only to be told that they are not insuring in the area! This company sends out 10s if thousands of these ads duping people into giving them personal information. The ad states save $750 * on average when you join. I want to know what this company is doing with with the information they are collecting and why they are pushing these ads in an area they are not insuring. I dont feel comfortable not knowing if they are destroying the information they collect and how they destroy it. Thank you in advance for replying to this complaint.Business Response
