Today was the second (and last) time that this has happened to my 2 dogs. We took them in again for a simple nail trim and gland expression. The previous week, my husband took them in for the same thing and was told "they are too agitated, they are scratching everyone, we can't do it." My 2 dogs are NOT aggressive whatsoever. Funny, because I have been taking them here for the past 2 years for the same service with NO issues. Now my dogs are uncooperative? That tells me 1 of 2 things: you have new vet techs who do not know what they are doing or someone is mistreating my dogs and THAT is the reason they are "reacting". We were told my dogs needed to be "put out" aka sedated for a nail trim/gland expression. I was already aggravated so I agreed. NEVER have I heard of any dog getting anesthesia to have a nail trim!!! $422.00 dollars later - oh - we get home, and they obviously OVERSEDATED my male dog- at one point, he was apneic (stopped breathing for about 10 seconds)- I shook him awake and stayed with him, monitoring his breathing!!! (Thank God we are both 1st responders and can recognize apnea and know what to do- at NO POINT did anyone tell us to closely monitor for oversedation. If an average lay person was in our shoes, they might have gone about their day, figuring their dog was just sleepy but they would have found a dead dog later) They failed to properly calculate when the sedation would kick in. Who know what kind of dose (overdose) they were given. At one point, I thought my dog passed away on my floor- this was one of the worst days of my life! Oh and they also overcharge-a "sedation fee" then a separate fee for the doctor to administer the sedation!? It is now 2100- well over 6 hours since this incident, and both my dogs are still heavily sedated to the point they cannot go up and down stairs, let alone sit up and stay awake. I have been a dog owner all my life, and until today, I have never experienced such incompetence, greed and carelessness.
