I hired Green Attic to seal and insulate the exterior rim joist in my finished garage. Green Attic proposed doing the work from my garage, which required cutting into the drywall, rather than from the room above (which I proposed in light of other work I was doing on the flooring). The quote said that Green Attic would cut "necessary strips of drywall to access the ceiling space," add cellulose insulation, and seal the rim joist "where possible." That made sense to me as I understood that 100% of the rim joist might not be accessible. Work was done on 3/6/25. The crew did not seal the rim joist; the crew said they were not aware that that was part of the job. I paid Green Attic $2,840.50. In response to my telephone complaint on 3/6/25, Green Attic claimed that it was "impossible" to seal the rim joist because the garage was finished. This is not true; it can be accessed by cutting strips of drywall, which is what Green Attic's quote says it will ***** response to my complaint, Green Attic offered to "blow cellulose in the rim joists." This makes no sense. A rim joist is a beam and adding cellulose insulation does not seal it. In addition, Green Attic's quote said it would blow in cellulose insulation "to capacity." The proposed solution does not address the issue.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond.

On March 6, 2025, Green Attic completed work on the customers garage based on a signed agreement that included:
Cutting necessary strips of drywall to access the ceiling space,
Blowing cellulose insulation to capacity, and
Sealing the rim joist where possible.

The dense-pack cellulose insulation was installed as described. However, we acknowledge that air sealing the rim joist with foam was not performed, despite being referenced in the contract.

    Clarification and Background:

In recent years, Green Attic has transitioned away from using foam to air seal rim joists in finished areas. Our blower door tests and field performance data have shown that dense-pack cellulose insulation alone performs very well in reducing air infiltration in these spaces. As a result, we no longer include foam air sealing in most garage rim joist applicationsespecially when access requires cutting drywall, which we typically charge extra for.

That said, in this case, the contract language was not updated to reflect our revised practices, and we take full responsibility for that oversight. We understand how this caused confusion and frustration, and we want to make it right.

    Resolution Offered:

To resolve the issue, we are offering two options:
1.We will return at no additional cost to perform air sealing with foam at the rim joist where accessible, or
2.We will issue a $400 refund toward the missed air sealing portion of the work.

We value transparency and accountability and sincerely apologize for the miscommunication. We are committed to delivering a fair resolution and ensuring customer satisfaction.

    Sincerely,
    Green Attic **************** Team

I am rejecting this response because: this is much more than a mere oversight in the contract. The reason that I contacted Green Attic was to arrange sealing of the rim joists in my garage, a project I had discussed with Green Attic several years ago when they did work in my attic and basement. At that time, they suggested accessing the garage joists from the floor of the room above if and when I was replacing flooring.

For this project, I spoke with the same salesperson who handled my prior transaction. I specifically discussed sealing the rim joists with him in person. He stated that accessing through the drywall in the garage was preferable. He never said that Green Attic had "transitioned away" from that work and he specifically mentioned that Green Attic would patch the drywall (I mentioned that another vendor would do the work but not the patching).

I am out-of-pocket close to $3,000. Green Attic did not do the work that I hired it to do, that its salesperson and I discussed, and that its quote suggested that it would ... at the very least ... try to do. I do not want Green Attic to do any additional work at my home. I believe I am entitled to a full refund, however, I will accept a refund of $1,420.25.

    Counter-Proposal: issue a refund of 50%, $1,420.25

Thank you for the additional comments and for outlining your concerns in more detail.

We understand and appreciate that the main reason for this project was to address rim joist sealing in your garage. As noted, you spoke with the same salesperson you previously worked with, and we sincerely regret any miscommunication or mismatch in expectations from that conversation. Your experience and satisfaction are important to us.

While our proposal did mention sealing the rim joist where possible, our current insulation methoddense-pack cellulosehas been proven effective in minimizing air infiltration, often eliminating the need for additional foam sealing. The ceiling cavities were fully filled with insulation, which achieves excellent thermal and air resistance performance. That said, we acknowledge the quote language did not reflect our internal shift in practice, and we take full responsibility for not updating the wording accordingly.

We respectfully decline the request for a 50% refund. As per our terms and conditions, Green Attic reserves the right to inspect and correct any issues before offering financial remedies, and we do not reimburse for third-party work. Additionally, the contract entitles us to compensation for the percentage of work completed. In this case, over 95% of the work was completed, with the only item in question being the air sealing at the rim joist. By effectiveness, the job is 100% complete due to full cavity fill and thermal performance.

Our $400 refund offer is twice the internal cost of completing the air sealing work, and was made in good faith to resolve the situation amicably. We believe this offer is more than fair under the circumstances, especially since we remain willing to return and complete the sealing at no cost.

While we regret that our offer did not meet your expectations, we must respectfully decline the counteroffer of a $1,420.25 refund.

Thank you again for your feedback and for the opportunity to respond.
    Sincerely,
    Green Attic **************** Team

I am rejecting this response because the business has acknowledged that, despite the fact that it no longer uses foam to air seal joists in finished areas, the quote it provided me stated that it would seal the joists if possible. It was possible, Green Attic simply did not intend to do that work. Had I known that Green Attic had no intention of sealing the joists, I would not have hired Green Attic for this job.

I'm having a major problem getting anyone from this company to respond to me. ******* came for the inspection and then ********* reached out with the quote for a two-day job. On the first day of the job, ********* contacted me and said they forgot to add $1000 for insulation removal. Fine. After the second day where blown-in insulation came through the ceiling and walls of a room, the guys doing the job told me that the solar fan and mushroom vents would be installed 'later'. I paid for the entire job (including a $200 fee for using a credit card) and have heard nothing since. I have no idea when the job will be finished and the dust keeps coming through the ceiling and walls. I responded to several 'job complete' emails and received pre-written responses. I've texted ********* and *******. Nothing. The job was performed on February 5 and 6 and today is the 21st. I had what I thought was a respiratory illness the past week and a half, but now I understand it's the dust pouring through the walls (and all over expensive electronics) in the room I work. This is a total nightmare.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We understand your frustration and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

Regarding the unfinished work on the roof, our team was unable to complete the installation of the solar fan and mushroom vents due to unsafe winter conditions. For safety reasons, roof work must be rescheduled when conditions improve. We completed it successfully and safe.

As for the insulation, we use non-toxic and non-allergenic materials. After air sealing and adding a thick layer of insulation, there is typically less air movement than before. However, if dust is entering the living space, we are happy to investigate further to ensure everything is properly sealed.

In terms of payment, we understand the concern about the credit card processing fee. Our estimates and terms and conditions clearly outline this fee. Additionally, we provide in-house financing at 0% interest as an alternative payment option.

We take customer satisfaction seriously and want to resolve any remaining concerns. Please contact me directly if you have any more questions.

    Better Business Bureau:

This response is pathetic. The main issue was the lack of communication, not the weather on the day. As for the fee, saying that there's a 'policy' doesn't mean anything. I have a policy too: take responsibility for your failings as an owner and manager. The dust is still coming through the walls one month later. This is documented.

I accept this case as closed because I want nothing more to do with this person and their lack of professionalism.

    Sincerely,

I recently hired Green Attic Insulation to improve the insulation in my home, with a focus on a room located above my garage. The Green Attic team visited my property, inspected the premises, and provided a quote. During this consultation, they assured me that their work would significantly improve the ambient temperature in the targeted room. A notable factor in my decision to proceed with Green Attic was the inclusion of a mold warranty, which was emphasized in the quote.Once the work commenced, the crew began cutting holes in the walls and initiating the installation. However, partway through the project, I received a call from the companys office informing me that the mold warranty was now void. They stated that they could not install a necessary fan due to the type of roof (cedar shake) on my home. My roof type was clearly visible and unchanged from the initial inspection, and this issue should have been identified and addressed before the work began. This situation appears to be a classic bait-and-switch tactic. After the project was completed, I observed no noticeable improvement in the temperature or overall insulation in the targeted room, despite their initial claims. Concerned about the lack of results, I attempted multiple follow-ups with the company. Their responses were either non-existent or unhelpful. Eventually, they sent a service technician who merely handed me a thermal camera and asked me to inspect the property myself rather than conducting a proper ************* repeated attempts to contact and resolve these issues with the initial salesperson, have not led to any meaningful solutions. I am filing this complaint because Green Attic Insulation has failed to deliver on their promises, rescinded a critical warranty under questionable circumstances, and has not provided adequate customer service or remediation to address the unsatisfactory results of their work.

We understand your concerns and appreciate the opportunity to address them.

Please note that we installed insulation in your home as outlined in the contract. Additionally, your project is covered by a warranty that includes a limited lifetime warranty on materials from the manufacturer, as well as a workmanship and mold warranty valid for up to **************************************************************** the industry, covering both labor and materials.

Regarding the performance of the insulation, it is important to understand that insulation is designed to retain existing heat. While proper insulation minimizes heat loss and improves energy efficiency, its effectiveness depends on other factors, such as adequate ductwork, a functioning heating system, and proper airflow to the targeted area. If the ductwork is undersized, there is a lack of return airflow, or the furnace is too far from the room, the heating system may struggle to supply sufficient heat, which insulation alone cannot address.

We assure you that we completed our part of the contract with the goal of reducing heat loss and improving comfort in your home. If there are any additional steps we can take to assist, please let us know, and we will be happy to work with you to address any outstanding issues.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Hello ***********************!

    Thanks for your feedback.
As per your request, we insulate only the part of the house you accept to do. You will get better results if you will insulate the entire attic, including the rooms above the garage, we understand that your home is over 10k sqft and you didn't wanna insulate all at once.
After the entire roof is insulated, you will see a bigger difference.
Heat will still escape true less resistant areas.
Insulating only half won't have a high impact since the heat can escape through the other side.
    Thank you!

We hired Green Attic to install the solar fan on the attic and demold. *********** sent out *********************** to do the estimate on May 2, he diagnosed and gave us the first quote *****, we trust him and approved the quote, We paid 50% $4,366 of the first quote. Later they found out master bathroom has mold and need to tear down the drywall and demold, so they sent out another quote ***** and increased the reroute the fan from $500 to $2000, the reason is they need to hire an electrician, the cost is $250/hour. The other day three people showed up, they are Green Attic crew and one of them said they were the electrician. Long story short, I found out they were lying and confirmed with the company that none of those people were electricians. I am not satisfied with this company because:1. Lack of professional licensing to perform what says in the contract.2. Fraud, employees lies to the customer announced they are licensed.3. Delayed my project to send the crew who can not do the job as quoted.A. I am asking to wave $2,000 charge and hire a electrician to finish the job without charging me.. It's their penalty by not doing business honest. At this minute, they agree to wave $2,000. But I need BBB's help to enforce it.B $2,000 dollars by hanging the drywall to my master room bath, it needs to be done professionally, since it's the safety issue, *********** has a tendency to charge customer the professional cost and hire cheaper labors who does not know what they are doing. ***** promise to finish all the jobs by Wednesday May 24.
