    In May 2023, Better Business Bureau questioned Kloss Furniture’s website, www.klossfurniture.com, which stated:

    According to BBB Code of Advertising, “When using the term “warranty” or “guarantee” in product advertising, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details of the warranty can be seen prior to sale at the advertiser's location, viewed on the advertiser’s website or, in the case of mail or telephone order sales, made available free on written request.”

     

    The BBB Code of Advertising also states, “Superlative statements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertiser must possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards or tests. As statements of fact, such claims, like “#1 in new car sales in the city,” can be proved or disproved.”

    In addition, BBB’s Code of Advertising states, “Despite an advertiser's best efforts to ascertain competitive prices, the rapidity with which prices fluctuate and the difficulty of determining prices of all sellers at all times preclude an absolute knowledge of the truth of unqualified underselling/lowest price claims. Advertisers must have proper substantiation for all claims prior to dissemination. Unqualified underselling claims must be avoided. Advertisers can lessen the potential for consumer confusion by appropriate qualifications to any underselling/lowest price claim, such as by stating, if truthful, that the advertiser will meet or beat a lower price.

    Additionally, BBB Code of Advertising also states, “Made in USA” and similar terms used to describe the origin of a product must be truthful and substantiated. An advertiser must not express or imply that a product or product line is exclusively “Made in USA” unless all or virtually all of the product is made in the U.S. All significant parts and processing that go into the product must be of U.S. origin. That is, the product should contain no — or negligible — foreign content.”

    BBB asked the business to modify, substantiate or discontinue its advertising claims.  The business responded, but was unwilling to substantiate, modify or remove the claims.

      Purchased mattress and box springs on 1-10-24 for *******. It was the floor model with a no return. Upon delivery and set up all looked alright. That night we noticed the mattress has a lump right down the middle of the mattress. It is so bad that you will fall out of bed and my wife did a few days later because of the ridge down the middle being higher. I contacted their customer care and told them about the problem only to be told they could not do nothing. We are both 74 years old and on Social Security and feel taken advantage of. I have not had a good nights sleep since day one of the delivery.

      My wife and I were in the *************** Kloss furniture store today to look for a Sofa and loveseat. We found them, they had a price tag of $2349 for both. We told the salesperson **** we would this set in a different color. That would be an extra $100. That was fine with us.we picked out the new color. Also we upgraded the cushions for an extra $125. Delivery fee$199. Total of $2773 . When **** finally came back with the price it Totaled $3900?? When I confronted him with the difference he went to ask the store manager about our situation. **** came back and said his manager said they can do $3400. The reason they said of the price difference is we are ordering a new color fabric and not buying the ones on the floor. At no point did our salesperson **** mention any of this. No sale was completed. Talking to the Store Manager was no help either . He said it was a markdown. They have an outlet side of the store, but it was not in that section. I would like them to honor their price as marked on their price tag.
