I am writing to report a suspected phishing scheme involving CCB Credit Services, Inc., located at **** ****** **** ****** ***** ***** ************ ** *****. The company claims to be a debt collector acting on behalf of ****** ********, an electric utility provider. However, I do not have any outstanding accounts with ****** ********.

My previous accounts with ****** ******** were in Mattoon, Illinois, from 2017 to 2018, and in Greenville, Illinois, from 2018 to September 2024. During both periods, I paid all bills promptly and maintained comprehensive financial records containing all invoices/bills, as well as payments provided. At no such point was there a bill or invoice that was unpaid. After both accounts were closed, respectively, I received no further bills from ******, making it impossible for any legitimate debt to exist since they would have exhausted their collection efforts before engaging the services of a legitimate collector.

The letter from CCB Credit Services alleges an outstanding balance, which I believe to be a phishing attempt to fraudulently obtain funds. Given that I have no outstanding debt with ****** and have not received any bills since my accounts were closed, I am confident that this is a scam. Additionally, CCB Credit Services has a B- rating with the Better Business Bureau, indicating potential issues with tliefr business practices.

I respectfully request that your offices investigate this matter to prevent potential harm to myself and others. I have attached a copy of the letter from CCB Credit Services for your reference.

Thank you for your attention to this serious issue. I am available to provide any further information or documentation as needed.

      Business Response

      Date: 01/31/2025

      To Whom it may concern,

Mr. ******* had an account for ****** ******** placed in our office on January 9th, 2025.  In accordance with federal and state law Mr. ******* was mailed an initial validation notice as required by the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA).  That letter advised Mr. ******* of the steps needed to dispute or validate the debt.  We have received from the consumer the same letter attached with his complaint to the BBB.  We can assure Mr. ******* that the notice is not a Phishing attempt, and we have taken the following steps regarding his complaint.

      1. The account has been placed in a disputed status

      2. All collection activity has ceased

      3. ****** ******** has been provided a copy of the dispute

      4. We have requested Validation from ****** of the debt provided to us

      5.  There has been no negative reporting information provided to the Bureaus

Once we receive validation from ****** ******** we will provide it to Mr. ******* for review.  ****** ******** bills consumers for service in arrears and at times this in confusing and causes disputes or has consumers asking additional questions after they relocate. We have not spoken or had any communications with Mr. ******* at this point, but his letter reflects him living in Greenville, Illinois and that is the service address listed on the account.  Again, we will forward all information we receive from ****** to Mr. ******* and hope this alleviates his concerns.

      Sincerely,

      Compliance Department

      CCB Credit Services Inc.
