If I could give this Insurance a negative 5 star I would without hesitation. They’re insured hit our vehicle, the driver was 100% at fault and almost 8 months later we are still trying to settle. Then again when the adjuster doesn’t believe in returning calls or replying to emails what I one expect. I’ve dealt with several insurances and this has been the worst experience ever. Take my word. Go find another insurance to deal with. One that actually cares to deal in a professional manner. Not trying to rip you off.Review from Valarie M

From the beginning, I loved Horace Mann's insurance. It was cheaper and easier to use than my old company. That all changed a few days ago. I have automatic withdrawal to pay my bill. This month I noticed that the money was still sitting in my account. Weird, but they have taken it out late before and there was no way I was going to pay it and then have them take it out and "double-dip". They had done it before and it was a mess. Anyway, I received a letter on Saturday 2/24/24. It says it was sent out on 2/16/24 and that I had not paid my premium. Okay, some context here my bill is due on the 15 of every month. The letter stated that if I did not have it paid by 12:01 am on 2/14/24 it would be cancelled. #1 How can you cancel it when it isn't due until the 15th? #2 You sent this letter out on the 16th. #3 I didn't get it until the 24th. It then goes on to say that if it is not paid by the 26th it will be cancelled completely. So I message my agent, and he says he will look into it and get back to me. Well, Monday comes around and he says that he inquired and was told that my bank declined the payment. Now the only way that happened is if they did it before 7 am because my paycheck hits at 7:01 am. Okay, fine I'll go pay it. At 3:15 pm I call to pay my bill. I have been told that as of 12:01 am, I am no longer insured and it will now be $737 a month because I lapsed. Why did no one call me when the card was declined? Why did no one email me when the card was declined? No, they sent out a letter a day after it was due. Even my agent said they were supposed to inform him and they didn't. I have never been so livid in my whole life. They are out to screw you over as much as possible. Stear clear of them. Everyone at my school will be hearing about this incident and I am sure a lot of my fellow staff will be switching (which by the way, I found insurance for $100 a month cheaper than them).Review from Kristy D

I have been with Horace Mann for over 30 years. I have three houses and two cars insured with them. But then I had to make two claims in one year for one house (hail damage and a busted sewer line). I had only made one other claim in the 30 years. They paid out the claims but then decided not to renew my insurance on that house. I had never heard of such a thing. I was really disappointed after having 30 years of good experience, now I have to shop for a new insurance company.Review from Kara P

Worst insurance company I have ever dealt with!! Their insured ran a stop sign & hit me and I can never get in touch with the adjuster. I have sent emails & left messages, and he does not return them. Very disappointing. I have called the main number to get answers and the representative's that answers the phones are very rude. It's been 7 days since the accident, and I have not heard anything, nor have they done anything for me. My vehicle is not drivable, so I have been without a vehicle.Review from Joey N

I went with this insurance company because of the teacher association they had. However, the first claim I filed with them, and my first claim ever, was denied for ridiculous reasons. I had a water leak that occurred, but as they stated it should have been caught sooner. Even though I did not know of the water leak until I saw the damage to the bamboo floor. They worded it so it sounded as if it could have been prevented, but I can promise you that is not how it happened. You pay an enormous amount of money, and when a catastrophe happens, you would expect your insurance company to help. NOT HORACE MANN!! The absolute worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. I will be canceling the policy and finding someone that is willing to work for their money.Review from Ruth N

I am sorry for those who have had issues collecting from Horace Mann. I have had two major claims this year, within months of each other. One was for a VERY large tree branch totaling my car in my driveway. I got over $10,000. I did not check to see how this would compare with other agencies. I just know I paid $11,000 in 2016, so the settlement made me very happy. The other claim was for a roof. A VERY large branch pierced my roof in one place (two different storms, two different trees). I thought they would cover a patch, or at most that particular roof (that roof was for an addition on the back of the house). Instead they gave covered all the roofs (there are 2 roofs, both with 2 sides, so basically 4 roofs) and the total cost will be $13,000. Taking into account my $1500 deductible, I am very happy with the settlement.Review from Cristina B

We’ve had three issues arise with our home in the last seven years. Two of them were from one particularly strong hurricane. Horace Mann found out sus around covering absolutely anything. The fence was knocked down by a HURRICANE, they claimed it was due to the age of the fence. A fence which was structurally sound along three sides. That same hurricane also caused damage to our roof. We had it inspected by a roofer and by the insurance- big surprise the assessments were complete opposites. You can see several spots where the roof has bubbles and several shingles that are raised. Horace Mann claimed a hurricane couldn’t have done those things. Now we’ve had our above ground pool collapse because we had such bad rain storms that it overfilled. They have just told me that overfilling from rain is not weather related. They claim to be in the business of helping and protecting teachers….but they leave us hanging at every turn. Lesson learned.Review from Elizabeth Y

I just want to share a warning for policy holders that may cancel. Make sure they completely cancel your policy. My first call was to cancel. I was not given information about how it would affect the auto draft. The second call was because the auto draft happened anyway, and then I was informed why it happened. The third was because I got a small ($4) reimbursement check for the auto policy I canceled. I was told the other $150+ was applied to the next auto draft. Train the employees better please on how to cancel a policy and give the customer ALL the information the first time to avoid customer frustration.Review from Danielle D

I'm not sure the experience everyone else had at their locations but I have had nothing but good experiences with them. When I had to have a car towed I was covered for up to 250 dollars and the people for roadside were going to make me pay 75 out of pocket cuz they said I was only covered for 150.When I got horrace mann on the phone and merged them in with roadside assistance they fought for me to not have to pay out of pocket In the end I didn't pay anything because horrace mann fought with them on my behalf. They should however contract with another roadside assistance that's better. But other than that their customer service is superb.Review from Janet C

As a teacher please do not choose Horace Mann for your 403b accounts. They were a fine company to deal with when I was investing. Now that I am retired and I want to move my money to another company they are making it practically impossible. It has been six weeks and I have been told twice that they have not received my completed request forms, except when I went to my local person in **** ****** **, I was told they had the forms but were missing signatures. So the forms were resubmitted with the signatures and again Horace Mann said they didn't receive them. Then I was told the paperwork was expired and had to be redone. When dealing with the local representative I got the feeling they were done with me and there was no reason to help me. Now my account at Horace Mann is closed but the new company has not received the funds. Where is my money? If Horace Mann sent it snail mail I wonder why. All around VERY frustrating.
