I have bought the vehicle back in 2022. It is a white 2013 Chrysler 200. I have got the vehicle from Car Mart. February of 2023 my cosigner then went into the bankruptcy. When I went to make a payment to car mart they informed me that since he went into bankruptcy my vehicle went too. So as I attempted to make 3 more payments afterwards not knowing how bankruptcy works they refused my payments. Forward to 9 months later without a call, or email, or anything of sort to inform me that the paper that was sent to car mart from bankruptcy was a paper stating it was NOT in the bankruptcy, they took my vehicle without any knowledge of why they were taking it at 6:30pm at a dollar general. They arrived in a dark van (that was not company printed) and proceeded to enter dollar general to intimidate a lady that was not me to give them the keys to the Chrysler outside. I wasn’t informed that she was trying to reach me until a worker at the dollar general informed me they were looking for a female with my name and the description of the vehicle. I then proceeded to go outside and ask what is going on and she said she couldn’t disclose any information with me and that they need the keys to my vehicle. I kept asking why and she would not give any type of paperwork or information. Not only did I lose my vehicle without knowledge of reason but I was embarrassed To the public and felt threatened due to the approach she did. Very unprofessional and very sad that I am losing my ability to take children and myself to the places that are mandatory for us to continue our everyday life.Initial Complaint

I bought a car from America’s car mart last year in June of 2023. Almost two months, not even two, I had to take the vehicle in for transmission failure. They were pretty easy going about this and replaced it. Despite the fact that it took them over a month of having my car and when I got it back it was even worse and had the check engine light on. Took it back in and it took them another two weeks to fix that issue. They didn’t disclose with me what the issue was. Fast forward to February this year, alternator, starter and battery all failed. Replaced those myself because my warranty didn’t cover those “normal wear” items. Started having issues with the vehicle feeling like it was braking on its own or slowing down dramatically after taking my foot off the gas. Was told I need to replace the front passenger wheel bearing and outer tie rod. I take it in again after replacing that because the issue was still there. Now my mechanic says I need my entire suspension and steering replaced due to corrosion and rust that is so severe my personal mechanic declares the vehicle unsafe to drive, oh and it’s $11,000 worth of damage and needs replaced. All of it. From the entire brake assembly, the rear differential ($900 used for the part), the rear subframe, shocks, struts, bushings, I mean all of it. I take that diagnostic to car mart (I have said diagnostic) and the manager tells me I need to replace all of the bearings if I replace one. (Not true, and my mechanic confirmed this) not to mention bearings are covered on my warranty. Non stop issues. My car has been with my mechanic now for two weeks because within the 11k diagnostic and last week, it started idling rough and trying to die. Battery is brand new. Alternator is new and I’m told it’s now looking like my car may have been in a flood before I purchased it. The corrosion and rust is identical to flood damage they've seen before. I was dealt an unsafe lemon and it could have killed my or my son at any point.Customer response

I purchased a 14000.00 vehicle from them over 2 years ago. I have paid right at 10000.00 on the vehicle through their financer **** ** ********. I became unemployed through no fault of my own the 3rd Wednesday of October. I informed the business of this, and pleaded for help. I was able to make a payment November 3rd. The vehicle was current through an arrangement. On November 10, I went to *** ********* ******** in Evansville to visit my ailing 81 year old father, on the 3rd day he had been admitted. Car Mart of Evansville tracked my car through G.P.S., and repossessed my vehicle at the hospital. I live in ************, Kentucky. 46 miles away. I was forced to go back into the hospital room to my already upset family, and pretend everything was OK. I was able to get a ride to the United Caring Homeless Shelter in downtown Evansville. There was a long line, and I was not able to get a bed. With temperatures approaching 35 degrees, I was able to contact a friend who let me spend the night. Car Marts stated policy for repossession is they send a letter a day after you miss your payment. I received no letter. Then they will visit your address to make arrangement for payment. I received no visit. Their policy further states you have 40 days before repossession can occur. The repossessed my vehicle 8 days after my payment.Initial Complaint

I bought a vehicle from this company recently and recently tried to trade it and found out because of all the accidents the vehicle has incurred its only worth $2000 and I paid $19000 plus fees and now they have had my car for multiple days to tell me that the issue is the battery and they will not replace the battery in the meantime I've been waiting 7 days on Monday and I need my car for work, as I am self employed and up until now have had a great working relationship but now they say they won't put a battery in the car, which is sole means of work and have already missed a week of work and 1 job interview that would not involve my vehicle. I would appreciate any help you can provide.....you can call me at...**************Initial Complaint

I purchased a 2013 dodge challenger from car mart in January of 2022. The car has been in and out of the shop since I bought this car for overheating. I have 2 receipts from parts that were changed on it due to overheating. Took back down to car mart before Thanksgiving and they had my car for over 2 weeks due to putting a new motor in it and I get it back and it still over heats. Now here it is almost Christmas and I'm without a car again for the holidays because it sat at their mechanic shop for over a week and now they supposedly took it to ********** ***** and when I called ********** ***** they said they don't have a car from car mart. But the manager said ********** ***** said it will take a week and a half to even look at it. All I want is my money back and I will go somewhere else because I'm not gonna be put in another car that I don't want. I have been making my payments every 2 weeks for a car that I can't even drive. I have been patient but I have to pay someone to get me to and from work plus pay for a car that I can't drive and insurance on a car that I can't drive.Initial Complaint

Bought a car 10/22/22 the same night we bought the car the check engine light came on. Called them and they said to get a diagnostic and email it to them since we are from out of town. After emailing them the diagnostic from auto zone they said it had to be a printed diagnostic. Not only does an official diagnostic cost $200-300 but it has to be done within the 7 day grace period. All the local shops couldn't get us in within the 7 days. Now 3 weeks later we're having to pay $600+ to completely repair the oil leak. They claim the cars are inspected but yet The oil problem was very easily found by the mechanic which means Car-Mart doesn't do any check ups prior to selling "as is". It's a shame they are taking advantage of people by selling overpriced junk cars.Business response

Business Response Taken via phone by *** ******** ****** ****** said that all complaints need to be sent to their legal department. She said that they have been in contact with the customer, and they are waiting for her to bring the vehicle in for servicing. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) The business has agreed to service the vehicle and fix the service engine warning. We are awaiting the ability to transfer the car back to Evansville. No other issues at this time.
