Sometime in the late summer of 2022, my wife and I decided to purchase two Janus Halcyon 250s. We built them online using Janus' online bike builder, confirmed our orders over the telephone and via email and paid our deposits. By October, our new motorcycles were being delivered to our door. From the first contact with the folks at Janus, we have been met with friendly, passionate ********************** and we couldn't be happier with our investments. We see our purchases as being just that- investments into an ******** company, as well as investments into our personal motorcycling enjoyment. The bikes function exactly as promised and any kind of warranty issues that we've experienced have been dealt with quickly, professionally and in a very friendly way. We love the personal touch and, we love that these motorcycles are such a joy to ride. They are well built, beautifully designed and bring a smile to our faces every time we ride them (or even look at them). The company is based in ***************** and they invite anyone to stop by and see what they do and how they do it. They are very transparent in their business and manufacturing practices and as such, have instilled a tremendous amount of confidence in their company.

I bought the Halcyon 250 in late 2022. The bike wouldn't start. Finally got it started (there was about an ounce of gas in the tank when it was delivered). I took it for a ride and it stalled at every stop sign. Turned out the carburetor was tuned as low as possible (to pass EPA inspection). Adjusted the carburetor with a special screwdriver I bought on Amazon. Had to turn the idle to 2,500 rpms to keep the bike from stalling. Came out one morning a month later and found the battery dead. Had a Janus technician come out and install a new battery and check the carburetor. Took about a month for him to come my way in NY. The next day, the second battery was dead. Had Janus send me another one. Turned out Janus bought a bad batch of batteries from a company called EarthX. Got the bike running but the stalling continued. With about 70 miles on the bike, the rear tire deflated for no apparent reason. Was quite difficult to change. Next time I rode, my right peg snapped off. About 2 weeks later, the left peg broke off. I began to complain on the Janus Owners Group website about the quality of the bike. With a cult like atmosphere, I was attacked without mercy. Then I was blocked by the administrators. The following month, an inattentive driver knocked me off the bike and broke my shoulder. It was almost impossible to find a repair shop that would work on the bike as Janus has not published any repair manual and very few mechanics will touch it. Waited months for Janus to send the shop the needed repair parts. After getting the bike back, I tried to rejoin the owner's group, but was denied admission without explanation. I wanted to relay my experiences. The bike can barely top 40 mph. Very dangerous in traffic. The lack of rear suspension makes the bike terrible to ride. The slightest bump is a full kick in the rear end. After buying a Royal Enfield, I couldn't believe how horrible the Janus was by comparison. Costr 10K for this piece of junk.

Janus Motorcycles are assembled in ******* using internal combustion engines sourced from ***** for their 250 line and other international suppliers. Body is built in ***. They are stunning looking and attention grabbing wherever you go with them. But, theres the rub! Getting somewhere. The motorcycles are rated by the maker in their manual as for commuting and, their business model is based on you doing all the maintenance. That includes wiring harness and connections. They are pleasant and attentive on the phone and quick to send parts under their warranty. But if you need service and dont live in Goshen ******* they will make arrangements for you to take it to a repair shop on their dime. Not repair shops they know. Just repair shops they ****** and call in your general geographic area. Electrical failures and lousy clutches seem to haunt many owners based on my own experience and discussion boards and owners group postings. If you are not super mechanically inclined and equipped, this IS NOT a bike for you. Tubed tires and short circuits have to be dealt with on the road so you will need way more tools than one small tool roll and NO local dealer network for AAA to take you to.
