1 starRenting from FirstKey homes has been a nightmare. The feel is youre the homeowner with a much higher payment due than what the mortgage would be and you still do everything that a homeowner does besides pay property taxes (Im sure these will eventually be a line item renters pay too). This house has been a maintenance nightmare from the beginning. When we moved in, the garage door was not operational and it took them over a month to come out and check it. Fast forward a few months to one of our our toilets constantly running and they said it was our responsibility. After I had another issue and finally spoke to our assigned property manager, she said oh no thats something we would definitely take care of. Then why was it denied up front? Our area recently had a tornado come through and we lost power. First key homes doesnt consider it a maintenance emergency until youre without power for 12 hours but around the 11 hour **** our sump pump stopped working and our basement was flooded where we have a lot of our contents stored away since were moving the first chance we get. Renters insurance doesnt cover it because it was failure of structure and *** says theyre not covering it because its renters contents. So now were stuck filtering through items that are moldy and wet still probably ground a $10k loss. Then we found out the dryer vents were not probably screened by *** and we have birds in our attic, which they say is also something we have to take care of on our own. So another $500 down the drain. Besides that they are very difficult to get in touch with, youre directed to the 1800 # for everything and no one knows whats going on or can help at that level. I requested several callbacks by management/leadership to discuss my concerns and all they do is send emails letting us know any concern we bring to them is ours to tend to and pay for. Our experience has been so poor, were considering taking legal action against ***. AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!!Review fromSheree A

1 starDo not rent from this company i repeat do not rent from this company extremely horrible they include all your utilities in with your rent and if you don't have all the money they won't except none of it,in addition to that they did nothing about the leaking ceiling when it rained or the fact there was no where to keep my lawnmower so they suggested i pay someone to cut my grass and on top of the year of horror during my lease agreement the loud neighbors played music all night even during the work ******** that my lease is finally over there trying to recover 3200 for clean up and damages to the property but lucky for me i took pictures so ill be taking them to court instead.Review fromKody N

1 star25 work orders 20 days moved in so far 8 work orders fixed Every time we call for a update we get met with hostility or straight up rudeness House wasnt cleaned prior to move in **** communicate directly with maintenance Emergency work orders arent emergency they have ***** hours to respond Our septic tank wasnt cleaned before we moved in, our prior members who were in the house before us used flushable wipes, this caused our lines to get clogged and water to come out of the bathroom 6 hours with literal s*** on our floors and the best they could do was give me a very aggressive update -400/100 on customer service This place has already made me and my wife look for other agencies to either rent or buy property F*** first key homesReview fromYvonde W

2 starsI have rented now for 3.5 years. Maintenance is great! **************** is useless. The rent is overprice. Overall my biggest complaint is what I am being charged for electricity. While i understand that energy costs continue to increase, with Firstkey you have no control over managing the cost. Because the billing is not in your name, you don't get meter readings. They charge you whatever they decide. I live in **** which is a deregulated state and I should be able to choose my own energy provider. Because it is not in my name, I am not allowed to exercise this right. The energy company is not allowed to speak with me. I have reached out to First Key numerous times, but have not received any explanation. My house is one of the smallest on the block, yet my energy bill is always higher. I keep my thermostat below the recommended amount to try to save, but that doesn't help because the meter isn't read and the amount charged is decided by First Key. Their protocol is to divide the cost arbitrarily among all their renters. I would suggest renting from a private owner versus a rental company.Review fromDanny M

1 starTerrible Move in Move out Experience. When moving in they called with needed documents and deposits all with little notice and the time to complete was miniscule. I had to break my lease after 10 months, i was fine paying the fee and all would have been good. I made requests to schedule the move out inspection every week leading up to my move out date with no response, despite not having a number to call and their form saying they'd call to schedule the appointment i was told by the move out specialist it was my responsibility to schedule "she rudely pointed to the document saying theyd call to schedule like it proved i was at fault" they ended up doing the inspection without me present and tried to charge me 15 dollars for tub flowers that are shown on their move in documents. they also tried to charge me for 3 days of rent that would have occured 6-8 days after i vacated the house and double charged for utilities. All in all they tried to charge an additional 640 dollars over the amount i actually owed and were impossible to contact to get these fixedReview fromMichael B

1 starAbsolutely the worst management company imaginable. The only decent part is the maintenance department (thats the only positive ****** reviews). The payment center overcharges and takes months to correct it. Overcharged is significantly, admitted we were being overcharged, and has yet to fix it after calling daily for two months. Cant even get an email or a call back from the property manager to schedule our move out inspection. Were being highly overcharged and nothing is getting done. *****************************, the property manager is a horrible person and doesnt care that she is ruining peoples financial stability.Review fromLakeisha R

1 starIf I could give zero I would. They have poor customer service never fix anything. For as much money as they charge for rent it should always be working heat. It took them three months to fix the **** system until I threatened not to pay rent then they finally sent a vendor to my home and said I needed a whole new system. The guys that they have fixing on the house arent qualified to do anything and lie say they fix stuff thats not fix. First key home is the worst company I have ever dealt with. 1 starIf I could rate this. Company with a zero I would. I rented a house from ***** Key in *********, **. Like others here saying thier experiences were bad, so was mine. I have rented all over the country and First Key has been the worst! No communication, lack of response on maintenance requests, and way too much rent. My mast bath shower started leaking properly half way through the lease and I had to stop using it when I discovered it right after Christmas. It leaked through a closet wall and soaked some blankets. It left mold and terrible smell for weeks. We decided we weren't staying and moved 4 months later and the shower still wasn't fixed. Then they deducted almost $900. from my deposit for all kinds of things. I fought them, and got minimal response. If you think you want to rent from this company, RUN!!Review fromAmanda L

1 starAbsolutely horrible customer service and communication. On top of that just another company that doesnt care about anything but their money. Have lived in the house for two years now, with unaddressed MOLD issues and other water damage. If they do respond, maintenance just puts a bandaid on the repair. The property is an absolute disaster and First Keys doesnt care to fix their property. Our mailbox rotted and fell apart and they attempted to charge us for the damage. Now, were attempting to break the lease a MONTH early because we bought a home and they are requesting ****+ be paid to break the lease for the remainder of 1 month and 28 days. DOUBLE THE AMOUNT TO JUST PAY THE RENT. DO NOT RECOMMEND FIRST KEYS TO ANYONE, EVER! WORST PROPERTY RENTAL COMPANY WEVE EVER EXPERIENCED.Review fromCalvin H

1 starWe have leased from this company for many years now. We have rarely made any maintenance requests because I am very handy and do most routine repairs myself. It is disappointing to report that resident maintenance requests go un responded to for many weeks, even months. Our fence literally fell over on it's side and we have been begging for over a month to have it fixed. We pay pet rent but cannot use our back yard due to the conditions. Twice now they have sent us emails saying the issue has been satisfactorily resolved when nobody has even ever called us. I have spent endless phone calls wit their Indian call center. Trying to talk to a local person is extraordinarily difficult. In fact. the call center tells you they have no contact information for the local office. They tell you that the best they can do is "escalate" the request. After several "escalations" no one has even responded.
