A $14,500 Oil change!!!! When does a simple oil change at Duke of Oil Palatine, end up costing $14,500? When service staff does not properly secure the drain plug, drain plug falls out, and leaves your engine without any oil! Yes, this happened to our car after having an oil change at the ******** IL location. Our car became totally disabled and while the engine was shut off quickly - it was too late. The damage was done. Our car was towed to a dealership service department for inspection and diagnosis - and confirmed that the drain plug was not present, oil found all over the bottom of the chassis, and dip stick dry.Our attempts to have Duke of Oil stand by its service/product and cover the cost of the damage have resulted in no resolution. In fact, Duke of Oil personnel hid behind their corporate executives -- and did not even have decency to follow up with the service manager at the dealership or inspect the car themselves -- and instead verbally blamed the service department for failure. Really?Buyer beware! This staff made a serious error and while errors can happen, its reasonable to expect a company as large as Duke of Oil to stand by their service.Initial Complaint

We had a lot of service done at the Duke of Oil In *****************. On 10/10/24 they did an oil change and almost 3 days later we brought the car back due to the car leaking oil. They told us that they did not do anything and redid the oil change and sent us on our way. Upon arriving home the car was still leaking oil and we brought the car into the dealership. They confirmed that the oil filter housing was leaking from being over torqued. Having the supporting documents we would like a refund or for our repair to be taken care of. This is the second time we have used them while up in ******** and will not go back to them again.Business Response

I go to the ******* ******* location on *****************. while waiting in line inside the car, my wife and I are approached by a team member who gets the car information and I ask if they give military discounts. Im told yes on oil changes. After pulling in and they go over the options, we chose the full synthetic oil change like we always get and while they looked into a deal for two new filters I asked about the discount and Was told they dont honor veterans with discounts. After pointing out the person who told us yes, the manager stood his ground on the discount instead of honoring what we were told. He offered a six dollar discount after all the back and forth with no apology from him nor the employee who gave us false information. I get home to check the receipt just to find that they gave us the wrong oil. They gave us full synthetic 5w20 instead of 5w30. Weve used the 5w30 since we purchased the car in 2018. I actually called *** who said it should be okay just dont go back them because they could be putting anything in there and the only real way is to drain it and check it in a lab. Im a first time customer and last. In no way was any of the employees especially the manager professional to me nor my wife. A discount in any form isnt great if they give you the wrong product. I was going to back out when the said no to the discount but they had drained the oil before I even picked a plan. You never make a choice about a customers vehicle when the customer can make it themselves. The *** told them everything they needed to know about our vehicle and if they were had w20 or w30 let us make that choice. You dont take that choice out of our hands. You dont be proactive by draining oil before the purchase is agreed on. Hire a manager who has customer service skills and knows how to manage. Just do betterBusiness Response

I took my car to Duke of oil in October and got a oil change which was 83 dollars and I left then had to come back because they forgot to reset my oil life and change my sticker out (red flag) a week or so later my car went out and I had to have it towed to a shop in which they told me that there was no oil inside of my car which almost tore up my engine and cost me a whole car which is my only transportation. I called corporate and they did nothing ! That explains the one star they have. I want my money back I dont have money to just be giving people for them to scam me.Business Response

In April of 2023 (close to the end of April) I went to this Oil place called Duke of Oil on ******* in ******* **. I barely drove my car as I was out of town. On June 1st 2023 while driving my car started making a loud noise. I drove it to the body shop to find out that my undercarriage cover that has to be removed every time I have an oil change was missing. The mechanic then advised that if I recent got an oil change they did not s**** the cover in tight enough or at all. This cause a huge issue where my coolant reservoir ended up cracking then fall out which was being drugged causing an issue with my engine where my car almost overheated. This repair was ****** after paying ***** for an oil changed. I called the location and was told the manager was on vacation. I have attached copies of when my car was in the shop before the oil change and when its in the shop after the oil changed. Also I attached the oil change paperwork as they did not advise me on anything that they said they advised me on. This was a terrible experience as I have come there many times before but this particular time my services were rushed.
