This is very hard to write. My father died on March 13, 2023. His funeral arrangements and those of my mother, who died 12 years prior, were prepaid and handled by ****** ***** Funeral Home in **************, ** (*************************). The arrangements were that they would be cremated and buried together in ONE grave. My mother's remains were stored at the funeral home. As per the contract, the only costs that were not prepaid were (1) the obituary; and (2) the grave opening fee. At the time of the original contract, the grave opening fee was $300 (which was prepaid); it has now risen to $700. The *********************** Director told me that the cemetery officials can charge whatever they want. Therefore I should owe about $400. However, because my mother's remains are also in the urn, the cemetery officials charged $1400 (less the $300 already paid) for two grave openings, despite the fact that there is actually only one grave opening. Please look into this for me. I should not be paying for two grave openings, and other bereaved family members are undoubtedly being charged in this way as well. I would like a refund and a change of policy. The attached letter shows my correspondence regarding the charges, and the bill is also attached.
