Recently we were approved for warranty claim regarding the shingles on our roof. I have requested multiple times to get a duplicate copy of the paperwork to turn into the contractor installing the roof (***********) and have gotten no response besides some vague emails. I have even given them permission to speak with my boyfriend Brandon ******** whom also lives in the home to handle this and he has not heard anything as well. I am concerned that by not hearing back from Tamko the one year warranty is going to expire and we will not get our roof replaced as it should be.Business response

When I went to sell my prior home at *******************, **************************, the inspector called in a roofer to say my roof was done 4 years prior with a defective Tamko shingle. I called my roofer to confirm this, **************. They pulled sample shingles and took pictures. I was told this was all that was needed. But two months later, we closed on the house and I was required to put money in escrow as the new roof had not yet been approved. In the meantime, I have called Zack at Tamko warranty about the processing of my claim #*******. They now claim they need to do their own inspection and the inspector goes all over the country so they cannot give me a date. I believe they are hoping to run out the date of my escrow so that they are off the hook. This is unfair practice. My escrow is Feb 8 2022.Business response

In 2017 we purchased a new construction home with the Tamko shingle on the house. We did not have a choice of Brand Shingle. After 3.5 years the shingle was deemed defective. The Labor rate that Tamko has allowed is no where near what it would cost to have the shingle replaced. I will have to incur an $********* hit to replace their Defective Shingle. The reason is they do not cover the removal of the defective shingle. They do not cover the disposal of the defective shingle. If I didn't have their defective shingle on the roof i would not incur the cost of removal and disposal at all at this point. Definitely not very customer oriented care at all. When you ask to appeal there warranty settlement decision, you get there are no avenues to alter or change the settlement. I ask to speak with a supervisor and always there is not one available. This must be the playbook, basically tell the "homeowner to go pound sand" without actually saying it!Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/11/16) */ In light of Mr. ******* claim, TAMKO reached out to its local representative who checked the current labor rate for ************* (minus the cost of tear-off, removal and disposal - which is excluded under the terms of the limited warranty). Mr. ****** labor rate offered on May 27, 2021 is still consistent with the current labor rate in *********. Mr. ****** may want to shop around to find a contractor with a more competitive labor rate in *********. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/11/17) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) There response in not acceptable. The problem is their warranty and the quality of their product. To expect a customer to have to pay anything toward the replacement of a 3.5 year old roof that is warranted for 25 to 30 years is ubsurd. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2021/11/24) */ TAMKO provides a limited warranty as part of the original sale of TAMKO shingles that provides a remedy in case of manufacturing defects which directly cause leaks. This limited warranty is available online, in brochures and is printed on every package of TAMKO shingles so homeowners (and their contractors) can read the language of the limited warranty as they consider which brand of shingles to buy. The limited warranty clearly states how claims are administered and this claim was administered in accordance with the limited warranty.
