We have a new house and it appeared that the our roof was defective we had a roofer come out to look and he agreed. We contacted Tamko following the claim process to the tee. Then we waited for there results (which took a little over 3 months and they sent us a check to replace the roof. I wanted to commend Tamko for standing by the warranty they have on their roofing products, it was refreshing and appreciated to experience it. We wanted to thank and give codas to Tamko and all the staff who spent the time to evaluate our claim and stand behind their product. The new roof will be a Tamko product. Thank you again from the *********TAMKO Building Products, LLC

Our home was built in 2007 and our highly reputable builder had a professional roofer install Tamko Heritage 40-year warranty shingles. Last fall, in conjunction with obtaining a new homeowners’ insurance policy, our roof was inspected and defects in the shingles were found that went way beyond normal wear and tear. Given that the roof was only 14 years old and the roof gave a 40-year warranty from Tamko, we submitted a claim, which required us to follow an elaborate process and have our builder’s professional roofer climb back on the roof more than once to photos and obtain samples of the shingles to satisfy the Tamko warranty claim requirements. Tamko quickly and summarily rejected our claim, but offered a laughably small sum to settle our claims. A new roof will cost tens of thousands of dollars. Tamko cynically offered a 40-year warranty knowing that it would induce our builder and us to purchase their shingles, which were defective and inferior. I am
considering joining the Class Action against Tamko for their misleading and fraudulent warranty or the performance of their roofing materials. I would never use their products again and neither would my builder.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO Building Products LLC provides a limited warranty to purchasers of its shingles as part of the original product sale. This limited warranty outlines the available remedy in the event a manufacturing defect directly causes the shingles to fail in their primary function of shedding water. and it is made readily accessible for review before and after installation.
The limited warranty is printed on every package of TAMKO shingles, available at tamko.com, and is also distributed through authorized suppliers. This ensures homeowners, contractors, and retailers can review and compare warranty terms when deciding which brand of shingles best suits their needs.
It’s important to note that the duration of a limited warranty is not a guarantee of a product's lifespan. How long shingles will last can vary significantly depending on several environmental and situational factors, including geographic location, weather patterns, UV exposure, pollution, and debris accumulation. Because these factors differ from one structure to another, it is not possible to predict precisely how long any individual roof system will last.
For shingles installed in November 2006, as is the case in this complaint, the applicable limited warranty included a Full Start Period of seven (7) years. During that period, TAMKO provides both replacement shingles and reasonable installation labor costs (excluding tear-off and disposal). After the Full Start Period expires, the warranty offers prorated shingle replacement only, based on the number of months the shingles were in service compared to the overall warranty term.
In this case, the shingles were installed in November 2006, and the claim was filed on February 14, 2025—well beyond the expiration of the Full Start Period in November 2013. Additionally, the homeowner acknowledged that the roof was not leaking at the time of the claim. Despite this, TAMKO reviewed the claim in good faith and offered a prorated shingle replacement consistent with the limited warranty’s terms. The proration reflects the 219 months of service the shingles provided prior to the claim.
TAMKO stands by its products and strives to treat all homeowners fairly and consistently. All claims are administered according to the terms of the applicable limited warranty to ensure a balanced and transparent process for all customers.Review fromMary L

We filed a Warranty Claim with Tamko and it was denied.
We have lived in and owned multiple homes over the years. We have never experienced this kind of excessive shedding of gravel (filling and blocking our gutters,) balding of shingles, curling of shingles, splitting of shingles and blackening of the siding that butts up to the shingles.
We followed through with each and every request made by their "Warranty Services" team to no avail. We
had our roofer drive out (an hour and 15 minutes each way) to the house, to remove and replace 2 full shingles for analysis/evaluation. We had to pay him for his time/service and now we have two mismatched shingles and a company not willing to stand by their product.
We thought Tamko was a reputable and upstanding company back when we made this purchase. After our early communications with them, we researched the internet including the BBB. We came to realize our concerns were far from unique and Tamko's "cookie cutter lawyer generated responses" were the routine and to be expected. Their typical "loophole" of customers not being the original owner and not transferring the warranty in a timely fashion didn't work with us since we ARE the original owners. Therefore their only response is if the roof is not currently leaking, there is no problem. Stay away from Tamko!!
We would think that a reputable shingle manufacturer with an effective and customer sensitive Quality Control Division would have a technician come out to the house to inspect suspected faulty materials in person. Instead, Tamko asks the customer to go on a "wild goose chase" to prove the point knowing full well they have no intention of standing by their materials and honoring a "30 year warranty."
It is obvious that we are going to have to replace our roof in the near future and much sooner than the promised 30-year time frame from our roofer. We now have a very poor opinion of the Tamko company and its horrible customer service and warranty policy.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO follows the applicable limited warranty is associated with the purchase of the shingles in every claim which provides a remedy in the event of a manufacturing issue which leads to leaks. To this end, TAMKO reviews photographs and shingle samples provided by the homeowner making the claim just as we did for this homeowner. After reviewing the shingle samples and the photographs, we found this homeowner's 19-year-old shingles do not exhibit any manufacturing issues and are weathering as expected and will continue to protect the house for years to come.Review fromJennifer C

Mishandling of Warranty Claim, Unreasonable Delay, and Ongoing Property Damage
Complaint Description:
This complaint concerns Tamko Building Products’ failure to adequately resolve a roofing issue related to defective shingles previously installed on our home.
In our initial claim, a Tamko inspector visited our property, collected samples of the shingles, and confirmed that the product was defective. Tamko subsequently paid to have the defective shingles sealed, as they had failed to self-seal as designed. However, despite this corrective action, the previously sealed shingles are now lifting, resulting in roof leaks and interior damage to our home.
We contacted Tamko to inform them that the issue has worsened, but they have refused to reopen the original claim. Instead, they are requiring that we initiate a completely new claim. Furthermore, we have been advised that Tamko does not currently have an inspector in our area, and it may take an additional six to eight (6–8) weeks before anyone contacts us to even schedule an inspection.
This extended delay is unacceptable, particularly considering the known defect in the original product and the existing damage already documented. Continued postponement will lead to further deterioration, including damage to structural components such as the roof deck, ceiling, and personal belongings.
We find Tamko’s handling of this matter unsatisfactory and unreasonable. The refusal to reopen the original claim, combined with the lack of urgency and support, is causing ongoing hardship and financial risk to us as homeowners.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO handles all of its claims in accordance with the limited warranty and a remedy of the limited warranty is to repair any issue caused by a manufacturing issue that leads to leaks. Hand-sealing shingles that have failed to seal down is an industry recognized procedure to remedy the situation. We are continuing to work with you to see why the hand seal did not work.Review fromVictoria D

2nd owner of a house— had no idea that this “warranty” had to be transferred within 30 days sell of the house. Granules from the shingles are EVERYWHERE around the house on a house that is 7 years old. Disgusting that TAMKO doesn’t stand behind their products. Do not recommend.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

Like most manufacturers who provide a long-term limited warranty, TAMKO has limitations on the transferability of the limited warranty. TAMKO provides a limited warranty as part of the original sale of TAMKO shingles that provides a remedy in case of manufacturing defects which directly cause leaks. This limited warranty is printed on every package of TAMKO shingles so homeowners (and their contractors) can read the language of the limited warranty as they consider which brand of shingles to buy.
Notice of TAMKO’s limitation of the transferability (including the requirement to request the transfer within 30 days of the closing date) is conspicuously printed on the top of the limited warranty. TAMKO’s rationale for the limitation of the transfer of the limited warranty, in part, is based on the fact that subsequent owners of a home have the opportunity to inspect the home (and its component parts such as shingles), negotiate the purchase price, and make subjective adjustments to the price based upon the home’s structural condition, market conditions, and various other factors. Specifically, a subsequent owner has the opportunity to inspect the roof and take any issues into account as part of the negotiation of the price of the home. It is part of the due diligence process in the purchase of a house that requires the purchaser to assume that responsibility and risk. (TAMKO obviously is not a party to such negotiations, does not know whether any adjustments to the purchase price should have been made or were in fact made due to the condition of the roof, and cannot determine if the subsequent homeowner negotiated a fair and reasonable purchase price for the home.) Therefore, TAMKO has chosen to provide a limited warranty that limits the transferability which is conspicuously printed on every bundle of TAMKO shingles and is also available online at Tamko.comReview fromSylvia R

We replaced our total roof in May 2016 with Tamko shingles. The shingles are plagued by design flaws and have a 30 year-limited warranty for their product. We were seeking a claim for the following reasons because of all the encounters we have dealt with.
This is a list of problems:
1.Shingles started wrinkling on different sections throughout the roof.
2.The roofing company came out and replaced the wrinkling shingles, same lot number as needed but now we have a roof with 2 different colors of shingles.
3.Since we submitted samples as requested, Tamko say they need 3 quotes from a contractor to come and get estimate on sealing treatment on the shingles/roof.
We do not agree and do not want our roof with the sealing treatment. Preferably get the roof shingles with same color overall the roof.
I don't understand why the Tamko Product is out in the market. As a customer, we would like to see Tamko compensate the consumer with defective shingles and cease from engaging in further deceptive advertising, marketing and sales practices.

TAMKO provides a limited warranty to purchasers of TAMKO shingles as part of the original sales transaction which provides a remedy to the purchaser in the event TAMKO shingles have a manufacturing defect directly resulting in leaks. Many manufacturers of consumer goods offer a limited warranty on its products and the consumer is free (if they so choose) read the limited warranty prior to making the purchase. TAMKO prints its limited warranty on every package of TAMKO shingles it manufactures, has it available online at Tamko.com and provides printed versions that are available through distributors, so homeowners (as well as retailers and contractors) have the opportunity to read and compare our limited warranty to others as they consider which brand of shingles to buy. TAMKO does not honor their warranty. My mother died from COVID 1 year after the roof was installed and because her estate did not transfer the warranty within 30 days of her death, there is nothing I can do as the child that inherited the home. They are treating it like I purchased the home. They will find any way to get out of standing by their "warranty".TAMKO Building Products, LLC

Making exceptions for one individual by allowing more favorable treatment is a disservice to those TAMKO customers whose claims are administered in accordance with the limited warranty.Review fromAnthony B

6 year old roof that is delaminating with significant granule loss and they are not providing a warranty on the shingles. They are disavowing themselves of responsibility because I didn't switch the warranty into my name within 30 days of buying the house. They do not stand behind their products and do not honor their warranty!!!!. Very simple and cheap fix for their shingles that after a few years are black and covered with algae.. but they wanted me (70 year old single women) to remove shingles and mail them..to prove they were their product and the algae was covered. They knew it was their product.. just were not going to cover it or treat the problem.Stear clear of this company!!!TAMKO Building Products, LLC

When a claim is initiated with TAMKO, TAMKO sends a claim kit and written instructions to the homeowner which states that A ROOFING PROFESSIONAL should be retained to remove two full shingle samples and take photographs of any potential issue present. The shingles samples are used by TAMKO to 1) confirm the shingles from the roof are indeed TAMKO shingles and; 2) check for manufacturing issues on the shingles. If a manufacturing issue is found and a remedy is provided under the terms of the limited warranty, TAMKO provides $200 as reimbursement to pay the roofing contractor who removed the shingle samples and replace the removed shingles with new shingles to maintain the water shedding ability of the roof. As a 20yr contractor had an obvious curly shingle on the entire roof, filled a claim they came out and told the homeowner it was a bad install but couldn't say how as long as it wasn't problem, this company will not stand behind there products, don't be a victim way to many other good products out there.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO provides a limited warranty to purchasers of TAMKO shingles as part of the original sales transaction which provides a remedy to the purchaser in the event TAMKO shingles have a manufacturing defect directly resulting in leaks. The limited warranty does not cover issues that the manufacturer cannot control including damage caused by extreme weather, improperly installed shingles, poor workmanship during the installation of the shingles, etc. It is important that homeowners find a qualified and experienced roofing contractor who they can trust to install their roof properly within industry standards and in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions.
