Midwest Energy is advertising one amount for the electric energy charge, but charging their customers a higher amount. I followed Midwest Energy's complaint process which was advertised in the April 2024 issue of Current Comments. I have contacted Justin MacDonald by emailing him and also met him in person to discuss my concerns. He has tried to be helpful but I still don't agree with his responses. I have emailed Pat Parke, CEO received no response from him. I have emailed Dale Unruh twice, the chair of the Board of Directors no response from him. I even checked with Justin MacDonald if I had the correct email for Dale Unruh. I did, so my concern now is why didn't he respond? Midwest Energy is advertising the energy charge to be $0.064 in 2024, 0.053 in 2025, 0.042 in 2026. Midwest Energy is currently charging their customers $0.064558 for 2024 Justin MacDonald referred this as pennies every month. I let Justin MacDonald know if you figure all of your customers it's in the thousand of dollars. In a Midwest Energy brochure, In a Midwest Energy January 2024 Current Comment Newsletter, On a post on Midwest Energy's facebook page, and another internet article they ALL show that the electric energy charge to be 6.4 cents in 2024, 5.3 cents in 2025, and 4.2 cents in 2026. No where does it let the customers know that these are approximate or estimated figures. As a customer I thought these amounts were what Midwest Energy would be using. So where does Midwest Energy get they can charge 6.4558? If they can charge this amount then I believe Midwest Energy needs to let their customers know. I believe they should put a correction in the Current Comments newsletter that is sent out with the billing statement to their customers. It should state that their was an error/mistake on the electric energy charge and now they are correcting the information. Now I'll wait and see if I get a response and see if Midwest Energy corrects their mistake. Thanks, Curtis W****

Thank you for your note. When we conducted communications on demand rates, our intent was to inform customers on the many details of the rate change in as succinct a way as possible. We opted to present the energy charge to the first decimal as that most closely resembles how people think about dollars and cents. Taking the energy charge out to its fifth decimal point – one ten-thousandth of a penny - is not the way most people comprehend dollars and cents, so we opted for simplicity. For most customers the difference between the third decimal point and the sixth decimal point on the energy charge equates to pennies a month. However, in full pricing transparency, our tariff sheets (available online at www.mwenergy.com) always show the full numbers, which you correctly note is $.064558 for 2024. We’re sorry if this created any confusion.
