Unifiedlife is a total scam They charged $294.96 monthly and they pay out NOTHING. I have paid out $781.20 so far to have a plantars wart removed. This policy does not cover surgical procedures, so what good is the policy. That is not what they tell you. Everything is covered except maternity and mental health, not true. I don't want anything but them to cancel the policy. Tried that today and they kept telling me to resubmit the paperwork and then hanging up. Tried calling back and no one would answer. I just want to let other people know about this company. Try calling around to find a doctor that takes the plan was a joke too. That should of been my first clue.Business Response

I was laid off in September of 2022. I lost my employer-sponsored health insurance in December of 2022. I purchased a Multiplan PPO limited benefit plan in January of 2023. It's affiliated with *********** and the National Congress of Employers Health Discount Programs. I requested to receive the details and terms of my plan in writing and was told that I could not receive them in writing until February 14. In the meantime, I needed medication refills that my previous insurance provider, ****** **********, had wrongfully terminated before leaving the country on February 21. I needed a doctor to reinstate my prescriptions. So, I found an in-network doctor, an hour away from where I live. I went to that appointment on February 8. I was asked to pay $50 for the visit. On March 6, 2023, they send me an explanation of benefits from *********** saying that I owe an additional $817. They offer an explanation: "date of service after provider's Network PPO termination date." However, this is false. In fact, they confirmed over the phone that I did not terminate my plan until Feb 20 after I requested it on Feb 16. And I have it in writing in an email confirmation from them. I've tried calling and I get the run-around. I'm told to talk to Claims at *********** and then to Member Services at Multiplan, only to be turned back to ***********. In talking to customer service at Multiplan, a representative said that I could not go to a doctor's office visit for the first 30 days after purchasing my plan. No one told me this. This isn't a reason code they provide. In fact, upon purchasing this plan, I was told "you can start using this plan tomorrow." I would not have purchased this plan if I had known about the 30-day moratorium because I needed prescription refills before Feb 21. I was misled and the Multiplan PPO plan was misrepresented. I should not be responsible for this $817 bill. Also, the facility I went to, UCSF internal medicine located in Petaluma, CA, is in-network.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: There is a conflict of interest. Unified is conducting its own internal investigation. Of course, they are not going to hold themselves accountable. That is why I've reach out to an objective third-party, the BBB.

The only number for cancelling service hangs up every time I call. I have been calling different numbers for this company and they have no avenue for cancelling service. I cancelled the credit card they were charging so they have no way to get my money anymore, but I think it is criminal that I cannot cancel service. I do not want to see this affect my credit score and I want to document that I have tried to cancel a service they refuse to correspond with me about. I also emailed them and used the 'contact us' on their website with no answer.Business Response

We changed our minds because they said we could still be charged at the end of the year for not having insurance. We cancelled or have been trying to cancel since the first week we signed up. They said we could cancel before 30 days and we would be able to get a refund and now they won't give us our money back.Business Response

We were promised Health Insurance, effective November 1, 2022. We asked for a Benefits package explaining our coverage, and they said they would send it in the mail. Never received it. Asked again for them to send it, and did not receive it. We explained that we didn't want to go to the Doctor, not knowing what we were covered for. They responded with, "Just go to the Doctor, we cover that. Don't worry about it, just go and we cover it." So, we now have the cost of the so-called Insurance, that has not covered any of our services that we received from the Doctors. We've spent approximately $1,500.00 for NOTHING! We were lied to and never provided anything that we requested to explain this fraudulent company! We were lied to and spent money that we can not afford. We want our money refunded from this company. When they do answer the phone, they transfer you to someone else that knows nothing and then they transfer you again, and no one ever answers questions .Business Response

I was purchasing health insurance through this the child company: Your Agent Information: ********** ***** ******* ********* ********** of UNIFIED LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY **** *** ***** ******** ***** ** ********** 1-800-237-4463 I was told by the agent that this was health insurance but it doesn't cover drug treatment. I am not looking for drug treatment. After all was processed I asked if this does the same as regular insurance which they said it does. It seems this does not count under federal healthcare laws and is illegal in many states as it is seen as defrauding the public.Business Response

Was told I was covered for my doctor and eye physicians. Ill make this simple. I sent my fax as directed which was never found so they never created a claim for the 7,000 I had to have emergency eye surgery for a detached retina and if I would not have been lucky enough to have just enough savings to pay cash for my operation to save my vision I would now be blind none eye thanks to Unified Life. Have tried as everyone else to contact one million times, hung up, told to call another in an endless loop of nightmarish phone calls spending so much wasted time. I have decided to contact a lawyer and will provide the names listed on the BBB's page as the contact information which includes the top management of the company. Will also be calling NBC to see if they are willing to do a story since I see this company has been scamming people since 2001?!! I can only imagine how much has been lost to this non insurance company. I will make this my sole purpose for the year 2023 because the insurance industry in the USA is a disaster and I want as many people to know as possible so maybe they will be forced to pay retribution to all the suckers like me!!Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: No-one has reached out to contact me as of yet, only received a generic reply that resolves nothing so far, their investigation may or may not be a response to me, but I do not agree until something concrete has been done. This company is ruining peoples lives daily and has been in business for 30 plus years of scamming redirecting and failing to provide anything to their clients. They are simply stealing money and telling lies to everyone they encounter and I WILL NOT let this continue.

The business claims to offer prescription coverage, in reality they offer a third party consearge (I have misspelled this) service for medications which prevents secondary insurance from covering medication costs. I am now, 6 months post policy cancellation, unable to make contact with anyone within the company who is able/willing to assist with my situation. Their automated system simply hangs up on you and when you call back, it is the same thing over and over. Reaching out online is also a futile attempt to make contact. Leaving message via phone is also proving to be useless. Bottom line, the claims they made about the policy coverage are fraudulent and they are selling a product that they do not provide! Any assistance you can provide me will be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your assistance.Business Response

I was ordered by a ******* County family court judge to purchase health insurance for my two boys, ages 2 and 6. I spent several hours shopping hoping to find a fair and reasonable price. I came across the company,*** ****** *********, who on their website even claim to be a Health Insurance Company. I spoke to one of their company service representatives who seemed to be very willing to help, not too pushy, and genuine. I made it very clear to this CSR what I needed, and why I needed it. In fact, I made sure to say it over and over, to repeat my needs, and make it very clear that I needed health insurance for my two boys as ORDERED by a judge. The CSR acknowledged this several times; even using the words and terms ‘Health Insurance’, ‘medical insurance’ ‘insurance coverage’. Long story short, I had to learn the hard way that they are not an insurance company but a discount company. The one thing in life I do not accept is someone trying to mess, harm, do injustice, hurt or cheat my family, and even more so when it comes to my two boys. So for the last 4 months I, as well as the family court judge, have been under the assumption that my boys were covered. I even submitted proof to the judge showing they were. However, this was all false, make believe and misrepresented. I intend to contact and report this fraudulent behavior to as many people and consumer protection agencies as possible. I have informed my judge of this untrue and deceitful company and he has been kind to provide me with a few contacts that may further assist me. Like I said, mess with me, try to cheat me, fine. But allow me to pay for services where I feel my children have an insurance that they actually do not, is beyond wrong. What if? What if in that time, something unfortunate did actually happen?
