1/31/25 I had my **** *** ******** towed to Kia, tow was $175, it was not firing on the 3rd cylinder, it is a 4 cylinder! It was shaking all over! About a year and half ago I took my SUV to them, there was no oil showing on the dip stick. They told me to drive it 1,000 miles then bring it back and I did. Then they told me I had to put oil in it. There was a lawsuit over bad engines on the 2012-2014 Sorrento there is metal in the oil. I have a life time warranty on the engine. Donovan in service told me the warranty does not cover the cylinders but he said I need my engine replaced. They knew my engine needed to be replaced a year and a half ago, that is why they are telling me it needs it now! I am a widow, I lost my husband last year. I need my SUV! Then they called me and told me to have it towed because they were going to charge me daily! Another tow bill for $185Customer Answer

I took my vehicle to Kia in Florence, Ky. They told me I would have to pay for the engine $6,749 , they told me the top of engine is not covered. The bottom is, they told me I had to put oil in it because when I took it to them a year and half ago. There was no oil showing. I have a life time engine warranty from a settlement others brought against Kia. I called another number at the Kia office, they told me the same thing! My Kia was made here in USA.Business Response

I know the news that we recently gave you about needing your engine replaced was not something you wanted to hear. I also understand that all of this can be very confusing regarding what Kia America's warranty extensions will and will not cover. I also am aware of the class action lawsuit involving Kia America and their engine issues and how that can add to the confusion. My goal is to hopefully clear this up as much as possible with the information that is available to us at Jake Sweeney Automotive. After reviewing your service file, I can verify that at your most recent visit, you filed a complaint stating that the Check Engine Light was on and that your vehicle was misfiring. We diagnosed and determined that the engine was in fact misfiring due to a burned exhaust valve in the upper portion of the engine cylinder head or what is also called the valvetrain. The most cost effective way to fix this problem taking into account your high mileage, is to replace the engine. You also mentioned that you had complaints in the past about excessive oil consumption as well. After researching your service file further, I found that your first documented complaint regarding excessive oil consumption was filed on 9/23/20 at 141,841 miles. At that mileage, the factory warranty that Kia America provided you had long expired. The extended warranty that you purchased from Jake Sweeney Automotive had also long expired. This also holds true for your most recent concern with the burned valve as well. At this point, the only type of coverage you have at all is the warranty extension that Kia America is providing your vehicle regarding lower engine connecting rod failure. The guidelines for this warranty extension are very specific and only covers a failure to the piston connecting rods in the lower end of the crankcase and engine block. Your vehicle is not exhibiting this exact failure therefore there is no coverage available to you unfortunately. Again, I understand that this is news you do not want to hear but I don't believe we at Jake Sweeney Automotive did anything wrong. I would direct you to Kia America's Corporate Consumer Affairs Department at 1-800-333-4542 for any other questions you may have regarding why your particular issues is not covered by them.
Thank you,
Tony D*****

Kia has not resolved any issue, I wanted them to replace my engine at their cost. ******* ****** a customer of theirs who bought Kia from them. She had the same problem I do and they replaced her engine. Is their prejudice here? she gave me permission to use her name! She is my friends daughter. She was upset that they did not do me right. I believe Kia does not want to replace engines anymore, even though I have a lifetime warranty on my engine.Initial Complaint

Jake Sweeney Kia Pulled 3 Hard credits within 10 min- then proceeded to give a pay here offer of “Take my ‘21kia K5. - with 45k miles ($19500) on it+ 500 dollars a month for 72 months” for a used car valued at 35k. According to my credit report they pulled ******* motors, ******* *** and One other on a Sunday afternoon. - They only showed me their buy here pay here offer. Once I started to leave “a new offer magically appeared- even though they said I wasn’t approved- for $ my car +375. A month. They did severe damage to my credit score wiping 90 points off in one day. My guess is they did their own hard pulls first - so I wouldn’t get approved for *******. . Now I can’t get a rate over 17%. In one day my credit went from 692 to 602 because of this ! It won’t fall off for two years. I will be without a car for two years because of them.Initial Complaint

I purchased a car on February 14, 2025 and I was up so an extended warranty. I reviewed the contract details on the warranty and it stated that have 60 days to cancel and get a full refund. I I was called multiple times per day many days in a row to sign the extended warranty contract and I advised the finance manager that Idid not want to sign it because I did not want it and he told me that I had to sign it and then after I the contract, he would get the money back to me and cancel it. Now it’s been over a week and there has been radio silence on the finance managers and he has not returned any of my phonecalls. He has not returned any of my emails and he has not returned any of my text messages. All I want is to confirm that extended warranty is canceled and all I want is my money back that is it.Business Response

I just bought a new Telluride at Jake Sweeney Kia in KY this month. We had an agreed upon price for the vehicle set at $49,500 plus tax. I put $16,500 down on the vehicle and financed through Kia Finance at a 5.75% interest rate. This was our agreed total and the denied anything extra including protections, coverages, and warranties. Without my knowledge they added on EPAP (exterior paint protection) coverage. They did not discuss this when signing paperwork and it was not disclosed that an extra $1,999 would be added on to the price of my vehicle. I did not find this out until after the fact when they sent my paperwork in the mail. I denied any extra coverage multiple times to both the salesman and finance manager and they deceived me. I have called multiple times trying to get this problem fixed and they said it is a required add on cost to all vehicles. I argued that it should clearly be disclosed when discussing the sale price of a car beforehand as I drove 4 hours from *********** ** to get this specific car. Not to mention I just bought the same brand new vehicle back in August at a different dealership and was not required to pay for that coverage with them. Therefore, I know they cannot force me to pay for it. They did not do anything extra to my car while I was at the dealership. The car sat out front the entire time and they are arguing that they put the protection on all of the vehicles as soon as they hit the lot. This is all a big scam to get more money and it should be illegal to add any extra amount of money that is not clearly disclosed to the buyer. They barely explained any of the paperwork when having us sign and nothing was said about the extra $1,999 that I would be required to pay. The dealership is trying to pull one over on their customers and it’s wrong. It says multiple places online that dealerships are not allowed to require a buyer to pay for EPAP coverage, not to mention there is no proof that this was even applied to the car I bought.Business Response

Purchased **** **** ******** 2/19/24. Next Day Oil Pump had to be replaced (they did). Had 30 day warranty - a few weeks later (2) the transmission was jerking. Took it back - J Sweeney said nothing wrong (20 mins) got worse Took it back again. Austin said not a big deal -He stated you've got an extended warranty (which does not cover everything). My complaint is I took the vehicle within the 30 day warranty with Jake Sweeney to be replaced. So now that warranty is expired, I went got a Quote from another Garage. My extended warranty does not cover everything, so I have to pay up to $700 out of pocket. Where is Jake Sweeney fixed it under their warranty, but seems they intentionally put me off til warranty expired.Business Response

BBB,
I appreciate the BBB for being a valuable and efficient partner in helping our clients mediate when needed. The BBB serves as a good medium for both clients and businesses to address issues that arise.
In this particular situation, our service department inspected the vehicle and did not recommend any action as they could not verify the customer’s complaint or replicate the concern. As the customer stated, we have already addressed other issues as a courtesy.
All Jake Sweeney used vehicles are sold AS-IS unless they have a balance of factory warranty. There is no 30-day warranty on any used vehicle sold at Jake Sweeney Kia. The aftermarket warranty that was purchased does cover some transmission-related components, but without knowing what the third-party repair shop asked the warranty company to cover, it’s impossible to address that part of this complaint.
If this client would like to schedule a service appointment with our service department, they are more than welcome to do so.
With warm regards,

shopped online, online gave one price. so i spoke with the sales manager Dane, and per Dane he would not honor the price they had it listed for on their website. They marked it up 3,000 dollars and also they pulled my credit knowing the price i was expecting, i sent the salesman pictures of price they had online. Complete waste of time and points on my credit for absolutely no reason.Business Response

Jake Sweeney Automotive is sorry to hear this client has had a difficult time with the issues expressed. We make every effort to inform the consumer of the best price possible. The Pricing on New vehicles can include manufacturer rebates incentives and financing offers. Not all customers will qualify for those incentives. The sweeney website Clearly states on every vehicle page the following. "While we make every effort to ensure the data listed here is correct, there may be instances where some of the factory rebates, incentives, options or vehicle features may be listed incorrectly as we get data from multiple data sources. Please make sure to confirm the details of this vehicle (such as what factory rebates you may or may not qualify for) with the dealer to ensure its accuracy. The estimated selling price that appears is for informational purposes only. You may not qualify for all incentives, discounts, offers or financing options. We invite you to contact us for details concerning expiration and other restrictions. For more information please contact our ******** *** Dealership."If this customer needs further assistance in determining prices don't hesitate to have them reach out to me.

1. when you sale something and advertise it at that price and speak with a customer who is interested in said item and then pull their credit to buy said purchase and then Come back with a 7k higher price is not right. I would like my credit fixed. I did not buy the car, I do not want the points on my credit for checking it. I was under the impression of one set price and was told completely different. It is absolutely 100 percent their responsibility to have correct advertisement. I feel saddened that they have chosen to not take responsibility by pretty much stating (they get their sources elsewhere) It is their prices on their website! They should not outsource this. On their Google reviews it states that I am not the first person with this issue from this business.

In 2019 I bought a certified used ******* from **** ***** Kia in Cincinnati. I was told with it being certified, I retain the 10 year/10,000 miles powertrain warranty. I even purchased the bumper to bumper 10 year/10,000 warranty made available to me. A couple weeks ago, we noticed an oil spot in our driveway. I checked the oil and it was still reading within the operating levels. I took it to Jake Sweeney Kia, where I always have the service done, and they said the oil pan was leaking. They replaced it and charged me over $600. I asked why it wasn’t covered under my warranty and they said the warranty doesn’t cover that. I called **** ***** Kia, where I purchased it, and they confirmed it should have been covered. I called Jake Sweeney back and they still maintained it wasn’t covered.Customer Answer

Hello *** *****,
As you had mentioned, when you purchased your vehicle from **** *****, they also sold you an extended contract through a company called *********. I did contact that company today and verified that one of my service advisors had contacted that company and tried to file a claim with them regarding your oil pan leak but they did deny coverage stating that this particular repair was not covered under your contract with them. After further investigation, I did find that an additional level of coverage was also sold to you by Wyler with a company called ****. I contacted them today and they stated that there could be possible coverage through them for the oil pan repair. However, since the repair has already been completed, they stated that you would need to contact them to seek possible reimbursement. Their number is ###-###-####. I would suggest that you first call them and start that process and please let me know if you need anything additional from me.
Thank you,

My mother and I cosigned on a used car for me at the end of July this year. Last Tuesday it broke down and I had to get a tow to a mechanic that was available because Jake Sweeney was booked solid till end of November. My job was on the line and my livelihood. We bought the highest warranties Jake Sweeney offered....They refuse to cover it! They can't do anything but offer 250 dollars on repairs for a car that was sold less than six months ago, when I got the bill at another place that is CHEAPER it's still over 1700 dollars for a car that's 9,500 with a 3000 dollar warranty. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!!! I LOST MY JOB BECAUSE OF THIS BECAUSE I WAS LABELED A NO CALL EVEN THOUGH I DID!!!. I have tried to be pleasant throughout this and I feel they took advantage of me being disabled and my mother being elderly. The car had no buyer's guide, had literally just been put on the lot and hadn't even been cleaned. I doubt it was checked by a mechanic at all! The catalytic converter and exhaust manifold are in need of replacing and it burns oil horrendously. This is pure neglectful behavior and it costed me my livelihood.Customer Answer
Date: 11/12/2023
My name is also on the title underneath my mother's name. I do not understand why I cannot file this for both me and my almost 60 year old mother about a company that took advantage of us. If I have to help her file so be it, but the fact still remains that the car is faulty and they took advantage of us needing a vehicle for me to use for medical and work transportation. The car hadn't even been cleaned prior to us looking at it and we had gotten this vehicle under good faith that the dealership was doing right by us. Upon further research I have found out that they have taken advantage of other ****** members as well. All I'm wanting is my car to be repaired and back to driving considering I am still paying for the loan. Thank you.Customer Answer

The warranty doesn't cover the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter. We had to pay out 1717 dollars to get the part replaced. I had the car LESS than 6 months (I double checked so it's not my math that is wrong, it's THEIRS). I now cannot afford the car payments and the insurance on the car. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost. Ernie's did a magnificent job AND gave me a warranty on the part, unlike Jake Sweeney. The fact that Jake Sweeneys mechanic told me I'd be better off somewhere else says volumes.Business Response

Even though the car was sold AS-IS and Jake Sweeney does not need to make an exception. We will reimburse $1717.00 to the client as a gesture of goodwill.
