We think this is very excessive. We can provide pictures of the before and after. We thought about $800. He charged us $1,760 for Trex when we told him two times in his office that we wanted to use Trex. He says the architect plans say treated lumber. We think after telling him two times he should have made sure it was used. Credits: On my original request I asked for a $2,500 credit for installing granite countertops on the island and kitchen cabinets. He said that was too much. I requested $3,000 for painting the kitchen cabinets. He said that was not included as part of the job. We asked for a $2,000 credit for a plumber we chose, and he told us it was okay. We used ours because he could not get a plumber to get the work done on a timely basis. He wants us to pay the electrician for installing all the canned lights in the kitchen. We paid for the canned lights. My initial adjustments the bill from the original $102,000 to $95,710. We met and discussed. Then next morning I put together a proposal that we would pay him $102,000. $7,000 is he signed a paper saying he agreed to it and the final $5,000 he is owed in two weeks. He said that was not agreeable and made no counterproposal and just told us he was contacting his attorney and filing a lien. In my counterproposal I lowered the credit for countertop installation to $2,000 and the plumber to $1,375. I increased the doorway widening to $2,400 and the front porch rails to $1,500.
