I recently purchased a vehicle from this business that is trying to scam us out of our money because we are young and have bad credit. We purchased a vehicle about one week ago. On the first night we owned the car, we noticed the steering wheel was shaking and we wanted to use the promised “warranty” to check it out and make sure everything was okay. We got snowed in. We finally took the car to a mechanic to check it out. He quoted over 3,000 to repair damage to a car we have had for a week….. all four control arms are almost broken. we call the warranty number they tell us it’s not covered that we have to pay for it ourself. the control arm damage constitutes the car not being suitable for driving!!! Not only did this business put my family’s life in danger, they are unwilling to make it right. We asked to return the car and receive our $2000 down payment back due to the amount of carelessness this business has shown for us as customers but also for other people on the road! The complete disregard for safety is the reason so many people die in car accidents. But hey! They are more worried about keeping that down payment ! To make it “right” Autumn said we could return the car, continue making the car payments and they will keep the down payment ??. Of course they have a huge “NO REFUND” sign posted in the lobby but that should be for a WORKING, SAFE VEHICLE. They say they allow you to “test drive” and “have a personal mechanic check it out” before purchasing but NEVER ONCE was that told to us, in fact they gave us the test driving route and said that’s the option we have to take. We also was not allowed to read the scamming documents ****** made us sign as a “contract” but instead was read to us to make them look good. I can’t believe we fell for this scam. Be aware, they make it seem like a good story but they are crooks. The behavior is completely unacceptable the condition of the car should have been disclosed prior to purchase but they just want sales.Business Response

We are sorry you are unhappy, but want to clear up some misinformation in your report. First, we always encourage every customer to take a thorough test drive and get their vehicle inspected by an independent mechanic. Of course all of our units go through a rigorous inspection process before the sale, but anything can happen with used cars. You signed paperwork stating you did a thorough inspection and test drive, and that you are fully satisfied before making your purchase. You signed further paperwork stating if any future mechanical issues arise, you understand you are responsible and will not attempt to bring the vehicle back to our location to be repaired. The contract clearly states we do not work on vehicles after the sale. You have a copy of all of this paperwork, but we are happy to also provide you with them again. We save a digital copy of every form you signed. With that said, our agents have already offered to assist you in this matter, despite the as-is purchase. They have asked you to get a full diagnosis on the vehicle, and then speak with them about potentially splitting the costs or getting a payment deferment. $3200 does not sound accurate at all for control arms, so I would recommend contact dixie finance so they can suggest somewhere.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because never once did any person we spoke to inform us of any of the things listed in your response. Let me clear up some confusion, in my original complaint I stated the financial adviser read off misguiding information about every document we signed. Never once did he let go of the paperwork to allow us to read the information throughly, otherwise we would have known this place is all about money. Again, taking advantage of us because of our age. He was working alone and Dixie finance was closed. So unless you were the one we had the conversation with, you can’t inform me of how the documents were presented or what information was told to us by your salesmen. The “assistance” is to go to YOUR preferred mechanic so that we can get scammed more. If something is mechanically wrong with a vehicle during these vigorous Inspections, it is required you disclose that information, which you did not. I will continue to share my experience regardless of the outcome with this complaint.
Sincerely,

I purchased a vehicle from this dealership 11/27/2024 and barely made it home. Even though I purchased a warranty with the vehicle the repair shop listed on the warranty deemed the vehicle unsafe and hazardous to drive. They refused to even work on it. And when I notified them of the issue all they said they could do was defer my first payment. Like why would I pay you for a car that’s not even safe to drive.Business Response

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because: On 11/27/2024 I went shopping for a vehicle from Approved Auto of America because I was in desperate need of reliable transportation to get back and forth from my new job.
During the test drive of the 2005 I noticed that the check engine light was on and there was no heat. I pointed that out to the salesman named ******. I was told that after the test drive it would be pulled into the service center and let them look at.
After being looked at I was told that it was just the oil sensor which would cost around $65.00 to fix. So I agreed to purchase the vehicle and I also purchased the extended warranty
. On 11/28/2024 the Jeep cutoff on my way to work and I had to wait several hours for a tow truck to come tow the vehicle back to my residence.
On 11/29/2024 I ended up paying ******* $230.00 to fix the oil sensor and it still didn’t fix the issue because I was then told that the transmission started running hot.
So I contacted Approved Auto of America and told them what was going on and that there’s no way I can afford to pay my car payments if I can’t make it to work.
I was then told to contact my account manager named ******* which I did and he said that they would defer my first payment just send a copy of my receipt from ******* which I did. I was also told that since I purchased a warranty with the vehicle that I could take it to ******* ********** **** for repairs which I did on 12/05/2024.
On 12/08/2024 I was told by Coslows Automotive that my vehicle had so many issues that it was unsafe to drive and that they refused to do any repair work and that I owe them $169.00 for the bottles transmission fluid that they put in it.
They informed me that they see stuff like this all the time. Approved Auto sends people to them knowing that there’s nothing they can really do and people are just out of luck.
As of 12/13/2024 the vehicle is still at ******* ****** ****. I’ve filed complaints with the BBB and the ******** ******** ******* .
Consumers should be protected from the predatory auto dealers

****** ******Initial Complaint

Let me first start this off by saying I got my first car from this lot in 2022 - had it til March 2024 when I traded my vehicle for the one I have now. First car was great, and the staff are excellent - second car, not so much. I traded my 2009 Hyundai Accent in for a 2009 Ford Taurus - this was in March of this year. When I walked in to the dealership and told them I wanted to trade, all they wanted to put me in was this ride - even though I had been looking at a few others, they were only focused on selling this car. I was told there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, and that it was in like new condition. It had really low mileage, and looked decent for it's age, so after the test drive, I took it. Not long after, it started having engine trouble. Come to find out the car had never had a tune up - spent about $450 to give it a complete tune up. Right as rain after that. The mechanic I took it too noted an insane amount of rust under the car - something that was NOT disclosed when I was sold the car. The rest of the time I've owned the car up until now, I've had problems with the steering and suspension on the car. Finally took it to ******* this past Wednesday (10/02/2024). Had to pay short of $2k to fix the car - problems that were also compounded by the rust. The shop had to take an angle grinder to the front end just to get the tie rod ends off to replace them. Then they tell me the tires on there are a decade old (shop estimated at least 12 yrs) and contributed to some of the issues I've been having with the car. So, in total, I've spent roughly $2,500 on this car (money that I technically didn't have, but I need my car) since I've had it, and I feel like it's condition was grossly misrepresented when initially sold. I reached out in June thru their ******** page about the rust and never got a response. The few times I have tried calling, the phone rings and no one picks up. I work 3rd shift and they're never open when I'm available to go in person.Business Response

There are several pieces of information within your complaint we would like to address, as they aren't accurate. First, we never represent that our vehicles are "like new" and will never have any type of issue. We recognize we are selling used cars that will require maintenance at some point. We do everything we can to prevent this from happening, but they are used cars. As you said, your car is 15 years old so it can't be like new. Our team has no record of you ever calling to speak with anyone about an issue. They are always standing by ready to help, but they can't do that if they don't hear from you. Messaging our sales team on ******** is not the correct way to contact someone who holds your loan at dixie finance company. Please find time to call dixie finance today and ask for a manager during business hours if you prefer to get your options for assistance.Customer Answer

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.I know that the car lot itself doesn't advertise the cars as "like new" - the salesman that was there when I came in that morning advertised it that way when he was trying to get me to buy the car - I wanted to look at other options but for some reason he really wanted to get me into that particular vehicle. The rust on the car alone presents a safety issue for anyone wanting to work on the car - if they put the car on a jack and the jack goes thru a rusted out section of the car, that can injure or kill the mechanic working on it. Furthermore, the tires on the car were as old as the car is - as I stated in the original complaint, the mechanic at ******* showed me the old ones after the new ones were put on - they were dry rotted and structurally speaking, could have failed at any time - resulting in potentially not only my own injury or death, but that of pedestrians and other drivers around me. At a minimum, I would have at least replaced the tires before I sold the car - but that's all in the past now. I will be calling shortly to speak with a manager as advised in the response from the business. Thank you for your prompt response.
Sincerely,

July 06 2024 financed a 2010 GMC Acadia for 1400 w a 6 month or 60000mile warranty, later that day car states low oil pressure and Engine light comes on. Oil is checked and oil is in the car. July 07 2024 car is took to **** **** where they state there’s a bad O2 sensor Went up to approved autos to see if they was able to check the issue out, they state they are not but it shouldn’t cause many issues, and stated that could be the reasoning for car stating low oil pressure, when asked if covered by warranty they also state it is not and that the warranty wouldn’t cover anything right now due to it still being so early on w receiving the car, and that it wouldn’t kick in until 60 days after. After this incident oil pressure warning did not come back. About a week after this incident, alternator goes out, warranty pays for most of it and I pay 125 out of pocket. Mechanic states alternator was very bad and rusted, states the pulley just crumpled in their hands when they touched it, thus having to have that replaced where they tried charging me another $65. About 4 days after having car out of shop car breaks down again, this time it’s the engine, the timing belt breaks. Warranty will not cover engine and wants me to pay 2k out of pocket. I state that I don’t have 2k to fix a car I just bought not even a full month ago thats been broke down more than it’s been driven. Tried seeing if I could replace car or even just return the car w out reviving a repo on my record which they state they can not, it will be a repo regardless. I didn’t even care to revive my money back I just wanted to give the car back without a repo going on my record further hindering me when it comes to transportation. Single mom of 2 and this has hindered my job, childcare, and kids education. The establishment has been nothing but rude and has helped w no resolution. When trying to find options to help, the finance lady becomes hostile and hangs up due to not wanting to help.Business Response

So I purchased the car February 27th at Approved Auto of America, and I test drove it everything was fine nothing seemed weird to me at the time. I had a second opinion which was my mom and she also test drove it herself, and she mentioned to the car salesman that the engine was smoking and they said that it was from the “wax” they put on it to clean it and I’m like ok and so I go to work the next morning and in the evening around 5 or 6 on the 28th of February I get stuck at the light, in the middle of traffic wit my baby in the car as well my battery light and engine oil light come on at the same time so I got my mom to come out and give me a jump, it didn’t work so I had to call roadside to get my car out the middle and I took it to them to get fixed it took them about 3 weeks cause they said it was the motor and I got it back mid March or close to the end of March and I had it all the way till May 9th and the same two lights came on before and it stopped in the middle of the expressway and I had a tow truck come and get it and they told me to take it to Kia to get fixed and now there saying my engine locked up but they’re gonna fix it with no charge, and my account manager that handles my Car Note kept bashing me about a payment even though my car is still in the shop and I’m like I’m not going to pay you if my car is in the shop and she has been basically ambushing me about repoing my car if I don’t make a payment to her with in a certain time and I felt like that wasn’t right and I feel like they should have did the right protocol in the first place as far as making sure the car was in great condition before putting it out for someone to buy it and I gave them $2500 for that car and when I first got it was told that I couldn’t get a refund, or get put into another car if something happened to the car within 24 hours. I just feel like anything they done wit me hasn’t been right nor fair.Business Response
