I ordered a 10x20 DERKSEN barn on 11/20/24. Order # 00997661 using on-line quote ****************. I specifically order BRIGHT RED BORDERS around all of the five (5) windows and door. When I received the barn on 12/20/24, there were not any borders around the windows only a BRIGHT RED TRIM around the door. I had composed the 3-D order showing everything. Having the BRIGHT RED BORDERS around the windows was a deciding factor to go with DERKSEN. I called ***** *********** DERKSEN SALES on 12/21/24 about the missing borders and she had agreed to issue a work order, after the holidays on 1/06/25. She turned this issue over to ***** *********** sales rep., who said that they are no longer putting colored borders around windows, even though their website is still shows that you can order colored borders around the windows. I asked ***** to send someone to install the BRIGHT RED BORDERS around all the windows (5) and he refused and said I could do it myself. Since I paid a premium price ($ 8094.52), I expect them to honor my order and complete the job.

*** ****** purchased his building in November 2024. He purchased a z-metal side lofted barn with the door in the center of the structure and two 2' x 3' windows on each side. When *** ****** designed his building, the program shows red j-channel trim around the windows.  Derksen realized that the j-channel trim had a propensity to leak and therefore discontinued that product and went to a new window that had the j-trim already attached to the window. The windows that were installed on *** ******** building are a better quality window than what *** ****** ordered and he was provided the upgraded windows at no charge.  The building was delivered on or about December 20, 2024, at which time *** ****** provided the remaining balance due on the building and signed a Customer Delivery Inspection Receipt (attached) in which *** ****** had the opportunity to address any issues with his building, however none were listed at the time of delivery. It wasn't until later that *** ****** decided that he was not happy with his building. *** ****** talked to *** ********** on January 15, 2025 and was informed then of the reasoning behind using the upgraded windows. *** ********** then told *** ****** that Derksen would be happy to provide *** ****** with the materials that Derksen previously used to make the trim around his windows red, but that due to the leakage problem the "old" windows caused, we would not replace his upgraded windows with a product of lesser quality. It is misleading to assert that *** ****** was told that if he wanted the red trim, "he could do it himself!"  That was not the tone or the message that Derksen was attempting to portray to *** *******  Derksen remains committed to providing *** ****** the materials to give his building the look that he desires.

IN APRIL 2024 I PAID FOR A BUILDING AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD GET IT. THEN THEY TURNED AROUND AND CLAIMED THAT I OWE OVER $700 DOLLARS FROM A PREVIOUS BUILDING BUT THEY LIED I GOT MY MONEY BACK. MY SISTER GOT A BUILDING FROM THEM AND THEY MOVED IT TO THE LOCATION. THEN THE LANDLORD WANTED IT MOVED SHE TOLD THEM THEN THEY WANTED $700 DOLLARS TO MOVE IT MAYBE A MILE BUT THEN THE LANDLORD CONTACTED THEM AND THEN THE STORAGE PEOPLE MOVED IT BACK TO THEIR LOT. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS BOTH BROKE THE LAW SINCE A PERSON HAS 30 DAYS TO MOVE AND THE BUILDING WAS NOT BEHIND ON PAYMENT. AND THE STORAGE PEOPLE KNEW THAT THEIR WAS ANOTHER PLACE FOR THE BUILDING TO GO. THESE PEOPLE CAN'T FATHOM THAT COURT ORDERS ALSO HAVE TO BE OBTAINED TO REPOSS BUILDINGS AND YOU CAN'T LEGALLY TAKE SOMEONE'S BUILDING THAT'S NOT BEHIND AND YOU CAN'T CHARGE THEM FOR SOMEONE ELSE WANTING IT MOVED ILLEGALLY I ADD

This customer's complaint is misguided in that Derksen Portable Buildings is the manufacturer of the portable building. This complaint should be directed toward the rental company that the customer pays each month for the rent-to-own contract. The rental company is who would have ordered a pick-up for any building purchased through a rent-to-own contract. In addition, customer's complaint seems to be more on behalf of her sister who is upset that she cannot get the building moved to a new location for free.  After the initial delivery of the building, Derksen has nothing to do with moving the building to a new location upon request from a previous customer and Derksen has no control over how much an independent contractor who moves buildings charges for their work.  Also, if the building was picked up and taken back to a Derksen sales lot, that action would have been initiated by the rental company and not by Derksen Portable Buildings.

In regards to the "purchase" of a building in April, customer was returned all of her money that was paid on her rent-to-own contract after the rental company rejected the contract due to a previous repossession with the customer for nonpayment. Again, if customer feels they have been wronged by someone in this situation, customer's complaint should be directed towards the rental company and not towards Derksen Portable Buildings unless the customer has a complaint about the quality or workmanship of the building that was purchased.

Date: 2/14/2024 Repairs paid out of pocket: $7964.48 Delivery Contractor for Derksen, *** ******** delivered shed and placed it in our driveway. During delivery, the delivery man became stuck around gas meter. He ended up breaking the meter, which resulted in almost $8,000 in repairs to get gas turned back on (was without hot water and heat for 1 week). I provided both the Derksen dealer and *** ******* photos of the area clearly showing gas meter and was assured that maneuvering and delivering in that area would not be a problem. Due to delivery driver negligence, it results in these repairs. Have attempted to get help with reimbursement of repairs by both Derksen. Both entities have told me that it's just bad luck and they won't assist.

This complaint is misleading as to the facts that actually occurred and led to the repair necessary. The out of pocket repairs were not due to the top of the gas meter being damaged which is what happened upon delivery of the building. My understanding is that the repair work was necessary to repair the underground gas line that, over years, had become corroded and had numerous leaks in it. It was only after the top of the gas meter was damaged when the gas company came out to repair the meter that they discovered this customer had more extensive issues that were going on underneath the surface. The nearly $8,000 in repairs came from the fact that the entire gas line had to be replaced (or at least a substantial amount of it); not from an independent contractor damaging the top of the gas meter.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: there was no history of any gas leaks in the line or pressure issues. The damage at the meter caused an explosive release of gas. If it had not been for the delivery contractor breaking the meter, the gas doesn’t get shut off and require inspection, and there are no repairs being made to the gas line. Your comments about corroded lines is unfounded as no one from *** ******* nor Derksen came out to look at lines or talk to any plumbers. The catalyst of these required repairs to get our gas turned back on was because the delivery person breaking the gas meter.

    Sincerely,

    ******* *******

Derksen is not making any offers to the customer or further comments to this complaint. Whatever the cause was for the $8,000.00 repair bill incurred by the customer, the bottom line is that it was not the fault of Derksen or any of its employees or agents.  Regardless of whether there were pre-existing problems with the gas lines that were brought to light after the damage to the meter, any complaint and action requested/demanded by the customer is with the independent contractor who delivered the building and not with Derksen who is the manufacturer of the building.

I am rejecting this response because: *** ******* was the contractor that Derksen selected for the delivery and acted as an agent for Derksen. They have been uncooperative throughout all of this. If you have their insurance information or any sort of additional corporate information for them, I would like that info.
