            I started a homeowner's insurance policy with Gulf States Insurance effective 12/29/22 - 12/29/23. The premium amount of $2,226 was paid through my escrow account in full on 12/7/22. This policy should be in good standing until the end of this year but then I received a notice of cancellation in July 2023 because my premium has not been paid (attachment below). I did not agree to pay an extra premium price in addition to the one that was paid in full in December of 2022. I notified Gulf States insurance that I will not be continuing their policy effective 8/5/23 and expect a refund for the remaining months of the current policy. However, I spoke with two customer service representatives, ***** and ***, who stated that I cannot be issued a refund due to nonpayment. It is my understanding that my premium amount that was agreed upon and signed for was paid in full when I purchased this policy. I want to be issued a refund for the remainder of the policy between 8/5/23-12/29/23.

            If you claim to have been trying to get extra money from a mortgage company without the owner's knowledge, you need to contact your customers and NOT follow up with a cancellation letter demanding payment from the unsuspecting customer. Improve your customer service skills and avoid treating customers poorly, as I was today.

            Thank you for your time and feedback relating to your experience with Gulf States Insurance Company. After a review of your policy, it has been determined that the billing copies for the additional premiums due on your account were sent to your appointed agent and the billable mortgage company on your account. When the payment was not remitted, the system issued a non-payment cancellation notice to the agent, your billable mortgage company and to the named insured on the policy. The additional premium has been paid and posted to your policy, paying the current policy term 8/21/2023-8/21/2024 for policy number: LAH130498-00 in full.
