As per the rental agreement payments are due in advance of the due date to continue renting. Your payments each week or month are paying for the use of the item. Every time the payment comes due you have the option to make another payment, return the item, or pay it off. This is a 24 month agreement that started in March of 2024. The customer has had the use of the item which is what they are paying for, so there is no credit due. If they were told that they would have to return the item, it would be because they did not make the rental payment before the renewal date as the customer agreed to.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: Because it looks like the more I pay on these items my total price never goes down, I’ve had this dryer for almost 2 years and I still owe thousand plus dollars on this item and that’s insane and it makes no sense for them to be ripping people off the way that they are doing
Sincerely,

Sorry this customer is so confused about the rental agreement and how the early buyout discount works.
If the customer needs to come to the store and go over the rental agreement again, we would be happy to go over it and show him his payment history, the current balance and how it all works.
The agreement is for 24 months, the customer got it in March of 2024. They have not had it 2 years and the buyout discount is 40% off of the remaining term. It goes down every time a payment is made. The remaining term goes down by the amount of rent paid and the discount is off the remaining term.
Hope this helps

I leased a bedroom set in December of 2023 from Affordable Furniture in Denham Springs. Well this year I fell on hard times and was evicted from my apartment. With nowhere to go I was forced to leave everything behind. I called affordable multiple times to let them know to go get the furniture after one of my then neighbors call me to tell me the men from the complex was going into the apartment. The store manager that I spoke with advised me that someone would go to the apartment. I am getting HARRASED!! These people call me every day, ALL DAY!! I understand I leased from you guys but I told y'all to go retrieve the furniture. Why didn't y'all go get it? Yesterday, I got an email & a phone call from a ******* (store manager) not the guy I was originally dealing with. Basically calling me a lie, saying that he's going to put me in jail. For what? Furniture that I DON'T have? What is it going to take for me to get them to come to the friends house I'm staying with to check my things?Business Response

This customer has been a good customer and we would like to work this out. The person who called her recently was ******* who is the home office rep for that area. On September 20th we contacted her regarding her account that was past due from September 15th. At that time she told us she was evicted and she put the merchandise outside 3 weeks ago. We went to the apartment immediately and found it boarded up. This was the only contact we had with her at this point, we never received a call to retrieve the merchandise before this. Under the rental agreement she is responsible for the merchandise until returned to the company. If she abandons the merchandise she is still responsible for paying for it. Someone will contact her again regarding the account, as she has requested.

On May 31, 2024 they called me in regards to my last payment. I told them that my Ouachita Valley card was canceled and that I had to send someone in to make the payment. He said okay. Told me that I would have to pay 156.00. When we hung up, he submitted the payment from my husband account that had out rent money in it. He then called me back and told me that he had ran the payment through one of the cards on file. This was without me or my husband consent. The account is in my name, not my husband.Business Response

We processed the payment with a card on file that had been used for payments before. We would be happy to refund the card as soon as the customer pays with a different option. Please contact the manager of the store to resolve.Initial Complaint

I purchased a dryer from Affordable Home Furnishings on 10/17/23. To avoid paying the ridiculous interest, we paid the dryer off in the 90 days same as cash period. On 2/19/24, the dryer that I had for not even 4 months and that I paid roughly $800 at Affordable for went out. I called the store to see if there was a warranty or any coverage in place to fix the dryer, repair, or replace it. The manager ****** basically told me the warranty on the dryer was up and the store would not be covering any repair or replacement because we paid the dryer off in the 90 days same as cash period. She said the least they could do was send someone out the next day to look at the dryer, which they did not do. I've been a loyal customer of this place for years and that means nothing. They basically sold me a used dryer that I only used for a good 4 and a half months for $800 that no longer works. I've been a returning customer for years and never had issues making payments early or on time. Then the store had the audacity to call me after this incident trying to get me to buy something else. I told the lady I will NEVER buy anything else from them. They don't care about their loyal customers and sell used, crap items to customers at full price. Should be against the law and something needs to be done about the bad business this company is providing. After this incident, we went and paid $700 at Lowes for a brand new dryer with a 4 year warranty. I left a review on Google about this incident and tried to call their home office. Of course there was no answer and noone has even made an attempt to rectify the situation.Business Response

We have no record of a service call regarding the dryer. We would be happy to check out the dryer and diagnose the problem. We have tried to reach out to the customer but she has not responded. We certainly do not want to lose this valued customer and would like the opportunity to solve the issue.Customer Answer

I am emailing you back in reference to my case with the BBB that was closed. I reject the resolution of the case or the fact that the case was closed. I was not aware there was even a response to my case on 4/1/24 or 4/2/24.I thought maybe someone would call me or reach out. I was not aware I needed to keep track of the case by email. I have not received any communication from Affordable Home Furnishing regarding this matter, even after calling and attempting to reach their home office. The company has reached out to me multiple times trying to sell me stuff at which point I advised them to please stop calling me trying to solicit my business as I will not ever be buying anything from them ever again. The company has not however reached out to me regarding this complaint. So, ******* claims that the company has tried to reach out are not correct. It has been over a month since our dryer from Affordable went out. We actually went and bought a brand new one from Lowes for $750 with a 4 yr warranty. We paid less for a brand new dryer with a 4 yrs warranty than we did for the dryer from Affordable with no warranty. Also, ***** wasnt able to find a service call because apparently, the manager ****** did not submit the service call even after I asked her to and after she gave me a time to expect someone. I reject ******* response as it is incorrect and is not true. ***** nor anyone from Affordable Corporate has tried to contact me since I opened this complaint.Business Response

I apologize and ****** apologizes for your experience regarding this.
We will fix your dryer free of charge if that is a possibility, or we have authorized ****** to give you a free item from the store up to a $400 value or a store credit for that amount if you would like to pick out something else that is a higher value.
We value you as a customer and appreciate your business.
Again we both apologize for your experience regarding this.
Since we are not able to contact you per your request, please contact ****** at the store, she would love the opportunity to make this up to you.

I purchased two air conditioners from this business. I received a text message in 10-28-23 that stated that I was behind in my payments and needed to schedule a time to have them pick up the air conditioners. I responded to the text message that I had been in the hospital and couldn’t make my payment. I asked if they could just pick up the one and that I could pay for the other one when I got paid again. Then I received another text saying that they would not accept any more money on the account. I had to leave the house for a little while and when I got home there was a note on my door that said that I was stealing the air conditioners and I also received a message that said they would be pursuing legal action if they didn’t get them back by Monday but that they would come by on Tuesday to get them. I was also told by my neighbor that they were running around my house and banging on my doors. First off, I offered to let them get the ac unit that we were not using. Second, I never told them to come to my house on Saturday at all. Third, if I was going to steal the ac units, I would never had been paying on them in the first place. This is terribly rude and disrespectful to me and my family, as well as unprofessional and poor business at the very least. I hope that something gets done about this and that other people are treated better.Business Response

The rental agreement states clearly that payments are due in advance of use of the item but the customer does not have to continue renting. On each renewal they can make another payment, pay it off, or return it. They do not have the option to keep it and not do any of those three options. We never said anything about stealing or did anything improper at the house. We communicated that the items needed to be returned and that we were not able to renew the agreement since it was terminated by non payment and 28 days delinquent. On October 31st the customer did make the items available and we picked them up and the customer signed the return paperwork.

This is the card that was left on our door. It clearly states that this is considered theft. And the company representative did not have the pick up paperwork with her, so they are lying about me signing it. I just want people to be aware of their poor business practices and not use them anymore.Business Response

I apologize, after further investigation we discovered we were incorrect about the pick up paperwork. The employee was in the area and went to the house and did not have any return paperwork at the time. The employee was with the customer and made a phone call to the manager while at the house and the customer released the merchandise to us. If a customer does not pay the rent or return the merchandise in a timely fashion it can be a criminal offense in violation of Louisiana's failure to return leased moveable law. We always try to maintain open communication with the customer and resolve any issues without pursuing legal remedies and the account manager was trying to inform the customer that it needed to be returned immediately and time to resolve the account without legal measures was running out.
See Below regarding Louisiana criminal law on "failure to return leased moveables":
Louisiana Revised Statutes Tit. 14, § 220.1. Leased movables; ?obtaining by false representation; ?failure to return or surrender;
In Louisiana, it is illegal to intentionally fail to return or surrender a leased movable after the expiration or cancellation of the lease. The lessee’s failure to return or surrender the movable within fifteen calendar days or the number of days for which the movable was leased, whichever is less, after the date written notice requesting return or surrender of the movable was delivered or tendered to the lessee’s last known address shall be presumptive evidence that the failure to return or surrender the movable was intentional.
