The Maryland public health switch to Carelon as a payer for clinicians is an absolute disaster. The previous payer took one hour to accept and approve claims for payment. Carelon just loses the claims with no explanations. They are just missing from their system. This has resulted in clinicians not getting paid since Jan 1. They are making it impossible for counselors to accept ******** and, thus, causing the neediest of clients to drop out of treatment. So, the court-ordered client that must complete a program is left without help they can afford. It all adds up to Carelon driving our clients into crisis and making our communities less safe. The State of Maryland failed to adequately vet this payer to do a crucial job for the physical and mental health of its citizens.

Absolutely horrid. It's not even worth 1 star. Where to start? Carelon can't seem to send a current list of providers; everything it out of date. I have called several providers on the Carelon list and at least half either are not taking new patients or no longer in-network. Then there is the issue of unpaid billing. I have talked with Carelon on several occasions regarding a bill I received and every time, the next representative I spoke with seemed to have an answer. The doctor's office says they have electronically billed Carelon, twice, and with no response. I filed a "Surprise Bill" in accordance with the law and Carelon saw it and ignored it. Empire/NYSHIP needs to dump Carelon. I never had these problems when dealing with just Beacon. The Empire Plan/NYSHIP needs to realize that mental health not easy and the fact that the Empire Plan/ NYSHIP is putting people's lives at risk as long as they continue to let Carelon provide the Mental Health Services for the Empire/NYSHIP plan. We are at their mercy,More people need to speak up and tell their story so that we can put Carelon and the Empire Plan on notice so that there is the necessary class action available against Carelon and **************.

The worst!! Stay away from Carelon ...claims denied in error and no one helps to fix it...back in May I requested a rate increase for my provider and its now the end of December and its "still in review"Unfortunately the patients suffer the consequences because when we see this insurance we wont accept the patient. They should be sanctioned by the US **** of Insurance, what they are doing should be deemed criminal!

For physical therapy, this company rejects anything more than 5 visits for people with an insurance plan that works with Carelon. After 5 vists, they find any reason to reject a request for more visits, like saying "they havent met their goals". How will anyone meet their PT goals in 5 visits??!?!

We have been in the credentialing process since 01/12/2024. No turnaround on contracting which we just entered into on 07/10/2024. So, theoretically if it takes yet another ****** days, they did state data entry can take up to 2-10weeks. There is another 2wks to 2.5mths. We are already credentialed with 15 other insurances and have been applying since January 2024. Why is it this hard for Carelon to do the same in one year that it takes other insurance companies 2-5mths to do? Especially when the provider has already been credentialed with Anthem once within the past year. This unethical, unacceptable, and they need to be reported to the ********** of ********* which is my next stop.

Carelon aka Wellsense have decided to "recoup" 17 months of my claims submitted on their website. I made an error and ticked the wrong box . It took whoever 17 months to notice the errors. The did not provide any documentation. Just claim denials beginning in late May 2024. This translates to no payment for services provided since late May and their intention to withhold payment for many months to come based on payments made from January 2023 to May 2024. The "window" to resubmit more than 500 claims (one by one) ends August 1st. 2024. I have spend countless hours resubmitting claims, and attempting to get clarity with no success.

As a mental health provider they are awful. I am providing services to a client who has Beacon as their secondary coverage. Beacon is owned by Carelon. I have tried to change my address with them since December, 2023. I could write on a piece of paper change my address from and to in less than a minute. But 7 months later it is not resolved. They offer two options , both of which Ive done repeatedly. When I call I get bounced around repeatedly. They have their payment done through a third company-checks. They send out virtual cards which I cant use ( they charge a convenience fee. They could convert money owed, now over $600, to checks but they will get sent to the wrong address. So this dysfunctional connectivity means Im not getting paid. A convenient money saver for them about which they do not care. If you are a provider and value getting paid for your work, beware.

*** had a slew of issues with this company, but the one that is most upsetting to me is the fact that my therapist left the company and its been two months and I have not heard a peep from Carelon to let me know or to connect me with a new therapist. This feels very negligent on their behalf. Ive already felt like this company could care less about their patients, this just confirms it.
