    Overview

Kryptonite is a supplier of physical security devices for vehicles including bicycles, motorcycles, automobiles and trucks. The company offers a 24 hour replacement service for lost keys that have been registered in advance. In addition, if a lock and bicycle are registered with an original bill of sale for the lock and bicycle (a dealer appraisal is also acceptable) within fifteen days of the purchase of the lock, the firm will reimburse the owner for the full cost of the bicycle (taxes, accessories, and lock not included) up to $3000 depending on which lock was purchased or if stolen within a year of registration. Kryptonite requires compliance with each of the terms of its guarantee program including proof of product failure in order for a claim to be paid. The theft of the bike must be reported promptly in writing to Kryptonite Corporation as well as the local police.

I purchased a Kryptonite U-Lock last July 2023 from a local retailer, which also features an Anti-Theft protection offer from Kryptonite themselves. I purchased that offer for $***** USD from Kryptonite on July 8, 2023.My Bike was stolen on December 25, 2023. I filed a claim against my protection offer on December 26, 2023. The terms of the protection program state: "Your claim will be reviewed and you will be contacted by our team within 30 business days. At that time, you will be notified whether your claim has been approved, denied, or whether we require additional information."Now, on April 18, 2024, nearly 4 whole months later (close to 120 days vs the 30 day response time in the terms of the protection offer) I have received 0 correspondence from Kryptonite to my claim. I have sent several (3) follow *** to Kryptonite and have been left completely in the dark.I am entitled to know if my claim is accepted or denied. They have breached the terms of their own protection plan by not responding to me. They should cover my stolen bike. If the results of the claim are that my claim was denied, then I should at least be refunded for the protection plan, as the lock is now broken (unusable) after the theft and the bike is gone (the protection plan, 5 years, is useless to me). This is unacceptable on the part of Kryptonite - their protection offer amounts to a scam. They took my money and have provided no value in return. The cost of the protection plan was $48.02 CAD (***** USD) at the time of purchase. It is supposed to cover my bike (Valued $949.99 CAD).The lock cost $89.59 after tax. That is a total of $137.61 CAD I have paid for 0 customer service. Would not recommend this product & associated protection service to anyone.

Stay away from Kryptonite locks. Sure they might work well (the more expensive one's) at keeping your stuff secure, but if you have a problem with one good luck getting any help from them. I bought their New York Faghetaboutit disk lock with chain for my son's dirt bike. It's kept inside an attached garage, but his last bike was stolen so I wanted an extra layer of security. Bought it for Christmas 6 months ago. The lock has never left the garage and has only been locked/unlocked about a dozen times. Went to unlock it the last time and the key will only turn 3/4 of the way instead of all the way around to unlock. Tried all 3 keys (2 of which I've never even used outside of making sure they worked when I got the lock) and none of them will open the lock. Tried many times, probably spent a couple hours overall trying to get it unlocked. If this was the only issue I'd understand, anything can have problems. My issue is with Kryptonite and their non-existent customer service. It has you go on their site and fill out a support ticket, as well as give your key #, and send pictures of the lock with an explanation of the problem your having. Did that and got an email with my ticket number. Since then I haven't heard a single word back from them, despite leaving several more messages. So now I have to cut a $150 lock because it's summer and my son wants to ride his dirt bike. So I'm sure if they do finally get in touch with me (which is probably unlikely) they're not going to do anything for me after I cut it. There's plenty of other good locks out there from companies that actually have custom service. I recommend buying from one of them and avoiding Kryptonite. As you can see the rest of the reviews on here aren't any better than mine.
