Seaside Glass gave my contractor ********************* a verbal estimate of $5000 to remove, clean and install 5 panels of glass in my solar greenhouse. The glass needs to be removed to replace the rotted sill. I was never given a written contract or estimate with proposed labor and material costs . I put down a deposit of $ ****. On 10/12, it took 4 men 1.5 hours to remove the glass. They arrived at 8 am at 9:37 they were gone Seaside Glass arrived at my house at 8am on 11/1 to re- install the glass. I went to the DR. at 8:15. I came home at 9:15 and they were gone and glass was in. There as a note on my door asking for the balance of $2918.75 by check that day. I called the office immediately and paid the balance by credit card. The amount of money seemed extremely high for the amount of time and quality. of workmanship so I called the office to talk to ***********************. I had broken down the 57.18.75 by the 12 man hours site to $476 an hour. I asked how many hours it took to clean the glass. He said "4 men 4 hours". That's a total of 28 man hours. I asked for a detailed invoice of labor and materials. He said he'd give me a refund and an invoice. The invoice stated $300 materials and total labor $5400. He refunded me $500 which I have not cashed as I believe he owes me a much larger refund. I'm willing to pay an equitable wage for the job. I understand he has overhead as well. I got a letter today stating the matter is settled in his mind. His work, done in haste, is causing problems of moisture getting between the glass and sill. The glass still has paint on it and was not cleaned properly. The adhesive strips that are visible from the outside are poorly instated and crooked. My contractor had to push the glass in on the top when he was doing the finish work. My ******* states his work was "executed accurately" and "he is not responsible for external work". I have talked to ***************** twice and written him a detailed letter asking for appropriate compensation.

      Customer response

      12/19/2023

I have not heard from the business in response to my complaint. Prior to my complaint with the BBB Seaside Glass said they considered the issue solved with the refund of $500 even though I believe I was overcharged $2800. After I filed the complaint I learned from my contractor that after the glass was removed and he saw how it was originally adhered, he could have replaced the rotted sill without ever removing the glass. he also said that he believes the glass ** knew this as well and never informed me (the customer) nor my contractor. Which is basically fraud. I'm deciding to take this to court. Thank you for your help.

      Tell us why here..Dear Minette,

We sent you a letter reiterating that the work completed by our team was executed accurately and in accordance with the agreed upon specifications that were discussed with you directly.

A quote, not an estimate, was provided directly to you by our office in the amount of $5,718.75. A quoted price is a fixed price which assures you that it will remain unchanged regardless of any unforeseen circumstances that *** affect the time required to complete the project. Had the project exceeded predicted completion times from our initial quote, you would still be safeguarded from additional charges.

In agreement to the quoted price, you provided a roughly 50% deposit which served as a commitment to the quote and project details in addition to securing your position in the project queue. By making this upfront payment, you are confirming your intent to proceed with the project and acknowledging the terms and conditions we discussed.

This deposit not only shows your serious interest in moving forward, but also ensures that both parties are bound by the agreed upon price. It allows us, the service provider, to allocate resources, schedule tasks, and plan, accordingly, knowing that a portion of the funds required for this project are already secured.

Our commitment lies in the quality and precision of the work we deliver. As such, our responsibility for the specified services came to a conclusion ensuring that the deliverables met or exceeded the specifications we discussed. It's important to note, any subsequent modifications or alterations by external parties fall outside the scope of our responsibility.

We also want to highlight that, in good faith, we processed a refund of $500, even though it was determined that a refund was not required. Our commitment to customer satisfaction goes beyond mere transactions and we value the trust you place in our services. The refund is a gesture of goodwill, reflecting our dedication to ensuring your experience with us exceeds expectations.

      Sincerely,

      Seaside Glass
