Insight solar are liars. It's been a year with Solar now. I've waited a year to write a review and see how everything shook out. So far I'm slightly net-positive for going solar (because of the ONE TIME federal tax credit). However, NOT WORTH IT, if I could turn back time and not do it I would. Before you move forward with solar, my two cents:-there WILL BE a lien against your home -they will lie/inflate about savings to sell you panels -work with your tax professional BEFORE you start working with solar installers -DONT USE INSIGHTInsight Solar Response

I had a seamless experience with Insight. Our sales rep, Brad, was attentive and patient with all of our questions, always available for a call, excellent at clarifying in layperson terms all of the steps involved. Eric and Leah were also very helpful throughout the process. The install happened as they said it would, within the timeframe and cost estimated. They also guided us through the loan process from start to finish. Highly recommend!Insight Solar Response

Working with this company at first was good. After signing a agreement for a 10kv solar system I found I could get the same setup for almost half the price if I went a different route. Working with these guys they reconfigured my 11.6kv array down to a 10.8kv array and dropped the price a bit. Was still more then else where but I figured they worked with me I'll stick with them. Upon install of the panels and inverter I noticed the inverter was a 7.6kv and brought this to their attention. I was met with " this is normal, its sized correctly" Further in the process I get emails back for several months from national grid saying the paperwork was wrong, upon looking it shows a 10kv system. back and forth insight finally gets it right and changes it to a 7.6k system and now the paperwork is good. Now a year later I bring it back up and I'm getting the same answers, no help. I'm not happy with the system and I cannot get a logical answer besides its correct, trust me. I got a warranty extension for an extra 5 years, so basically I get to be unhappy with this product for 30 years now instead of 25. I now have a 7.6kv system that is maxed out during sunny days because they installed a smaller inverter and wont provide answers or assistance on how to correct.Insight Solar Response

Each point is addressed below after quotes copied directly from the review.
"Working with this company at first was good. After signing a agreement for a 10kv solar system I found I could get the same setup for almost half the price if I went a different route."
For clarity, you originally signed for an 11.56kw DC system with a 10kw AC inverter. We recommended dropping 2 panels because the panels were significantly shaded and the output of the 2 panels would not justify the cost of the panels. We adjusted your price commensurate with the price per watt of the original system. Please keep in mind that we make more money on larger system sizes. We sent you a change order that notified you of the changes and why they were being made, which you signed. Your system size was now reflected at 10.88kw DC.
"Working with these guys they reconfigured my 11.6kv array down to a 10.8kv array and dropped the price a bit. Was still more then else where but I figured they worked with me I'll stick with them."
You financed your system through a solar loan that we facilitated as a service to you. The cost of the system with financing was $4.50/watt. The cash price of the same system was $3.30/watt. The average price of solar in MA in 2021 was $3.61/watt according to the MASS CEC.
"Upon install of the panels and inverter I noticed the inverter was a 7.6kv and brought this to their attention. I was met with " this is normal, its sized correctly" "
The manufacturer guidelines state that we should spec an inverter that is no greater than 155% of the DC system size. We could have spec'd your original system size (11.54kw) with the 7600 inverter and been within manufacturer guidelines. When we removed 2 panels, it made sense to reduce the inverter as we were reducing the DC system size (inverters are sized as AC). Furthermore, inverters are only activated when they reach the minimum voltage necessary to turn them on which varies according to inverter size. The smaller the inverter the less voltage required to activate it. So, in lower light situations, a smaller inverter will produce power when a larger one wouldn't have been activated. This more than offsets any loss because of clipping. Let me be clear ALL properly sized systems in New England clip, including my own system.
"Further in the process I get emails back for several months from national grid saying the paperwork was wrong, upon looking it shows a 10kv system. back and forth insight finally gets it right and changes it to a 7.6k system and now the paperwork is good. "
The paperwork you refer to was the interconnection application with the utility. There was no back and forth. We submitted it with the original size and then had to amend it when the size changed. This is normal process of which you were informed of every step of the way
"Now a year later I bring it back up and I'm getting the same answers, no help. I'm not happy with the system and I cannot get a logical answer besides its correct, trust me."
We have had several exchanges with you, both on the phone and through email. Several members of the organization have tried their hand and apparently, have failed.
"I got a warranty extension for an extra 5 years, so basically I get to be unhappy with this product for 30 years now instead of 25."
We stand behind our correctly engineered and installed design. Since we can't/won't change your system from right to wrong, Insight Solar decided to provide you with an extended 3rd party independent coverage at our cost. The warranty is for 30 years through a separate insurance backed company that provides coverage even if manufacturers go out of business or your original installer doesn't want to service you anymore. Insight Solar was vetted and approved to offer this warranty and are one of the only installers in New England to be able to. Your system is covered for all parts, labor and roof penetrations for the full 30 year term.
"I now have a 7.6kv system that is maxed out during sunny days because they installed a smaller inverter and wont provide answers or assistance on how to correct."
You don't have a 7.6kv system. You have a 7600 watt inverter. Your system is 10.88kw. It is a system that Insight guarantees in writing, will produce at least 90% of estimated production for 25 years. I know of no other company that stands behind its work like this.
I'm pretty sure the questions are answered. You just don't want to accept that we provided. Finally, I have enclosed a statement from the regional ********* representative.
To whom it may concern,

Just to clarify, this is the email chain between myself and your company, I start inquiring about canceling the system due to finding almost the same size system as your build for almost 25k less, then we worked through it, and I stayed with you guys. As I stated in the review. Read below and you will see nothing was recommended, You straight out lied saying your company recommended removing two panels. I have no further need to analyze your entire attempt of a response. As I stated in emails to you, I am not questioning or complaining about the production that you are so proudly standing behind. I am simply unhappy with seeing the output clip for 4-8hrs a day. If the output is capped, there is wasted potential, be it or not the inverter can handle more then its maximum rated capacity as stated by the manufacturer.

Hi ****,
I need to cancel the solar at my residence. Do I just print the final page of the agreement and send it in or is there another process?

Hi M***,
Here is what I'm looking at.
Companies are going over the estimate, but not 25k plus.
Its not financing numbers. but a Number that would need to be either financed or paid off.

Hi Randy
just spoke with Pat,
we can use the rec panels if you want which are a little lower grade and lower the size of the system to 10.720kw to be more in align with the offer you showed me which is 10.59kw -
if you dont want to take advantage of the low 1.49% financing with no money down we can do the system for a self financed/cash price of $36,448 (net $26,971.52 after fed tax credit) which would require a 10% deposit.
We could also stick with the higher grade qcell and do a 10.880kw system with the low financing of 1.49% for $49,000. ( net $36260 after 26% fed tax credit)
this would be a monthly payment of $174.80

this is as close as we can come to matching the low bids you received but as we discussed low bid not always best work or long term support
yes to the 2nd point,
it is the better equipment and there is some cost for the low interest rate as well -

ok, I feel a bit better with the 10.88kw qcell price. thanks for working with me. How many less panels is that, i'm guessing the 4 will come off the lower rear roof and maybe a few more?
