On October 2021 I contacted Modern Stamped Concrete company to get a quote on a ***** sq ft pool deck. The project is schedule tentatively for August 2022, however I wanted to be proactive and start searching for companies. ***** quoted me $15,000 dollars and requested a $500 dollar deposit to hold the date. He emailed me a contract and I signed and wrote a check for $500 dollars for the deposit on October 4th 2021. On February 16th (6 months prior to schedule project) I emailed ***** because we decided to do a paver deck vs stamped concrete. I thank him for taking the time to write me a quote and respectfully explained the reason why I wanted to canceled. ***** response was the following. "Hi *****, it's unfortunate to hear that! The deposit was to purchase some of your materials. If you would like to pick it up I will give you the address to do so!" I found this to be disrespectful and unprofessional. He is not purchasing concrete 6 months in advance. I replied to him to clarify his email and I never received a response. His contract did not disclose any information about cancellation and/or loosing a full deposit. This is more about the principle and bad business practices than the money.
