We hired O'Lyn Roofing to have our home, garage, chimney, and gutters replaced or improved. After multiple visits to our home, the weather is still getting in. After their chimney brick repointing and waterproofing spray failed we were told we would be made whole. It is my understanding that the work required daytime low temperatures above ********************************** a row. Suitable weather has occurred and we seem to have been forgotten. O'lyn's multiple efforts on our chimney cap and upper chimney brick mortar crumbled and the waterproofing was not completed. O'Lyn Roofing fails to respond to our written emails.Initial Complaint

O'*** was contracted to replace the roof and this included window work and the rubber around them. Repairs were never satisfactory and several attempts were made with the company directly to have the issues fixed. Problems were never fixed and my fear is that the comapny is simply attempting to ******* the warranty. At this time I have little faith in their ability to do the work and feel they are taking advantage of the fact that the homeowners are senior citizens who are trusting them and have limited means to have the work done properly by another company. We are appealing to BBB for assistance in hoping they will get involved and hodl the company accoutnable for the work and/or ensure they get the work done by someone else who is qualified to do the work. We have uploaded several photos. The the continues leaks and improperly repaired window and roof have resulted in additional water damage. The wooded frame in the picture inside of our 3rd floor bathroom window which is in the roof and damanged due to it not being repaired properly. You can see where after I complained about the leaks they they came and boarded up the work. I am not able to take photos of what the roof looks like so the pictures I have are all from the inside of the home. I would like to only be contacted by BBB regarding this matter. Work was completed in 1/2015 with a 15year Warranty.Business Response

March 2023 this company put our new.roof on, they left a huge mess.and damaged siding as well as gardens. Now we have a leak they sent 2 guys out they said it was the chimney, we had a chimney company come they said it's the flashing around the chimney, the roofing company said they will not send any more techs out, so my husband asked to speak to the general manager or owner but they did not call us in 2023 when we had the other issues, now we have to wait with all this rain doing more damage to the ceiling and hardwood floors. This is still under warranty, I believe this is retaliation for my bad reviews regarding the terrible mess they made and damages they never made repairs of or reimbursement for. I would like he flashing fixed, and the ceiling and floor repair paid for by them.Business Response

As of today, April 5, 2024 the roof is still leaking, the company has requested to meet with the chimney company here at our home, but with the rain they have not been able to do so yet. They do still say it is the chimney at this point, it is not.

As of today, April 26, 2024, we have gone above and beyond to rectify the homeowners concern and determined it is a chimney issue not a roofing issue. We have offered to do this additional work on their chimney at no additional charge. However, they have refused to accept this as a resolution.

Please add your rejection comments below; if you do not provide any details, your complaint will be closed as ********************************* INSISTS ON CHIMNEY WORK FOR 2 REASONS, 1. TO NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WATER DAMAGE CAUSED BY FLASHING. AND 2. THE CHIMNEY WORK HAS NO WARRANTY AND ONCE THE FLASHING Around THE CHIMNEY IS REDONE TO COMPLETE CHIMNEY JOB THE ACTUAL FLASHING ISSUE *** OR *** NOT BE REPAIRED BUT IT WILL.ALSO NOW BE NO LONGER COVERED BY THE 10 YR WORKMANSHIP WARRANTY (which they are not honoring anyways) WE HAD A ROOFING CONTRACTOR OUT TO GET A 2ND OPINION ON THE ISSUE AND IT IS THE FLASHING NOT THE CHIMNEY. I DO NOT TRUST O'*** CONTRACTING TO BE ON MY ROOF. THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING BESIDES IGNORE EMAILS, CALLS, TEXTS, DO A SHODDY REPAIR WITH TAR, Overcharge FOR A 3RD LAYER OF SHINGLES THAT WHERE NEVER ON THE ***** AND CHARGE FOR 48' OF NEW BOARDS WHEN 5' AT MOST WERE REPLACED. AND THEY DID NOT LAY DONE PLYWOOD WHICH IS REQUIRED ON THE BOARDS WE HAVE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE BUILDING INSPECTOR ABOUT THIS. I DO NOT ACCEPT O'LYN'S CLAIM THAT THEY HAVE RECTIFIED THE ISSUE, THEY HAVE DONE AS CLOSE TO ZERO AS THEY CAN.

Within the last year or so, OLynn roofing was contracted to repair the bridge of our roof. A worker was sent out and said it was repaired. We were given no pictures or evidence, but unfortunately trusted this company. About 2 months ago the exact same placed they were asked to fix blew off our roof leading to leaks in our attic and upper floor. I informed this business one 2 occasion a week apart about this problem and was told a project manager would call and set up an appointment. They never called, never came and didnt respond after a negative review. They have been dodging me because of their warranty. This is an absolutely nefarious company that will complete spotty work and take your money while knowing everything they have done is a lie. The picture of the work they claimed to have done is shown here. The roofer we got explained how and why OLynns repairs were faulty and not appropriate. The photo shows the holes left in our roof by their unprofessional work.Business Response

We appreciate the Better Business Bureaus attention to the recent complaint filed by ****************** against **** Roofing. We take every customer concern seriously and are committed to addressing the issues raised in a transparent, thorough and fair manner.
Upon careful examination of the details provided, we would like to offer additional information to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the complaint:
Nature of the Repair Work: The consumer contacted **** Roofing on 8/26/22 regarding a repair to missing Roof Cap. During this conversation he indicated the roof was installed approximately 13 years prior by a company that was not ****. It is important to note that the repair work conducted by O'lyn Roofing was limited to a linear four-foot section of the Roof Cap, which in its entirety on the roofing system is approximately 40 feet.
There was no contract in place for this minor repair, nor was there a warranty offered. In regards to the consumers statement regarding a Warranty, it is roofing industry standard, not only for O'lyn Roofing, that repair work does not typically carry a warranty. This is because repairs are often performed on existing roofing systems that *** have been installed by different contractors.
Limited Scope of Repair: O'lyn Roofing did not install the entire roofing system on the property, as confirmed by the consumer. Our involvement was specifically related to the repair work mentioned earlier. As such, any issues with portions of the roof that were not part of our original installation fall outside our responsibility. The picture provided by the consumer shows the full approximately 40 feet of ridge cap that was removed. It appears that the four foot section at the end of the roof was still in tact.
Consumers Request for Refund: Per the consumer, we understand that they engaged another roofing company to replace the full ridge cap, extending beyond the initial four-foot section repaired by O'lyn Roofing for $295.00.While we acknowledge their decision to seek additional services, we must clarify that the scope of our original repair was limited and did not encompass the entire ridge cap. As such, the request for a $950.00 refund appears to go beyond the services we provided as proven by the picture they provided. It is to be noted that the person in the photo provided by the consumer is not adhering to OSHA safety requirements, which draws questions on their perceived expertise as noted in the complaint.
Allegations of Nefarious Practices: O'lyn Roofing has proudly served the community for over 50 years, completing more than ****** roof installations with a strong commitment to excellence. Our reputation is built on transparency, professionalism, and delivering high-quality results, as can be seen with ratings across any review website. Any claim of nefarious practices is unequivocally false, as evidenced by the consistently positive feedback we receive on various review websites, maintaining a five-star rating across multiple platforms.
Commitment to Customer Satisfaction: We value each customer and strive to address concerns promptly and effectively. When this complaint came forth, the General Manager reached out immediately and was told by the consumer that he was simply looking make contact with someone at the company and that there would be no further action on his part. Our General Manager, then received a late night (10:40pm), cryptic text message to a personal cell phone from the consumer stating that he would be moving forward with the complaint. While we appreciate open communication, this type of correspondence should be directed to our official business channels during regular business hours. Our goal is to ensure that our customers are satisfied and that their roofing needs are met to the highest standard.
Thank you for facilitating this communication, and we appreciate the BBBs role in ensuring fair and equitable resolutions for both consumers and businesses.Customer Answer

I spoke to **** who seemed preoccupied with the shingles that came off and how those were not the ones **** repaired. I paid **** to come out, inspect the roof and make the necessary repairs after I was informed of the problems. **** did not properly inspect my roof or repair it. They simply threw down a handful of shingles and called it a day after cashing my check. **** told me they dont offer warranties unless they build the roof and that these types of repairs were essentially a favor to people. I received a proper inspection, repair and 2 year warranty from a reputable company. This was after ************* me off and never called me back after saying their project manager would reach out to me twice and never did. I left an appropriate ****** review and for 2 weeks they did not respond to that. Only after I filed a claim with the BBB did **** call me. And they called the very next day. I paid for an inspection and repair and in less than a year I was having this repaired and inspected again, this time by a legitimate, honest business who provided a 2 year warranty on their work. ****, a company of 50 years, (which **** noted many times) does not offer warranties on their inspection or repairs. They are content doing shoddy work, taking your money and then throw their hands up and tell you it was a favor when it blows away. The first shingles that flew away were yours, I marked it last year in case the inspector needed to see it inside the attic. The more blew away because you didnt complete a proper inspection or repair.

FAQ

**** took weeks to provide a response and described my claim as a lie and lack of proof. I showed them their lack of repair and resulting damage for their poor, careless work. **** continues to play games in an attempt to get me to end my BBB claim. Their work lacked inspection, their few shingles could not cover the roof properly and now **** is taking weeks to respond because they know they are wrong. If **** asks his legal department to write a response it takes weeks. I suppose **** is unable to respond without the help of others. At no point other than the initial call did **** try to fix the problem. They want to call you, claim innocence and then get you to stop your claim. They came out, didnt inspect, threw down a few shingles, and in Todds words that was fixed. Nothing about the integrity of the rest of the ridge cap, he was fixated on we only fixed 5 shingles. 5 shingles that blew off and then more followed because they didnt inspect of fix the problem. It was less than a year that their repair blew away like my money. ****, I have the roofer who fixed your companies s**** up with me and willing to add to this if it goes farther. What kind of company screws up and hides behind a length of operation excuse (50 plus years). If you would like to meet like an adult, instead of trying to strong arm me over the phone, please let me know on this platform. I can bring along my new roofer to explain why your freelance, money grabbing workers for you are unable to do the job. I sent you more pictures then you sent me, so please **** respond, rather than have your legal team write a response over 2 weeks in the making.
