Repeatedly SplitSpot has provided misleading information, advertised wrongfully, and pulled the rug out from prospective tenants. Expressing interest in an apartment goes as far as getting a lease, but when signing its suddenly no longer valid, someone else signed. While signing an apartment, I was told 6 other people were sent the lease for this exact apartment. Finally finding a spot, I was told a $400 security deposit, and first months rent with my co-signers exceptional credit score. This was readily available on the properties page. This amount has jumped to over $1000 for a security deposit. Additionally, my co-signers qualifying score indicates a down payment of first months rent. When signing the lease I was notified this amount is now double, paying first and last months rent. Getting the lease or any further assistance has proven challenging in the first place, as SplitSpot only offers texting communication and often leaves messages sitting for hours upon hours. No phone lines are available, emails go unanswered, nobody complies with a request for supervisory support or a higher level support member. The website instructs me to text a certain number to connect with *********************** about ****** area rooms, texting this number has connected me with ******* who seems to struggle communicating in English and support staff seems to be sourced internationally. Splitspot has several times requested my money, and suddenly ripped the rug out from under me. They are playing games with the security of housing for many college students and young professionals. A lack of timely support and clear advertising and communication has led me to a last minute panic for housing plans, despite working with SplitSpot for several weeks and proactively communicating with them with nothing in return. Apartments are left on website as listings for tenant applications regardless of any pending lease, allowing people to count on housing plans which are now no longer available.
