The management of insurance and billing is horrendous. We have amazing insurance and at the start of treatment I spoke with my insurance and this office- and it was very clear what our coverage would be for my son’s treatment plan. A year into treatment I received a call from the dental office telling me to expect a significant bill, because they had not received any insurance payments. It took them an entire year to let me know there had been any issue! Once I did know about the issue, it took a single phone call from me to my insurance. The dental office was not using the proper coding. I had to do a 3way phone call with my insurance to spell out to this office proper coding. Once that was done, everything was covered as expected! HOWEVER, because it had taken so long for the dental office to address this issue, some of the treatment dates were too far in the past to be rebilled with the proper coding. The dental office manager refused to acknowledge their fault in this situation. If they had alerted me from the beginning that billing was not going through, I would have made that single phone call- and it would have been resolved in time for all the bills to be processed by my insurance. Instead WE are out more money than we should have had to pay for services- because of this office’s mistakes in billing insurance. In addition to that, I paid for a service on the day of treatment for something I knew our insurance would not cover- even if billed properly. They tried to bill me for this AGAIN a couple months later- claiming I had never paid it. I had to get my bank records to prove that it was already paid. In addition to the above, when I challanged them on the unfairness of billing us for their mistakes- they then submitted treatment dates that my son was NEVER seen on. Pretty sure that is insurance fraud!
