I spent $3,400 at the end of September 2023 to make sure my wife's car wasn't going to overheat since she has to commute almost 1 hour and 30 minutes for work. I requested a head gasket replacement since we had repaired basically everything else. The owner suggested doing the timing belt as well since it would already be open but would cost a little more to do. I figured why not, won't have to do it later. 6 months later while she is taking my brother to the airport it stalls out on her, leaving her stranded over 40 miles away. We paid $300+ to have it towed back home the day after our wedding ceremony for our family. I take it to a nearby shop to find out what happened, only to be informed that the tensioner bolt for the timing belt tensioner was over torqued and snapped while she was on the highway. The shop tells me that it would be at least $8,000 for a motor (not even the replacement.) I contacted Midas to file a claim since everyone I had talked to said they usually come with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty and the employee that answered confirmed that it was a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. 3 hours later he calls me back and tells me it's 6 month/6,000 mile warranty, when I call their corporate number they tell me that's handled at store level. All of this sounds extremely suspicious. Corporate tells me they should give me a call to discuss it. When I don't receive a call I place a review on Google and magically I get a phone that goes to voice-mail, which apparently they placed on hold and when someone did pick up they thought it was a call coming in. Had I denied the timing belt service, my wife wouldn't have been stranded in the cold and we wouldn't be searching for a ride to work everyday. I hope this helps someone else avoid the damages and disservice like I received.
