Steensma Lawn & Power Equipment Kalamazoo, MI My father ******* visited the Kalamazoo Location in the hopes of purchasing a Stihl electric chainsaw on 10/09/2023. My dad had his check book showing he owned a farm and has been in business since 1962 along with his income tax business since 1982. The man there questioned my father asking what type of farm and the use of the chain saws intended use which dad indicated. Then this salesman stated bluntly that dad could not receive an exemption for his farm. My dad was prepared to write a check for over 1,000 dollars to cover the cost of the saw. After this treatment, he left very upset. Why didn't the salesperson provide a certificate for state tax exemption when it is the business responsibility to do so? My dad is black, and I am left with the impression this individual did not want to help my father with anything. Under State of Michigan requirements To claim a sales tax exemption, businesses must provide an exemption certificate to the seller. The certificate must include the purchaser's name and address, sales tax license number, a description of the exempt items or services, and a statement explaining why the purchase is exempt. My dad had the proper information but not provided with a certificate from your salesperson. My dad deserves better treatment that being 91 years old. That salesperson owes my dad an apology for his poor customer service.

Took my Stihl chainsaw in to have helicoil done to a stripped bar stud, (one of two bolts that holds the bar onto the chainsaw.) I got it back with a note on the invoice saying they had to use an oversized bar stud and drilled a hole for what was needed. Cleaned it out before inserting the helicoil, loctited the stud before inserting it and let it sit overnight. The next day they noticed oil weeping out of the hole so they applied some sealant to prevent any further weeping. The next time I used it (two to three weeks later) I noticed the bar smoking after just cutting up four, six to seven inch diameter logs into three logs each (two cuts per log). I immediately shut it off, let it cool down and noticed the chain was dry and the bar was now burnt especially the rotary tip. I checked the oil compartment to make sure it had oil and as soon as I opened the cap oil started running out of the oil compartment onto the chain which has never happened before. The chain oiler wasn't oiling the chain evidenced by the dry chain, so the friction heated up the bar burning it up. When I brought the chainsaw To Steensma it worked perfectly except the front bar stud was stripped out and required a heli coil done on it so another stud could replace the stripped out one.The next day the mechanic left me a message saying that he couldn't work on my saw because when he started it up the chain was producing sparks as it went around the bar that I needed to buy a new bar which was about $60. Please let him know if I would be willing to buy a new bar. I called back and talked to a service tech and explained that the saw worked perfectly and when they returned it to me the chain oiler must not have been working because my bar started smoking after six cuts. They told me they would get back to me.A woman called, said the saw was old your money would be better spent buying a new saw, We never should have worked on it in the first place. Come pick up your saw.
