On February 26, 2025 I purchased a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe ** from Emir at Select Auto Group. Upon returning from the test drive, I mentioned a small mis in the engine. I and the male that attended with me were both told by Emir, "Oh it just needs new spark plugs or a $20-30.00 ignition coil, you know man, you just go to ******** and you know, you can just change them right there in the lot nothing major, it's a good truck". Grab a little machine and walked us out to the vehicle, plugged it up and showed it to my male accomplice and said "See look, a minor mis on cylinder 7, just an ignition coil, nothing major just grab one from AutoZone and your on your way. I said to Emir, I bought a car from you in 2017 and had no issues, so I am a returning customer. He said "sure no problem, glad to have you back, with this vehicle it comes with a warranty, so if anything happens later you are covered, I treat you right"! My male accomplice, then existed the office to allow me to complete the deal. I finished the paperwork, and gave Emir a down payment of $5000 cash. I received the keys and left. I ran errands locally and after about an hour and half of driving the minor mis turned into a major mis and sputtering. After picking up children 15 minutes later the vehicle sputtered and stalled. I got it started again, returned home. I took it to Emir the next day and told him I had issues the night before and he told me. "You bought it as is, just wait 2 months before you report it to insurance". I explained to him that I purchased the vehicle under him telling me it was a good vehicle with no major problems. I need a safe vehicle to drive my children around in. I do not have $5000 to throw away. I again was assured it was nothing major. I left in the vehicle and got an oil change and a tune up, and it was discovered that oil was on the plug. Took the vehicle back to another shop and it needs a new motor. The warranty company will not cover it. I have a vehicle that I cannot drive.Business Response

As with any purchase on a used vehicle the customer has the opportunity to take the vehicle to a technician for inspection. We specifically have forms that the customers signs that say " This vehicle is SOLD AS IS" . While unfortunate for the consumer she didn't take it anywhere to be looked at. The AS IS form is in two different sections of the Paperwork she signed. We offer Aftermarket warranties for just such a thing. From what I understand they won't cover it. That sounds to me like the issue should be with the ***************** We wish the consumer the best and appreciate her business.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: **** basically me to sold me the vehicle under duress. He told me that if I did not take the vehicle that night on 2/26/25 that the bank would not honor the sale on the next day. That did not allow me the opportunity to take anywhere to have it checked out. The finance manager **** was out during the sale of the vehicle. **** sold the vehicle and knew what was going on. He drove the vehicle down to the other shop Auto Sport and had them "allegedly" put in another spark plug coil. The mechanics was trying to take a spark plug coil out of a ***** Suburban. He (****) came back to me inside of Auto Sport and said the spark plug coil out of the Suburban would not work. I tried to work with him to get it rectified immediately. **** told me to drive it for 2 months and report the problem to the warranty company. Warranty denied it because they said scoring (Scrapping) happened because the engine had overheated. I did not drive it long enough to have it overheat. The finance manager **** stated that, while he could not tell me what to do. He stated " I cannot tell you what to do, but taking legal action, isn't a bad idea". ******, that sales agent stated that they had other vehicles that fell within the same price range and milage, **** said no, the bank won't honor another vehicle.
Sincerely,

The customer received 3 thousand dollars off the price of the vehicle. Used vehicles are sold AS IS. The warranty is offered so the consumer has an option in cases such as this. We are not the warranty company. Under no circumstances do we sell to consumers "under duress" . The consumer is able to walk away from the deal at anytime. Once a contract is signed the vehicle is no longer our responsibility. We are not responsible for the Warranty company. We only offer the product.Initial Complaint

11/19/2024 I bought a 2014 gmc ****** 2500hd 6.0l During the test drive everything on the truck operated as it should have. I made it approximately 44 mins down the highway to d ave to get off when the truck started violently shaking and jumping forward while holding the brake peddle down at a stop. I finally made it home after having the truck repeat this issue 3 times and stalling out. I drove back up to the dealer to try and reach an agreement for help with repairs. I recieved a quote from a transmission shop for over ****** in repairs needed due to transmission failure. The dealership that I bought the truck from said I could buy a warranty but I would have to wait for the warranty to start in order to try and get the repairs covered. After they failed to even offer me an extended warranty when purchasing the vehicle. I have spoken back and forth with the dealership and they said that the transmission shop doesnt know anything and its a small issue. I dont think a small is means almost ***** in repairs.Business Response

I really wish you had told the truth in your complaint. You absolutely were offered a warranty and declined because " you were a mechanic". In the State of Michigan all used vehicles are sold "as is" and a warranty is offered. It even says that on your paperwork that YOU signed. We are sorry for the trouble you are having . The fact is you could have taken this vehicle to a repair shop to have it inspected ( also on paperwork you signed). We took your vehicle in on trade and are having suspension issues with it. We assumed that risk. Just as you assume risk when purchasing a used vehicle. Also , no one here said your shop doesn't know what they are doing. We said we wish you had gotten another shop to look at it to confirm your shops diagnosis. The torque converter is typically what is needed ... not an entire transmission. The repair costs are much different. Again, we are sorry you had this unfortunate issue and hope it gets repaired to your satisfaction.Customer Answer

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
When I purchased the vehicle not one person brought an extended warranty to my attention. I specifically asked and the manager said we would discuss this but that never happened. I really wish YOU guys would tell the whole story instead of twisting the story line to fit what you guys want. The fact of the matter is I feel as if it was shady business and that YOU guys knew about the issue before hand. The fact of the matter is I felt like I was dealt a bad hand with this situation so therefore I filed a complaint. Im not expecting any money or compensation for this but want it to be documented for future customers to be aware of.
Sincerely,
