  Predatory practices: I was referred to The Dental Emergency Room (DER) by my orthodontist for a actual emergency. DER, rather than accept the 2 sets of x-rays provided by both my orthodontist and referring dental clinic, insisted that additional x-rays be taken using their "better" x-ray machine ($217). DER refused to perform the orthodontist's recommended procedure before obtaining approval from my insurance provider. Said approval received, the procedure was performed 9 days later. 2 wks afterward, I received a bill stating that insurance did not cover the performed procedure. My $150~ co-pay jumped to $1800~ out-of-pocket expense.Contacting my insurance provider, I was told that DER submitted an approval request for one procedure, but post-procedure submitted invoice for a different procedure not covered. The agent offered that it would be a simple matter for DER to resubmit as per the original ********** first two requests to resubmit as suggested were met with refusal. I held fast, assuring DER that I was not paying them nearly $2K when all they had to do was check a box to reduce my cost down to the more reasonable co-pay. After a 3rd call, a receipt of past-due notice (with late fees!), and a 4th call, a DER representative agreed to "see if the Dentist would change the coding" as I requested. 2 days later, I received a cancelled invoice and an updated bill for $280~.
