2 starsMisleading Advertising and Warranty Limitations – Standard Water Control
I hired Standard Water Control to install a perimeter drain tile system, based on strong claims from their website, brochure, and salesman that it would protect my home from basement water issues for the lifetime of the foundation. Their materials state: “Our quality drain tile installation will give you assurance against future water seepage for the lifetime of your foundation,” and their website includes testimonials from customers in high water table areas who report complete moisture prevention.
However, I later learned from the company’s owner and quality control specialist that the system only protects the one-foot perimeter of the basement where the tile is installed. Water entering anywhere else—including through the center of the floor—is not covered. This directly contradicts the representations I received prior to installation.
I spent over $14,000 on this system, believing it would solve my water problems. When I experienced seepage through the basement slab and raised concerns, I was told that complete protection would require ripping out the entire foundation and adding a moisture barrier—something never mentioned during sales discussions. I was also told that their warranty is similar to a “free phone” offer: it sounds good in marketing, but the fine print tells a different story.
In addition, installation damaged my property. A large truck cracked my driveway and parts of my basement walls were damaged. The company's contract language exempts them from nearly all damage caused by their work.
This experience was deeply disappointing. The sales pitch and advertising were misleading, and customer concerns—especially regarding health risks due to ongoing moisture—were dismissed. I urge others to read the contract closely and not rely on verbal assurances or promotional language.Standard Water Control Systems

While we understand your frustration, we want to clarify a few points about your situation and the scope of the work performed.The moisture you are currently experiencing is not water intrusion from the foundation walls or perimeter of your basement, but rather natural moisture wicking up through the center of your concrete slab. This area was not included in the scope of work we performed, as our system is designed and warranted to manage water along the perimeter of the foundationwhere water pressure and intrusion are most common.Preventing moisture from wicking through the center of a basement slab requires a full moisture barrier beneath the slab, which can only be installed by excavating and reconstructing the flooran extensive process not included in our drain tile installation services. This is why our warranty specifically covers only the areas where our system is installed.While our marketing highlights the effectiveness of our perimeter drain tile system in mitigating basement water issues, we do not advertise that it can eliminate moisture transmission through the center of a slab without a moisture barrier. We regret any misunderstanding during your sales consultation and will take your feedback to ensure that our representatives are even clearer about these distinctions going forward.Regarding the concerns about property damage, we strive to minimize any impact during installation and address issues as they arise. Our contracts disclose potential risks associated with heavy equipment use, which is standard for this type of work. This is the first we are hearing of any damages.We truly value our customers and want to ensure expectations are clear so that our solutions are the right fit for each home.
