On August 5, 2024 I contacted IJL about possibly hiring them as a match maker. I have high standards and was very clear with the match maker I spoke to that my faith is the most important criteria for me. I specifically asked her if she thought she had clients who met my standards. I very clearly told her to be honest with me because I did not want to waste my money. She emphatically said she did have clients. After I paid $2,400 to be matched with at least 6 individuals within 6 months, everything fell apart. I was told I had to agree to all of the contracts which were emailed and would not allow any matches until I agreed. The first two matches were far from fitting my standards. Specifically on faith. I have been emailing with the agency and they are refusing to refund anything. I am not asking for a full refund. I asked for $1600 since I had two matches even though they did not meet my standards. I was very clearly mislead by very deceptive sales practices. Because this is a private dating services, it is apparent they prey on peoples’ desires of privacy and do not think someone will complain publicly. I asked them before I paid if they thought I was being too picky, the match maker assured me I was not and she definitely had people in mind. She flat out lied. There is no other way to explain it. I would have never paid the funds if she would have honestly told me I was being very picky. I would rather not compromise my principals.Business Response

We are writing in response to your inquiry regarding the membership of *** *******
*** ****** became an It’s Just Lunch (IJL) Client, for the third time and signed a non-refundable contract with *** ******* ********** **** on 8/24/2024 (attached for your reference).
After reviewing this complaint and the membership, we would like to provide the very specific guarantees that are detailed in the agreement *** ****** signed when she agreed to become a Client:
“All introductions will be within the preferred criteria provided by Client at the time of join with respect to age, religion, and parental status. If IJL presents a match that is outside of the Client's preferred criteria with respect to age, religion, and parental status, Client has the discretion to accept the introduction and schedule a date with that match.”
Her specific preferences for these criteria, acknowledged via her signature on 8/05, are:
· Age of 54 – 68
· Catholic, Christian and Protestant for religion
· Open on parental status
Of the gentlemen *** ****** met on this membership, all of them fit within these criteria. We use all other preferences discussed during her interview (i.e., marital status, etc) as an additional guide when selecting matching, however, they’re not guaranteed.
With reference to her statement, “I was told I had to agree to all of the contracts which were emailed and would not allow any matches until I agreed,” she was sent one contract on 8/5 and, yes, anytime money is exchanged with a business, the contract needs to be signed before services, or in this case introductions, could be arranged.
No one is asking *** ****** to compromise her principles. She stated her preferences while speaking to her Matchmaker, Kim, and we set up introductions for her to meet. Specifically, she met Michael on 8/14/24 and **** on 9/15/24. We have more men we would like *** ****** to meet and would love to be able to move forward with her membership.
At this point, there is no option of a refund. *** ******’s membership is currently on hold to preserve her active dating time. If she chooses to come off hold, she can simply call the office directly. If *** ****** chooses to not take her membership off hold, it will naturally expire on 3/30/25.Customer Answer

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowThe information they are providing for my match is over 10 years old. When I spoke with the sales person, I specifically told her I only wanted to meet men who are practicing Catholics ONLY. I even asked if she had enough clients in mind because I did not want to waste my money. She emphatically said there are plenty. She clearly used deceptive sales practices to get me to commit. Additionally since I filed my complaint I have read other complaints made against the Cleveland IJL office. I am not the first woman who has filed a complaint that the office mislead based of Christian/Catholic faith. I am very concerned that they are taking advantage of a Christian’s trust and using deceptive practices.
I do not accept their reply, they are refusing to acknowledge nor address my complaint that the sales representative clearly lied to me to get me to agree to sign up.

I attempted to cancel my member during the initial 7 day cancellation period per IJL's contract and was told I would be unable to get refund. I was interviewed about my preferences and what I was looking for in terms of age, race/ethnicity, height, marital status, etc. It was implied that I would be going out on a lot of dates however, I was lucky to have gone out on the 3 of 4 dates offered to me in a three month period for 2300 dollars. The only thing IJL honored from my preferences was the dates were with single men. They are only trying to fulfill their contracts but don't actually have the clientale to conduct matches based off of client preferences. I also believe that IJL fabricates the matches profiles for this same reason. My matches told me things that were totally different from what was reported by IJL. My first match was not the height or the race/ethnicity that I was looking to match with. I was told that he was a pet lover and that he enjoys traveling. The match told me how he cooked and fed his children's pet chicken to them and then told them. Also, I when I spoke with him about traveling he informed me that he doesn't like to traveling because he use to do so for work. My second match also wasn't within my preference guidelines. He is almost 50 years and lives with his parents whom I believe may have been responsible for paying for his IJL membership based off of conversation during our date. IJL set me up with a gentleman who is Greek only looking for a realtionship with a Greek woman per his mother's wishes. Needless to say I am African American and was told by him that we could never be in a relationship, his mother wouldn't allow it. Match no. 3 was 15 years my senior and a good number of years outside of the age range that I provided or was interested in dating. At this point IJL has been made aware of on serveral occasions on what my preferences were and yet again I was contacted for a 4/final date outside of my criteria of which I declined.Business Response

To Whom It May Concern:
*** ******* became an It’s Just Lunch (IJL) Client and signed a non-refundable contract on 9/18/2023. (Attached for your reference). *** *******’s membership was for 3 months or 3 date introductions (whichever comes last). *** ******* attended 3 dates and received a total of 4 date introductions in the span of her 3 months of membership. *** ******* was presented with her final match on 12/11/23 via voicemail. *** *******’s Client Advisor followed up her on 12/12, 12/13, and 12/14 – attempting to gather availability to schedule a date between her and her final match. *** ******* spoke with her Client Advisor on 12/14/23 and declined to meet this match. *** ******* declined to provide further explanation. *** *******’s date introduction guarantee was exceeded, and her active time expired on 12/18/23, effectively completing her membership agreement.Per our agreements,
“Membership fees are not refundable outside of the completion and submission of the state required notice of cancellation. Except as otherwise provided herein, membership fees are nonrefundable. IJL will make reasonable efforts to provide Client with an average minimum of one introduction per month while membership is in active status. Client may receive additional introductions depending on Client's criteria and availability, and the availability of members that Client is matched with. Under no circumstances shall the membership have a duration of service for a period in excess of three years. Your electronic signature here acknowledges your receipt of the cancellation terms: **** *******”
As you can see by the contract verbiage referenced above, our fees are not refundable. *** ******* acknowledged and accepted these terms by signing the contract on 9/18/2023.
Additionally, regarding *** *******’s comments on the cancellation window, we find it important to clarify. We do not have a ‘7-day cancellation window’ as *** ******* claims. Rather, per local law, any client can cancel a membership and obtain a refund within 3 business days of signing an agreement by following the members right to cancel included in our agreements, referenced below:“To cancel this contract you must deliver in person, manually, by certified mail, return receipt requested, or by facsimile transmission, the signed and dated copy of this cancellation notice or any other written notice of cancellation, or send an electronic mail message, to IJL at **** ******** ****** *** ***** **** ************ ********* ****** *** ************* ** ***************************** not later than midnight of the third business day after the date on which the first service under the contract is available, and if the facility or service that is the subject of the contract is not available when the contract was signed, not later than midnight of the seventh business day after the date on which the first service under the contract is available.
I acknowledge that I have a received the written notice of cancellation form that is attached to this Agreement and been notified of my right to cancel this Agreement under Ohio law. I also acknowledge that I have been provided with a copy of this Agreement for my personal records. Your electronic signature here acknowledges your receipt of the cancellation terms: **** ******e”
As *** ******* mentions in her complaint and shown in her supporting document of the facsimile sent to the included phone number on her contract, *** ******* requested a refund on 9/25/23, outside of the state mandated 3-day cancellation window outlined in her agreement. Service was immediately available and provided to *** ******* the same day she signed her agreement – therefore, the 7-day window mentioned in our agreement does not apply. *** ******* was first contacted by her Client Advisor on 9/26/23 regarding her request to cancel, and a phone conversation was then had on 9/27/23 with multiple members of our team regarding the matter. *** *******’s Client Advisor explained to her that the refund request was not within the 3-day window outlined in her agreement, and a refund was neither appropriate nor due. Antoine’s first date had already been previously confirmed on 9/21/23, and was set to occur that evening – on 9/27/23. *** ******* understood and agreed to move forward with her membership. As mentioned previously, *** ******* attended 3 dates and received 4 introductions during her 3 months of membership. *** *******’s membership guaranteed a minimum of 3 introductions, and she was provided with 4 introductions, exceeding the terms of her agreement. We work as professional matchmakers to introduce our clients to other like-minded singles who we think they may enjoy. However, dating is still dating – regardless of how you meet. Per our *** *******’s signed agreement,
“Client is eligible to receive a total of three (3) Date Introductions or three (3) Months, whichever comes last. A Date Introduction is defined as any selected match that fits Client's preferred criteria discussed during the initial interview, with respect to age, religion and parental status. All Date Introductions will be within the criteria provided by Client at the time of join with respect to age, religion, and parental status. If IJL presents a Date Introduction that is outside of the Client's criteria with respect to age, religion and parental status, Client may agree to accept the Date Introduction at Client's discretion. ”
At the time of her interview with a matchmaker, *** ******* shared she was open to the following preferences:
Age range: 40-55
Religion: Open, believe in a higher power
Parental Status: Doesn’t Matter
All 4 date introductions *** ******* received were valid introductions per her agreement. *** ********s first date was 53 years old, catholic, and had 2 children. *** ******* claims her second date was only open to dating women of Greek descent – this is simply false. Although we cannot control or foresee what reasons a client may choose to share on a date on why they would not be interested in continuing to get to know someone, we can confirm this client was fully aware of *** *******’s profile, description, background, ethnicity, ect; before agreeing to meet her. If a client ever changes their mind and is no longer open to meeting someone, it is their responsibility to inform us, which did not and to date, still has not happened with this client. This date was 48 years old, Christian, with one child. *** *******’s third introduction was 62, Catholic, with one child. This introduction was presented to *** ******* as an option outside of her preferred dating age range, and *** ******* accepted the introduction knowing this information and scheduled and
attended the date. Therefore, this was also a valid introduction. *** ******* even provided positive feedback after this date that this match “looked way better” than she thought and “looks so good for his age” and exchanged information, also stating she would see him again for a second date. The fourth and final introduction presented to *** ******* on 12/14/23 was 49, Spiritual, with 2 children.
As you can see, all 4 introductions presented to *** ******* were valid introductions per her signed agreement.
We absolutely do not fabricate any client information. We rely on our clients to provide us with accurate information when it comes to their profiles. If at any time that information is found to be inaccurate, correction action is taken, and it is immediately addressed. Every client agrees to provide us with accurate information during their lengthy interviews, with a penalty of membership termination (with no refund) if it is not. However, we are confused by the statements made in this complaint, because *** ******* made no such statements regarding inaccurate information at any point in time to any of her matchmakers here at IJL.*** *******’s membership was serviced appropriately, and the terms of her agreement were exceeded. Our fees are non-refundable. We enjoyed working with her as a client and wish her the very best.

I am not quite sure if this is miscommunication or outright fabrication on IJL’s part but first off, I am a Christian and identify myself as such. I don’t feel that saying I believe in a higher power accurately captures my religious beliefs and someone else’s higher power may not be considered Christian. I have some hard and fast rules about what I am looking for in a mate which it comes to religious denominations/beliefs and political affiliation. I was never provided with my matches religious denomination as a part of their profiles. I was only provided with their races/ethnicities, age, height, eye color, occupation, and interests/hobbies. Secondly, I complained on several occasions, once to *** and several times to my matchmaker ******. I complained about Match #1’s appearance and hygiene. I told by ****** that he loves animals and to travel he indicated the total opposite. He even lied about his height. Furthermore, I was livid about the date with Match #2 and told ****** as much. I asked her why she would set me up with a person that is only looking for Greek women and I am African American. Match #2 spent the entire date making racist comments about the other races/ethnicities that scam people of money. I also told ****** about the concerns I had for my safety because even though he said he is only seeking Greek women; I couldn’t get rid of him. He didn’t want the date to end and was very insistent on coming home with me. I had to be quite firm with him. And after all this ****** asks did, we exchange phone numbers. I guess she forgot that I’m not Greek. Lastly, I complained to ****** about Match #3 before we went on the date. When ****** read his profile, I was fit to be tied when she said he was 62. I am disappointed with IJL’s matchmaking services because they didn’t provide me anything other that three of the most expensive blind dates ever, averaging about 750 dollars apiece. Also, one really takes a risk using their service because they only guarantee to match with people with regards to age, parental status, and religion. So, people could be match with people whom are married or in my case I was matched with a man that was only looking for Greek women, whom still lives at home with his parents.Customer Answer

I am rejecting the IJL's response because they violated our contract with respect to religion and age. Not to mention false advertisement, bait and switch and unethical practices. When I had my initial consultation with *** prior to paying any monies or signing a contact, she led me to believe that I would be going on numerous dates. However, I was lucky to be offered the four dates and on average was provided with one new match per month. *** also interviewed me about what I was looking for in a match such as interests, height, age so on and so forth. However, nothing was ever asked of me about the religious preference I wanted to be matched with. She just asked me about my religious denomination. I wondered why IJL even bothers with the other formalities if they are not going to contractually going to follow them. Also, as I mentioned before of my four matches no one ever provided me with their religious background for me to make an informed decision in regard to that aspect. My matchmaker ****** contacted about three of my four matches, and she never mentioned anything about the matches religious backgrounds and another matchmaker at IJL contacted me about match number #2 because she was his match matcher and she never informed me as well about his religious denomination either. However, she did inform me that I would like his appearance based off what she was seeing.
Furthermore, I utilized IJL's match making services because they were supposed to be vetting the matches and for the caliber of the clients. Based on my personal experience they couldn't be vetting these people properly because of what they willing to abide by in their contract which doesn't speak to criminal history, marital status among other things. I am sure my matches were interviewed just like I was, and I am sure they knew how admit match #2 was about matching with a Greek woman. So, I am still baffled as to why I was matched with him. I paid IJL to match me with men that I could potentially have a relationship and they set me with someone that was never a viable option for which I feel is highly unethical at the very least. Also, maybe some women might be attracted to a man that has been living with his parents for almost twenty years and almost 50, but it was a turnoff for me and something that wasn't relayed to me prior to going on the date. And match number #2 living with his parents could be normal culturally for his ethnicity. I wouldn't know because I am familiar with Medaterian culture.
Lastly, I believe that IJL fabricates and embellishes the matches profiles to make they seem more compatible. Of the three out of the four matches that I actually went out with, two of the matches profiles were completely different than what was reported to me with respect to interest/hobbies. Yet again IJL not matching me with matches that I could be potentially compatible with based off common interests. For example, it was reported to me that match number #2 had an occupation within the field of transportation industry. When you hear that it sounds more impressive right, however he actually transports trash to the landfill, Also, with respect to lack of vetting and trying to fulfill everyone's contracts, match number #2 was quite odd to say the least and had apparently been on several bad dates already because he was trying to get feedback about our date while we were still on it and he kept persisting to come home with me. I was very happy we were a public place because he was scaring me.
I am rejecting IJL response because I want a partial refund and that is something that they are not willing to give. I feel that provided something but not 2300 dollars' worth of it. I would never use their services again and I will advising other to do the same. They violated their own contact. There is nothing in the contract that provides for your safety. They are matching any old Tom, Dick, or Harry without truly vetting them. I was personally never provided with my matches religion per their contract, and I feel they purposely matched me with an unviable and unsafe match. Their services made feel not respected and like I was desperate because the men they kept matching with were outside of their contract guidelines, people that I had nothing in common with and not physically attracted to.Initial Complaint

Went out on a date today that I was set up with through its just lunch and was the worst date I’ve ever been on to say the least. As soon as I came to the restaurant the guy looked like he was old enough to be my father after telling Ashley from its just lunch cleveland my age range. The guy was so quick to want to leave so he could get food claiming that he was hungry and didn’t want to eat food there since he told me he doesn’t like eating out at fancy restaurants. I was trying to get to know him and he wasn’t really talking to me and was very awkward. I think that it’s due to he was paid to meet up with me through its just lunch so they can fill the slots I believe he worked through it’s just lunch. It’s just lunch is a fraudulent company and I am sad to say that I have wasted my money from a scam company who sets you up on dates with employees through its just lunch. I have even read other reviews too of other people claiming the same thing. I remember reading one review how this one lady went out with this one guy that she was set up with through its just lunch and he ended up telling her he worked through its just lunch and needed to show up since it’s on the contract that they have to set you up with a date and they didn’t have anyone else available. I am so glad I don’t have to owe anymore money to this scam company and that I cancelled with them. I had better luck on the online dating sites where guys even went as far as to pay for my meal vs on its just lunch only one guy I went out with was nice enough to pay for my meal after paying 100.00 a month and going out with 5 guys. Plus a 300.00 down payment. I paid 500.00 total to this company now they want me to pay them an additional $1500.00 for terrible dates and claim they give no refunds.Business Response

Please see attached response and supporting documents.
To whom it may concern,
Ms. ******* **** became an It’s Just Lunch (IJL) client and signed a non-refundable agreement with us on 12/12/2022. A copy of *** *****s signed agreement is attached. Per our agreements,“Membership fees are not refundable outside of the completion and submission of the state required notice of cancellation. Your electronic signature here acknowledges your receipt of the cancellation terms: Brianna Nicole Bath”
IJL has found success being in business for over 30 years - our thousands of happy clients currently dating with us or in relationships, even in verified reviews on this page, make this very clear. With a BBB review score of 4.56/5 stars and an A- overall rating, the comparison of our service to a scam is nonsensical. First, we find it important to clarify that the Cleveland IJL franchise is not involved in any ongoing class action lawsuits.
While our records of the contact between *** **** and our team differ from what she has shared here, we regret if *** **** may have interpreted our membership structures any differently.
At the time of her enrollment, *** **** chose to finance her enrollment fee of $1500 through a third-party financing company. *** **** placed a down payment to IJL of $300 and completed a signed financing agreement for the remaining balance of $1200. This agreement was for monthly payments of $110.02 for 12 months. To date, *** **** has a balance of $1251.08. These payments are paid directly to and managed by a third party, Universal Account Servicing, and are not through IJL. This agreement is also attached.
As explained to *** **** by multiple members of our team, all payments were explained verbally multiple times in her initial call with a matchmaker, as well as in both of her signed agreements. We would hope anyone signing a legally binding agreement would clarify any questions they may have regarding the document prior to providing a signature and payment. However, if an individual chooses not to read this information or clarify the information being shared with them in that initial call, that is outside of our control.
*** **** has attended 5 dates in just over a 8-week period after enrolling as a client. *** **** exchanged information with and shared she was planning see 2 of these 5 men for a second date. We work hard as professional matchmakers to introduce our clients to a variety of people that they normally wouldn’t have the chance to meet - all with the goal of creating an initial connection that may lead to something more. However, we cannot take the dating out of dating –although we cannot guarantee mutual chemistry or attraction on every date, it is clear we were introducing *** **** to men we thought she was going to enjoy – and she did.
We absolutely do not hire anyone to attend dates with our clients. We exclusively work with other invested individuals that are serious about finding that special someone. As previously mentioned, IJL exceeded our guarantee stated in *** *****s agreement of an average minimum of one introduction per month, providing *** **** with 5 introductions in a 2.5-month timeframe - an average of two introductions per month. With that being said, *** *****s claim that “I think that it’s due to he was paid to meet up with me through its just lunch so they can fill the slots” does not make sense. As we have doubled the frequency stated in her agreement, another introduction this month was something we were not contractually required to do – *** *****s claim is completely without merit. As for the content of her date, while we cannot control what happens on a date, we find it important to remind *** **** that there are low pressure introductions – we cannot take the dating out of dating. As we shared with *** **** in her very first phone call with her Client Advisor, we always ask the restaurant to split the checks to lend to this casual, low pressure setting. We cannot take the dating out of dating and all clients are expected to pay their own bills - if one party offers to pay that is, of course, a kind gesture, but not required nor should it be expected due to the nature of our low pressure dates and the expectation of splitting the bill that we set in our very first phone calls with each and every client.*** **** shared her preferred age range during her initial call with a matchmaker. *** *****s most recent match was only 1 year outside of this age range. Our records prove that her most recent matches age was indeed shared with *** **** prior to accepting the introduction, and *** **** decided to move forward with scheduling this date knowing his age in advance. Although it appears from her initial reactions from this date that it was not a fit, it is still a valid introduction. Per our agreements,
“All Date Introductions will be within the criteria provided by Client at the time of join with respect to age, religion, and parental status. If IJL presents a Date Introduction that is outside of the Client's criteria with respect to age, religion and parental status, Client may agree to accept the Introduction at Client's discretion. If declined, such Date Introduction will not be counted towards the average monthly minimum”
We do not force anyone to accept a date introduction – the choice is up to each client. This includes introductions within these preferences, as well as introductions that may be outside of these preferences that we think are worthwhile to hear about.
We received notice of *** *****s monthly membership dues cancellation on 2/16/23. This is a very expensive dating service. I am 68 years old and PRIOR to signing the contract I asked two very important questions of ***. 1. Do you have enough men my age? Her answer was yes. Second- the contract states you only get three dates in three months?? She said ( and I have a screen shot of this) "we never stop at three". They did not have enough men as evidenced by a man I met who volunteered to me that he was only on this dating service " because they called me and asked me to come back and gave me a discount because they do not have enough men." Two of the four men I met were not at all selected matches to me - for example I travel overseas a lot, one of the men has never left the US. They kept harping on their contract of three dates and that they fulfilled it- but not as I was told they would. The caliber of the service was not close to what one would expect for $2100.00. I could have found better than 2 of these men on dating sites. I tried communicating with their regional manager, after three attempts to get her to answer my questions, all she did was send me the contract, cut and paste it and say I had four dates. I tried to tell her that the reason I met two of the men is not because their service " used their skills to match us" but because that's all they had due to their lack of men my age. Which I was told, before signing the contract, was not a problem only to find out it was. When I told her what that man told me-and I quoted him- she basically told me he made it up or I mis-understood !!! I did not ask for a full refund-only $1000.00 of the $2100.00 I paid.Business Response

Please see attached signed non-refundbale agreement and appropriate response to Ms. **** *****'s complaint. Thank you!
Ms. **** ***** became an It’s Just Lunch (IJL) client and signed a non-refundable agreement with us on 09/2/2022. A copy of Ms. ******* signed agreement is attached. Per our agreements,
“Membership fees are not refundable outside of the completion and submission of the state required notice of cancellation. Your electronic signature here acknowledges your receipt of the cancellation terms: **** *****”
“Client is eligible to receive a total of three (3) Date Introductions or three (3) Months, whichever comes last. A Date Introduction is defined as any selected match that fits Client's preferred criteria discussed during the initial interview, with respect to age, religion and parental status. All Date Introductions will be within the criteria provided by Client at the time of join with respect to age, religion and parental status. If IJL presents a Date Introduction that is outside of the Client's criteria with respect to age, religion and parental status, Client may agree to accept the Date Introduction at Client's discretion. If declined, such Date Introduction will not be included in the three (3) Date Introductions. Except as expressly provided herein, if Client does not accept the Date Introduction for any other reason, the Date Introduction will count toward the total three (3) Date Introductions available under this Agreement. Once three (3) Date Introductions have been provided or three (3) Months have passed, whichever comes last, IJL will be deemed to have fulfilled its obligations under the terms of this agreement and this Agreement will expire.”
As you can see, the membership Ms. ***** purchased was for 3 months of active dating time, or 3 date introductions – whichever came last. During Ms. Brody’s time as a client with us, Ms. Brody was active for over 3 months and received 7 introductions – over double the stated minimum number of introductions guaranteed by her signed agreement. Out of these 7 introductions, Ms. Brody attended 5 dates during her 3-month membership. I have included the list of introductions Ms. ***** received below.
** ***** **** ** ***** ** ***** ** ***** **** ** ***** ** **** **** ** ****** ** **** ** *** ********** ********** *** ****** **** ************ *** ** ***** ** ****** **** ** ******
Ms. ******* claims that she felt we ‘did not have enough men’ could not be farther from the truth. Although we cannot control what another client may say on a date nor can we provide any details of another clients’ membership due to our strict confidentiality policies, we can assure Ms. ***** we only work with other invested individuals who have proactively reached out to us to make a change in their personal life. Regardless, we provided Ms. ***** with 7 introductions and over 3 months of active time while she was a client, and her membership naturally expired after the terms were exceeded. Per Ms. ******* signed agreement, “IJL will make reasonable efforts to provide Client with an average minimum of one introduction per month while membership is in active status.” In general, all of our clients hear from us every few weeks and hear about a match on average about once a month – this is completely normal and a rate at which Ms. ******* membership more than doubled.
As stated to Ms. ***** previously by multiple members of our team, our fees are non-refundable. We wish her the best.Customer Answer

BEFORE I signed the contract I saw the 3 dates or 3 months and questioned that as it seemed a lot of money for three dates. I asked *** Rosenberg, my initial contact, " what happens if you need 12 dates ( clearly exaggerating ) until you have a good match ? " For $2100 it seemed like not very good odds of meeting someone if you would only get three chances. I have attached a screen shot of the text of her answer-where she clearly says "we do not stop at three."
Of the four dates I did have, two were men that a professional match making service should never have matched me with as we had nothing in common at all.
One was thinking about moving out of Cleveland !!
The other has never left the US- my #1 need in a match was clearly their interest in travelling all over the world- I had just returned from Croatia !
Ok-so bad matches happen but then, they should have added at least two more to replace these two. This goes to the second lie *** told me BEFORE I signed this contract. I asked- do you have enough men my age? She said yes. I kept asking why they did not have more dates for me after these "no-match dates and they kept telling me how they were working to find the "perfect match"-then I got the guy who would not travel. Clearly the reason was they did not have any more men -which I found out to be true by the man I met who told me he was SOLICITED and GIVEN A DISCOUT to join BECAUSE THEY NEEDED Men. When I asked about this they told me he "must have mis-understood"-that is tough to do-they were basically calling a member a liar.
Lastly, they are now talking about and sent you the number of "introductions" which is a word that never came up until I started to complain. It seems to refer to the men they told you about.
On my list of seven ( think about that for $2100 !) there is a name *******. They told me about *******, I gave them my availability and they were going to call me with his availability. Days went by, I followed up. " we have not heard back from him." Over a week later I asked again and was told " ******* does not have time to date right now." That sounds pretty strange for a guy paying to be on this service?
When they started sending me this "introduction" list, I told them about ******* and that he should really not count as an introduction. For all I know- ******* could not even exist ? Perhaps they did not have anyone and used this to fill the gap in the weeks until they did ??
Bottom line is I signed this contract after being given false information by *** Rosenberg of It's Just Lunch. As it turns out, had she told me the truth, I never would have joined because I was right- they did not have enough men and 3 or 4 dates is not enough over a three month period.
I only asked for a partial not a full refund which I think , due to the false pretenses TOLD TO ME BY THEIR REPRESENTATIVE, under which I signed this contract, I am entitled.
Thank you

Please see attached additional response.
****,
Your assumptions that the matches we selected for you prove that we ‘did not have enough men’ are not based in fact. There are many reasons why each match is made. Not every match is going to check every box in terms of interests, life experience, attraction, ect; nor do we ever claim that every match is going to like you or that you are going to like every match. To put it plainly, we cannot take the dating out of dating.Additionally, we cannot control other clients’ schedules – that is part of working with real people. This is why all our clients can choose to place their membership on a ‘hold’ status – they may need a break, might be busy with work or family obligations, or have had an unforeseen emergency come up. Our clients are busy professionals who may need to pause dating from time to time for numerous reasons – this does not change how serious they are about finding that special someone – nor can we control when this may happen. This may mean that you are introduced to someone (like ******* who you mentioned) and it does not result in a date being scheduled at that time. We always wish to revisit that match down the line when both clients are available again, but that may not always be possible. This is still a valid introduction – we cannot control the availability of another client, nor can we know in advance when a client may elect to place their membership on hold. However, we always move forward and continue to match our clients when this sort of circumstance occurs – just like we did with you.
Our role is to provide opportunities for our clients to meet people they wouldn’t otherwise had the chance to meet. Whether or not there is chemistry, attraction, or enough interest for a second date – is out of our control. We would not ‘replace a date’ simply because someone did not have the same level of interest in travelling, or that someone was contemplating moving their place of residence. It is the responsibility of our clients to keep us updated throughout their membership with any major changes, but simply considering a residential move does not prohibit someone from dating through us if they are in our service area – especially if they have never shared that information with our teams. Having received 7 introductions on a 3-month, 3- date introduction membership clearly shows that your assumption of ‘not having enough men’ or that we ‘lied to you’ is not based in fact. If it was, you would have not been introduced to over double the number of matches as stipulated in your agreement. To be clear, if we did not have enough men that we felt were a good fit for you, we would NOT have taken you on as a client, nor would you have received over double the number introductions guaranteed in your membership.
The screenshot of the text you provided in this complaint from a matchmaker states, “I don’t know anyone who has been on 12 dates in 3 months, but we don’t stop at 3”, and that is a factual statement. If we stopped at 3 introductions, you would not have received a total of 7 introductions, and we would have stopped after the minimum 3 introductions were met – which we most certainly did not. Your agreement has the same statement – your membership was for whichever comes LAST, 3 months of active time, or 3 introductions. Per your agreement,
“Client is eligible to receive a total of three (3) Date Introductions or three (3) Months, whichever comes last.”Additionally, we cannot control what a match says on a date. Regardless, prospective clients may receive discounts for many reasons. Just like any business, we may choose to offer discounts to our services during certain times. All clients are invested and serious about finding that special someone – they would not have made the investment if they were not. Nevertheless, as professional matchmakers, we are always connecting with potential clients who have proactively expressed interest in working with us or whom may have worked with us in the past about potential match opportunities. This is a normal part
of the matchmaking process. We work diligently to always ensure our client base is diverse and balanced – and we would never bring on any client if we felt we did not have what they were looking for. Therefore, your claim that you signed “the contract under false pretenses” is not based in fact. Every prospective client can ask as many questions as they would like, review our agreement in full, and ultimately decided for themselves whether they wish to move forward with signing said contract and providing payment for the services stated therein. Our agreements are clear in what we provide, and what we do and do not guarantee as it pertains to the facets of said membership, including the overview of date introductions and it’s definition. We’re unsure why you would claim you have never heard that term before, as we use it in daily conversations, and it is described fully in our agreements. The membership your purchased was for 3 months of active dating time and a minimum of 3 date introductions, which is explained clearly and the details of which were provided to you prior to signing said agreement and providing payment. We would hope any prospective client would read a legally binding contract in full prior to signing and providing payment for the services stated in our agreements, but that is up to each individual to determine for themselves.
Regardless of your personal belief as it pertains to the validity of matches, your signed agreement is clear in what constitutes as a valid date introduction and what does not. The list of date introductions we included in our previous response is accurate as it pertains to your membership. Any introduction provided to a client that fits the criteria mentioned in our agreements (age, religion, parental status) as discussed in an initial interview, counts as a valid introduction on every client’s membership, regardless if the date is scheduled, which is clearly explained in our agreements and has been explained to you previously, including the definitions in our previous response. You attended 5 dates on a membership that guaranteed only 3 date introductions. We provided you with 7 valid date introductions and over 3 months of active time – again, over double the number of introductions guaranteed to you during your 3-month membership as stated in your signed agreement. This effectively expired your membership after the terms were exceeded.
In conclusion, after providing you with 7 introductions during your 3-month membership, it is clear we exceeded the terms of your signed agreement. No false statements of any kind were supplied to you by any member of our team prior to signing an agreement and purchasing a membership, during your membership, or after your membership concluded. No refund, partial or full, of any kind will be considered now or in future. We wish you the best.Customer Answer

In the contract it states two things that make the response not true-again showing how IJL fudges the truth:
All Date Introductions will be within the criteria provided by Client at the time of join with respect to age, religion and parental status. If IJL presents a Date Introduction that is outside of the Client's criteria with respect to age, religion and parental status, Client may agree to accept the Date Introduction at Client's discretion. If declined, such Date Introduction will not be included in the three (3) Date Introductions.
So- since I declined to meet *****- he should not count as an introduction bringing that number down from 7 to 6.
Again I do not know how they count ******* as an introduction just because they mentioned his name to me-de declined so he should not be counted either
Also
Matching me with someone who does not like to travel DOES NOT meet the standards of the contract where it states "ALL INTRODUCTIONS WILL BE WITHIN THE CRITIERIA PROVIDED BY THE CLIENT. IJL did not follow the letter of the contract.

This company was non-responsive when I would request to be set up on date. With more than a week’s notice to schedule one on provided days I specifically pre-paid my membership so I would not have monthly membership costs and IJL proceeds to charge me monthly for my “on hold” cost. A few days ago I emailed the company to ask to take my membership off of hold so they can start setting me up on dates again and I provided some dates that I would be available for them to make an arrangement and it took them several days to get back to me and when she spoke to me on the phone today, she told me that I should wait to activate my dating until January and I explained that I have more than a week available with nothing to do in my evenings and sometimes even daytime where I would be available to schedule a date and she still didn’t wanna schedule one with me during that time. I have been very disappointed in the service this company has provided and I do not at all feel like I’ve been matched the way that they said they were Going to match me nor do I feel the dating pool is very large to choose from in my area. I was very specific about going on a date with someone that’s within 30 minutes of where I live and the very first date was set up with a gentleman that lives an hour and a half away, and they set us up on a date downtown Cleveland when it was very busy it cost $40 for each of us to park, of which they would not reimburse us for nor apologize for. I was on only three/ four dates and only one time did the check splitting service that they claimed to have educated the venue about so it wouldn’t be awkward at the time of payment, Actually work that way. We were putting that awkward position where one of us would have to pay or we would have to ask the server to split the check and that was supposed to be part of the service for the awkwardness is not part of the conversation. I would like all the monthly payments returned and half of the initial costBusiness Response

I have provided an email correspondence from November 16 which was responded to a November 19 where I was looking to be matched up on a date this thread goes all the way through November 30 with no date planned this is
[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]
On multiple occasions I reached out wanting to be set up on a date versus the company proactively working to check my availability to be set up on one. An example that I attached was me reaching out to IJL on November 16 not getting a response until the 19th then you can see the email Chain shows me continuing to reach out through like November 29 or 30th still without any dates scheduled or any communication around an anticipated match.I also sent screenshots of a $588 refund that I was issued. I believe this was because I was continuing to be charged when I wanted to pre-pay for the monthly‘s then to be notified when my monthly prepaid‘s were about to expire so I could pre-pay them again I did not want a monthly charge on my credit card. Eventually I ended up authorizing it but it is not how I arranged payment initially, I prepaid and did not authorize monthly charges.
For a concierge service, the communication in the pro activity and excitement around the service was severely lacking. The service at the sales person sold in the service that was delivered to me by Miss Malone was miss matched.
I also contests the fact that they said they sent me up on nine dates I did not go out on seven dates I do know that I canceled two but I don’t recall nine introductions I would love for them to show me which ones those were.
I feel the concessions I am asking for a reasonable, I would like half of my dues that I paid returned.

o whom it may concern,
Ms. ******** has referenced in her rebuttal that “On multiple occasions I reached out wanting to be set up on a date versus the company proactively working to check my availability to be set up on one. An example that I attached was me reaching out to IJL on November 16 not getting a response until the 19th then you can see the email Chain shows me continuing to reach out through like November 29 or 30th still without any dates scheduled or any communication around an anticipated match. “
Per *** ********’s signed agreement, we guarantee an average minimum of one introduction per month. As mentioned in our previous response, Ms. ******** received 9 introductions during her 4.5 months of active dating time with us – equating to an average of 2 introductions per month, and double the average stated in her agreement. Our clients hear from us on average every 2-3 weeks, and hear about an introduction about once a month. Because we work with real people and real schedules, just because a client may provide us certain availability and expresses interest in scheduling a date for those specific dates, does not mean it is possible for us, nor are we obligated to schedule a date for those exact dates they are available. In the example Ms. ******** provided in this complaint, Ms. ******** had been a client for less than two months as of November 2021. At that point in her membership, Ms. ******** had been provided with 4 introductions in less than 6 weeks, much above our average minimum of one introduction per month.
A timeline of *** ********’s introductions are as follows, per *** ********’s request:
10/5/21 – Introduced to **** *** ******
10/9/21 – Date with ****
11/5/21 – Date with *****
11/6/21 – Date with *******
12/3/21 – Date with *****
(Ms. ******** placed her membership on hold from 12/14/21-2/1/22)
2/16/22 – Date with ****
3/16/22 – Date with **** (Ms. ******** cancelled this date)
(Ms. ******** placed her membership on hold 3/15/22-6/9/22)
6/22/22 – Date with **********
7/15/22 – Date with Steven (Ms. ******** cancelled this date)
(Ms. ******** placed her membership on hold from 7/6/22-12/19/22)
After having 3 scheduled dates (and 4 introductions) since she became a client on 10/5/21, Ms. ******** sent the provided email requesting another date to be set up for the weekend of November 20th, 2021. Ms. ******** had already attended two dates so far that month in November of 2021. We consider all our actively dating clients’ for matches each day. For *** ********, her next introduction was given in line with our expectation timeline and was scheduled for 12/3. Ms. ******** attended this date and provided positive feedback. Again, just because Ms. ******** requested a 3rd date for the month to be coordinated on a specific weekend, does not mean that it was possible to select and schedule a date for her on that exact weekend.
We’re unsure why there is continued confusion regarding the dues payments Ms. ******** is referencing, but as discussed with her in the beginning of this year and in our previous response, that issue was resolved and she has paid her monthly payments on schedule and according to her contract. There is no outstanding error in her charges, nor any base for a refund of any kind. *** ********s claims that “Eventually I ended up authorizing it but it is not how I arranged payment initially, I prepaid and did not authorize monthly charges. “ is factually incorrect. Ms. ******** did indeed authorize monthly charges to be automatically withdrawn from her payment method on file by signing her agreement, as her signed agreement from 10/5/21 states:
“Monthly Membership Dues ("Dues"): $98/month. Dues are payable in advance on the first of each month that this membership remains in effect. IJL reserves the right to determine the amount and terms of payment of Membership Dues. Client's obligation to pay Monthly Membership Dues is not dependent upon the number of Introductions presented. Client authorizes IJL to automatically and without notice charge the designated credit/debit card or ACH draft used for the Membership Enrollment Fee, unless an alternate form of payment is provided to IJL by Client. By providing alternate form of payment, Client is authorizing IJL to automatically and without notice charge that credit/debit card or ACH draft for Monthly Membership Dues.”
Nevertheless, the conversation with her Client Advisor earlier this year went over this payment structure again in detail, and additional verbal approval was given by Ms. ******** at that time.
In conclusion, Ms. ******** was provided with 9 introductions during her 4.5 months of active dating time – double what her signed agreement states. Ms. ******** scheduled 8 dates and chose to cancel two of them on her own accord. Out of the 6 dates Ms. ******** attended, she shared that she exchanged information with 4 of these men, and even shared that she saw multiple men for subsequent dates. We provided Ms. ******** with double the average of introductions her signed agreement states, including 3 introductions in the month of November 2021 which Ms. ******** is choosing to use as an example of us being “non-responsive” – triple the number of introductions stated in her agreement. No refund of any kind will be considered, but we wish Ms. ******** the best.Initial Complaint

I contacted "It's Just Lunch" after my boyfriend and I broke up last August, about 13 months ago. I had heard their commercials on the radio and visited the website filled with heterosexual testimonials, so I initially contacted the company to inquire IF they serviced gay men. The company confirmed they do provide service to gays (even though there is no representation of anything but male/female coupled on their site. Within the first few communiques with ****** (email and call), I knew the match-making service was not right for me. "It's Just Lunch" was so aggressive with contacting me to sell its service I shortly, and multiple times, had to tell ****** DO NOT CONTACT ME, I WILL CONTACT YOU IF I EVER DECIDE TO USE YOUR SERVICE. Now, one year later, I get a random phone call from ****** form IJL last week. She called my phone, asked to speak to me, then identified herself and I immediately hung up. She then sent me a text. In her messages ****** made me feel like being single was not a good choice for my life. Her text rhetoric was bullying, insistent, unsolicited and seemed like a joke. It felt as though she was bored and was texting attempting to start a fight. All this harassment from this woman at IJL over the course of a year. I haven't paid her one dime and she's been hounding and harassing me. For what? I left a negative google review and her response was to wish me well. Who is this ****** to insert herself so rudely into my life and then decide she has to have the last word on my dating life. I think It's Just Lunch doesn't help gay clients at all. I think they harass gay people. They harassed this gay person. I was singled out and targeting be laughed at and triggered by ****** from It's Just Lunch. I ended it telling her if I ever get one more email, phone call, text or google comment I would contact the police. I suspect, if ****** knows it was I who filed this, she'll retaliate further.Business Response

IJL has found success being in business for over 30 years - our many happy clients in happy relationships, even in verified reviews on this page, make this very clear. You had spoken with two different matchmakers on our team since August of 2021 when your originally contacted us for more information. While our records of the contact between you and members of our team vastly differ from what you've shared here, we apologize for any unwanted communication. You have been removed from our lists and will not be contacted further. We truly wish you all the best in your dating endeavors.Customer Answer
