1 starRUN!!I am on hold, I have been on hold for 41 minutes, was just transferred to a voicemail box and the message said "I am on the other line. press "O" to be transferred" then the voicemail thing said "the Operator didn't have a voicemail box set up on the system" and "please enter the ten digit phone number of the party you are trying to reach".My Mother died last year, in the 1990's she tried to get survivor benefits paid to her when my dad died in 1997. Mom had such a hard time filing her claim she wanted to close all of her accounts with these "people".She left an account with a minimal balance, because they make it VERY DIFFICULT to close your account.I have dealt with all of the financial companies and insurance companies, all have paid off, except these "people".If you hate your heirs and want to frustrate the h*** out of them after your dead, this is the place to do business.IF YOU LOVE YOUR HEIRS PUT YOUR MONEY ANTWHERE BUT HERE!Review fromJeremy G

2 starsI would not recommend going to Ameriprise. They misrepresent their fees, and push conservative investments so they don't impact the fees they collect from you. I brought up the performance numerous times and they presented me with a visual on how not having the best returns can be good in the long run in 3 separate meetings. Overall they will push getting into actively managed funds so they can collect more in fees. I was with them for 5 years during some pretty good markets with the exception of 1 down year, and they were well below (4-6%) the major indexes. During my time when I initially started I was 100% on track for retirement, and despite above average returns in the market and saving more then I ever had it seemed to continue to go backward and their advice is save more and do nothing to address the fact they put me in funds that do not perform compared to the major indexes. I do not have a small, nor extremely large portfolio but I would say it is definitely in the top 20 percentile. It was on me that I stayed to long, but I wanted to give the strategy some time and not just bolt to quickly. Also on numerous meetings I asked them to provide some of the literature they showed in our semi annual planning meetings and they said they would and I had to keep asking and I eventually just gave up. Numerous times I asked for things and would not get it until a month, to a month and a half later after following up with them. My advice to anyone is invest in index funds, and avoid paying a lot for advice that is essentially them rebalancing your portfolio once a quarter. I can do math and enter a few trades for the large amount they were charging. Overall I was just a number and revenue source for them. 1 star feels a little harsh, but I do not think they deliver on the value proposition that they claim. I want my money to work for me and I don't want to constantly hear you need to save more when I already max out my 401k every year.Review fromthomas d

Totally incompetent. My girl friend lost almost $250,000 through them. They speak a great game but when it comes down to it, they're only in it for themselves. I like the TV commercials where they say "Ameriprise has a 4.9 rating out of 5.0". Another lie. I'm so sorry I recommended them to her.Ameriprise Financial

1 starFor 20 years I was with Ameriprise advisor *********** M through North Peak Wealth Advisors in ************. When I complained to him being 45 minutes late for our call he abruptly told me to call 1800fidelity and find some one else then ended the call. Thanks ***** M, what a guy! Twenty years of loyalty apparently means nothing to this guy.Review fromMILES M

5 starsI'd like to send kudos for the administrator, ********* ****** (see her location and phone below), for my financial manager, *** ******** in **********, **. She does a wonderful job and, given my career experience with customer service and support, she is definitely 10 out of 10 for the quality of her service. The reason I'm posting on the BBB site is two-fold: she intercepts everything that goes to ***, so I can't advise him without her knowing, and I want the executives in your organization to know about an outstanding member. Kudos to *********!********* M. ****** ************** Manager Ameriprise Financial Services, LLC ********************************************************************************************************* Office: ************Review fromDave S

1 starScrewed up my RMD when I spent 45 minutes on the phone instructing then and verifying all the amounts and net check. Still waiting on 2 out of 3 RMDs 3 weeks later. They like to blame the US mail. I even said you could ACH to my bank account. Fees are high and returns are low. Go elsewhere.Review fromRobert R

1 starWorst company I ever dealt with. I opened an account for a promotion to get additional $500. After they received my money I was informed that my money was not received until after Aug. 30th deadline when in fact my account was all set up and I mailed them check on Aug. 22nd. Then their story changed to my account was missing paperwork (not true as I did ALL the paperwork0 ). Then story changed again that they received the funds without an account # on check and couldn't figure out where to post money. Then all of a sudden themoney posted to my account on Sept. 3, just after deadline. I spoke with them and challenged on all accounts. They said the "higher **** would review and decide on an exception so I could qualify. Exception was rejected (no surprise). I did get my investment back with nothing more than a "sorry"!!!! This company is a joke. There are so many options out there so my strong advice is stay away and save yourself a ton of aggravation. "Shame on you" Ameriprise. You lost a possible long term customer over $500!! Based on the cost of acquiring a new customer your decision makers are MORONS!!Date of experience: September 16, 2024Review fromCody R

1 starThey're good at losing your money due to fees but won't tell you this up front. Thank goodness I regularly check my account. Their quarterly fees are twice as much as the annual return stated. What a joke. I've pulled all my assets from Ameriprise. Stay away from them, they're crooks who are happy to take your money and then drain it through fees. Open an ************* Account instead.Review fromLauren J

1 starThey dont have enough trained people. I am sitting on hold as I type this. So far, 1:19 min to get a problem resolved. In their defense, 2 people have picked up, but again placed me on hold. I have been trying to - unsuccessfully - move money out of Ameriprise and move it to another institution since May. It's July 25th. They are truly the WORSE financial company that I have ever encountered.Review fromCarollynn C

1 starThis company should be ashamed of themselves for their gross mismanagement practices. My siblings and I have been trying to get a death claim processed after the passing of our grandmother. We have been repeated directed to supply the same paperwork and receive letters stating that all information has not been provided so they cannot process the claim. Every time we call to get clarity, we get different answers. It is beyond getting the runaround. We believe it is intentional so that they do not have to pay out the claim. I would never do business with them ever and tell everyone I know the same. When I mentioned the terrible situation to my neighbor, she explained that she had a similar problem with a policy her father had with them and they never received a *****. I believe this is a pattern and that many have had similar experiences. They should not be allowed to continue to operate. If I could rate them a zero, I would. I am also considering taking legal action.
