In September 2022, I hired TMH concrete construction to pour a driveway extension, a patio, and retaining wall in my backyard. I paid a deposit of $11,700. About 6 weeks later, the demo was the only thing that had been completed, and the business owner stopped showing up to do the work, informed me that he was addicted to drugs and that he needed the rest of the original quoted amount to finish the job. His crew stopped showing up because he had not paid them. I fired him for this. (There was no contract) He left a bunch of tools and equipment in my yard, and stated that he would refund $5,900 of the deposit for the work completed. He has not refunded any money, and not retrieved his equipment. He did, however, accuse me of stealing his tools and equipment. I sent a certified letter to the business (twice) describing the retrieval of his equipment (with a police escort) and repayment of the agreed upon remainder of the deposit ($5,900). He refused to sign for the certified letter both times. I would like to see (at the very least) some kind of red flag, or disclaimer, or warning attached to his business license so that he is not able to do this to anyone else in the future. I dont know if this is something that the BBB is familiar with, but any assistance is appreciated.
