I applied for the UMB Simply Rewards credit card because of its high rating. My credit score is near perfect, I have 3 credit cards that I use regularly and pay off in full each month. They rejected my application due to excessive revolving credit accounts. I emailed their EVP Shannon J****** asking for more detail. She handed it off to manager of underwriting and he called me. He could not give me any more specifics or a definition of "excessive". Come on, you're not Chase or Citibank or Wells Fargo. At this point, I don't even want to deal with them anymore. If you want to reject an application, then ok, but at the very least be much more specific and explain it more clearly.

My company switched from UMB to another HSA carrier, and I received a notice that I still had $883 left in my UMB account to use for my HSA. The first representative told me that I could just order a new card and use the rest of the funds through UMB before using my new HSA account. In order to do that, I had to answer multiple choice questions about myself. One of the questions was how tall I was on my driver's license. The options presented were not correct - I am 5'4" and the closest option was 5'3". I answered every other question correctly but because of that I could not continue and order a card. The rep told me to call back the next day and I probably wouldn't have to go through all of that again and would likely just get a code texted to my phone instead. I waited a week until I called, and the same thing happened. They said my cell phone number "had not been in their system long enough" to warrant a code (I don't even know what that means). So now this rep went through a bunch of questions with me. The first was my height on my driver's license. I immediately stopped her and told her about what happened last time. She said that was a 'glitch' that happened last week and they have since corrected their incorrect answers, so now my height should be one of the correct responses, which it was. After being asked places of employment, education, my eye color, height, etc, I was asked about a car that I owned. They literally were dating back to 2008 and 2010 models of cars. I had a Highlander and a Lexus RX, but I cannot remember what years they were when I purchased them - it's 2024!! And they were used. These cars were in the options provided, so I chose them. Apparently that was wrong and I should have selected none of the above. The last option for a new card was to mail a copy of my SSC and driver's license to them at which point I thought this was a scam b/c no one asks for you to mail that sensitive information in 2024.

They constantly block your debit card or put your account on hold. This for no reason, though the fraud department says there's a reason (but it's only because they can). My personal expereince. I had my debit card constantly blocked for suspicious activity, which it wasn't It was just normal transactions that they deemed suspicious. Finally, I had to cancel my debit card. But then they never sent me a replacement debit card (but they claim I have one on file, but I ever received it). Basically, I haven't had a debit card for months, though I've tried to get a card. Recently, they put a hold on a company check (it was for me to purchase business related supplies). The fraud department refused to release the check for so long that the company finally cancelled it and I lost the job opportunity. Right now, there is a hold on my account for no reason. They cancelled the check but because of the hold on my account I can't access my money, unless I drive several hours and physically go into the bank. So now I have money I can't access. It feels like they enjoy messing with people and keeping them from their money. Worst banking institution ever.

My company without any notification rolled our health savings account funds from our previous provider to UMB bank, presumably to save money. UMB bank's site is notoriously difficult to log into. I just had a new problem with it for like the every-ith time and the women told me that going to the UMB site and selecting to sign into my HSA account took me to the wrong website. I have to go to a different UMB HSA website. Sounds like a scam, right? Well, it is. My previous HSA account providers have taken $0 in fees. UMB takes fees every single month, plus there are other fees on my account for reasons they can't identify, and - most disturbingly - a recurring fee for receiving my account statement on paper. Not only did I never request an account statement on paper, but the first time I saw this phony fee, I immediately logged in (well, my attempt to log in was immediate, in reality it took quite some time) and selected to receive electronic communications only. Several months later, I noticed I was still receiving paper statements and still being charged for them. Once again, I updated my setting with UMB so I would not receive paper. Once again, they illegally ignored my selection and continued to send paper and charge me for it. What an awful and dishonest company. I hate that my company chose them as our provider. It makes me feel our benefits are super low-grade. Amusingly, the only reason I'm thinking of this today is that I'm trying to move my money OUT of this account for like the 5th time. I don't want to do business with this company, but I have little time in the day to weave through their bureaucracy. I already updated my benefits so I will not be using an HSA at all anymore - sure, healthcare savings are nice, but so is working with a company you trust. I'll be transferring my funds to Fidelity. I'm hoping Fidelity can handle it without me having to communicate or log in at UMB ever again. BBB: Have them return the money they stole from me.

Shouldn't even rate a single star. Worst payment processing. Even worse auto pay verification & submission process. Account website is an utter joke.

Warning, banked w/ UMB for 30+ years. I got scammed in my checking account and immediately went to the local branch, explained what happened...they TOLD me not to worry. 7 days later their CORPORATE OFFICE accused ME of trying to commit fraud on them!! I was the victim, not them. They closed my account without telling me, and then told me to take my business elsewhere. I'm a single old 64 year old grandma. Pathetic customer service. They get 1 star because the local branch did try to help me....their CORPORATE office is a completely different story. CONSUMER WARNING: BANK WITH UMB AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

I would give UMB zero stars if I could. Horrible credit card. I had impeccable credit and never paid late in my life. Unfortunately, in July and August of last year, I was a victim of identity theft and bank fraud. My bank assets were frozen immediately to prevent further revenue loss in my bank account and for an investigation. I notified UMB via phone and in writing (with tracked receipt) of the situation and the need to make payment arrangements, as well as a late payment to my UMB credit card due to my bank account and my money being frozen by my credit union for an investigation. However, UMB still marked me late on my credit report, dropping my credit score immensely. I have contacted UMB numerous times to dispute this and request the removal of this marking, and they refuse to do so.

I have an HSA which my previous company has used UMB. I've elected to invest proceeds and i haven't touched the account. Now they are saying in order to get access i need to apply for new cards, then go out and spend money on those cards before i'm allowed to access my accounts. how is it possible to make people spend money on their savings accounts before they have access to them? would encourage any company to not use their services. i've been on the line for over 45 minutes waiting to speak to someone to get this new card (much less the week or two it will take to mail a card) before i can access my own account.

I was transfered to 4 DIFFERENT customer service departments, all of which who said "not my problem" and when I got to the last guy, I couldn't understand 75% of what he said, except that he wouldn't help me if I didn't sit through some time share style presentation of an offer. I said I was not interested and had spent an hour trying to get help and he said he wouldn't help me if I didn't listen to his offer. So we have a bank holding money hostage and they refuse to provide assistance unless I sit through a sales pitch. I am SURE this is not legal.
