    Pattern of Complaint:

    According to BBB files, the Kansas City Star developed a pattern of complaint concerning newspaper delivery in early 2015. The BBB received complaints that Star subscribers were not receiving physical copies of the newspaper. The Star is currently working to reduce the number of dissatisfied customers. In January 2016, the Kansas City Star submitted a plan to the BBB outlining the steps they have taken and the steps they will soon take that will help eliminate the pattern of complaint.

    They have hired an outside consultant to evaluate and improve distribution service.

    The Star has invested in improving carrier recruitment efforts and added additional staff to the customer service department.

    They added customer service processes that will reduce recurring delivery issues.

    In addition, the Kansas City Star will continue to fine-tune customer service and distribution service with coaching, hiring, and management in an effort to more thoroughly satisfy subscribers.

      The Kansas City Star newspaper is the issue. When we renewed the subscription we indicated this was for a 97 year old who did not want or was able to use the internet. We were told there was no option to discount the premium as the online edition was mandatory. I don't actually remember exact amount but around $100 a year. We had to pay $565 for the one year renewal. TOTALLY unfair to require something not wanted and which cost the newspaper $0 to provide. On April 8 the delivery person indicated the paper delivery was no longer available. When I called about a refund I was told they have a NO REFUND policy. I never saw this anywhere and cannot believe this is acceptable. The agent I spoke with assured me they now have a carrier in the area and the paper could be delivered. MY COMPLAINT is the following. 1. Charging for a service that is not needed or available for the customer 2. NOT refunding in the event of cancellation. At 97 one could expect a life event could cause a need for cancellation. That being as it may, a refund should be available to everyone wanting to cancel When I contacted the paper and cancelled, I expected a refund of the remaining 4 months subscription

      On 9/18/23, the Kansas City Star automatically billed me $99.99 for a subscription I didn't even know I had. On that same day I emailed them my cancellation request for which I received a confirmation. After 3 more requests, the last threatening legal action, I received notice of my refund on 1/11/24, in the amount of $77.40. They delayed paying me my refund for almost 4 months until I threatened to sue and then charged me for having their subscription during that time! I can't wait until this worthless rag is finally bankrupt and gone.

This is being reviewed for training purposes a request has been sent to finance to process a refund back to you for $22.59 when added to the previous refund of $77.40 your full refund will be complete.
