I recently had a 14 x 14 concrete slab poured attached to an existing patio. The concrete guys got there early and proceeded to set up. When I went to check out their progress, they were waiting on the concrete truck.There was no preparation whatsoever on the ground. I asked if they were going to pour concrete right on my grass?! He stated that he used fiber in his concrete and it was unnecessary to remove the grass. I know nothing about concrete but I knew I'd never seen it poured without some preparation. The slab was poured directly on my grass. I asked some other contractors about it. They said never pour concrete directly on grass.its industry standard to prepare by removing topsoil and grass. Chunks of concrete slipped out from under the boards they used for frames on one side leaving it looking unfinished. I contacted the concrete guy and stated my concerns.He stood by his decision to leave the vegetation and said they do it different everywhere you go. They opt not to remove the grass. A few days later, it rained. There was a rather large puddle in the middle of the slab. Its not level. The sun came out and it remained for hours later. I again contacted him via text with a picture, and he called me. He yelled and cussed at me for 20 minutes.He kept yelling that he was a professional with 30 years experience and whoever I talked to didnt have experience.he finished by shouting that I quit contacting him. Now its rained again and I have a large puddle in my new patio addition. None on my 70 year old existing patio. My intent was to put a gazebo over it but have been warned by a builder that it may not hold it because of improper installation. My lessoned has been learned. I should have done a lot of research on pouring concrete and asked everything they did be put in a contract and followed through.
